Boneparte elected to remain in the gardens in order to look after Spinfer before mailing his letter. He had time after all. He didn't mind it. His life would hopefully take a turn for the better in the next few months...and it was all the meerkat could really hope for at this point.
City Hall was still bustling with preparations. The conspirators were discussing plans, going over schedules and possible scenarios, and generally ensuring that they would be ready for the uprising when it did occur. The door to the offices that Sciurus had been in before opened, revealing the other red squirrel, Camille, on the other side.
"Ah good! S-s-sciurus! You're back! I was just about to step outside for a s-s-s-s-sandwich wh-wh-when you arrived. O-o-o-Otto's ben waiting for you!" he moved aside, sweeping his paw into the interior in order to show where Otto was still standing on the other side of the table with the maps on it. Camille had become something of a personal aid to Otto, and the otter was more than glad to have him at as his side.

Sciurus' blue eyes lit up when he saw who it was who was speaking to him.
"Camille, you old bushtail!," the hypnotist exclaimed, embracing his fellow red squirrel, delighted to see him again. "Don't think I've seen you in quite a while. How have you been keeping? I'm sure Otto won't mind if I talk with you for a few moments. He's a reasonable creature, I find otters always are!"
At the Cordelier's Club, Sciurus, who was a few years younger than Camille, had often made speeches written by the older squirrel, who had quite a stammer. His mind flashed back to his meeting with Spinfer earlier that day, and an idea popped into his head. Perhaps he would discuss it with his friend at some point.

Camille was a bit surprised by his friend's happiness in seeing him, but he was equally just as happy it seemed. "W-w-well I've been good. Th-th-there's a warrant for both my arrest and Otto's out now b-b-b-but we're not worried. We'll make our move before then...and...and...and bring about a more favorable g-g-g-government anyways." the red squirrel stammered in a rather self-assured way. "O-o-otto's thinking about going underground for a bit until the movement, but I-I-I'll just stay at the Cordeliers Club and keep writing until we move. The populace is in favor of us anyways."
Otto saw Sciurus re-enter, but he didn't mind if Sciurus wanted to talk with Camille first. It made no difference to him since it was good that Sciurus was making friends and becoming entrenched within their group. It would only help solidify him in their movement against the King, which Otto predicted would be occurring in only a few weeks time. The public was day by day growing more incensed with Augustine, making their ranks grow with those who wanted to see him deposed.
"I-I-I have to s-s-s-say though, I'm really getting excited for this! S-s-s-s-seems Rosferia m-m-may be a true republic v-v-v-very soon!" the red squirrel was exclaiming excitedly. It was something not just he was looking forward to, but a great majority of the populace all throughout the nation. Cosnair in particular was showing strong support for the overthrow of Augustine and the creation of a republic, and it was why all the beasts here were working so hard to meet that end. It had made some, including Otto and Camille, "criminals" by law, but the laws could be changed, and Otto and Camille knew that if the majority saw what they were doing as right, it couldn't be a true crime except to those they'd be removing from power, and of course those at the top would brand them "outlaws" and "criminals" who should be brought to justice.
It seemed not to worry the two of them though, as Otto continued at his work at the map and Camille smiled over at Sciurus as he listened to his companion's next words.

"Ah, of course, I knew that the pair of you'd be targeted by the so-called authorities sooner or later. By my whiskers, I cannot think of a surer sign of desperation than what I have just been told. They cannot hide the cracks any longer," Sciurus commented.
"You will be rather pleased to hear that I am soon going to making an announcement regarding a certain thing which could very well prove to be beneificial to us. Keep your ears to the ground, Cam," the hypnotist said in a low voice.
"I'll go into more detail about it later on, but now I must speak to Otto. I'm afraid our talk cannot wait any longer. Until later then, friend."
Sciurus strode over to his mustelid companion, a contented smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

Camille nodded. He didn't mind the breaking off of their conversation. He had heard from Otto that the otter had been pushing Sciurus for a certain end, and he was coming to suspect exactly what that end was. It would be beneficial in the rodent's eyes.
He watched him move over to Otto, who broke out into a smile now upon seeing the red furred squirrel. "Ah yes....there you are! Welcome back! Welcome back! What have you learned? Is Spinfer willing to commit himself to our cause? What news of the Royal Family?" were the otter's questions to Sciurus.
"I uh....I've decided to close the parlor Sciurus." Otto said in a much lower voice now. "Can't be too active now that I'm wanted for treason and all. It's unfortunate that the Ministry of Justice is still run by the King's faction. Hoping to change that soon though. Then we can either reopen her up or simply sell her off and work on this new government I'm sure we'll be bringing about!" his voice was just above a whisper, and he clapped the squirrel on the back as he finished.

There was sadness evident in Sciurus' tired blue eyes as he heard Otto deliver his news. The squirrel had known that this would be inevitable, but it still came as a major shock to him. He took a seat alongside Otto as his footpaws were killing him.
"That's a shame...," were his only words on that matter. However, the squirrel seemed to brighten up immediately he spoke his next sentence.
"Nuts and acorns, somebeast is in a hurry today!," he chuckled. "Perhaps it would be better if I took your questions one at a time, as I am more than a little tired after all that's gone on today. All this can be terribly taxing on a creature.
"As for what you have asked me, well, for starters: The king's condition as of late, Spinfer puts down to... what was that phrase he used? Ah yes, a paralysis of the mind. He has been awfully indecisive of late, as you know. He has been urged to escape the capital by those close to him. However, he is unwilling to make a move to escape. Strange as it may sound to you, and it did to me at first, as I just couldn't reconcile what I was hearing with what I had seen of the creature, but Augustine is putting his family first in this instance. You know that the attempt failed last year, and this time around, the King fears more for the lives of his family than he does his own, so is staying put lest he should be caught trying to escape. As he would no doubt have to bring his family with him, every single creature who attempted the escape would be punished.
"He sees himself as doomed, would you believe. Spinfer called it being fatalistic; I call it being realistic. He knows that his time has come, but is being his usual stubborn self."

Otto immediately picked up the significance in the squirrel's words. "Yes of course....I can see that now. He's worried for the safety of his family, but feels trapped and doesn't want to risk them on the move like he did last year. So he becomes paralyzed with indecision. On top of that, instead of just avoiding all of this and abdicating his throne...he continues to cling to it like some sullen, lost dibbun. If only he'd be sensible....." the otter trailed off, his tail swishing in an agitated manner.
"Ack....at this rate I'm now a 'criminal' according to the law. But I care not. They can call me what they like. History will judge me, not them. If we succeed.....then I am certain my name will no longer be that of a criminal. All I want is to reform this country. Give us a second chance on our paws and to somehow turn back the invaders. If we can accomplish all of these things.....then we shall be judged by history. Wouldn't it be great.....wouldn't it be grand after all if we could extend our ideals to those of other nations as well, and help them shake off the yoke of monarchy?" the blue furred otter went on. His coat seemed to be glistening with a new sheen to it, as if someone beast or circumstance had breathed new life into his very soul.
"I promise to not go down in the history books as some beasts who had a dream but did not achieve it. We WILL succeed....for if Augustine persists and refuses to relinquish his throne....then we shall take it from him...and deliver it up into the paws of the populace!" he said, his voice very low, very commanding, and very leader-like in a way. Yes....he would speak to Cutter...they would formulate plans....and then would move to strike their blow.
"Well glad you've found this information out. I had been wondering things....all the more reason to move promptly, just in case Augustine DOES decide to stiffen his backbone and try and make an attempt to leave us. I would not want him reigning in exile after all. Better to deliver him into our paws where he'd be more useful as a bargaining chip against Kostritz and especially Gradvar. My home nation...." he sighed, closing his eyes as memories of that place flooded into his brain. No...he would never go back there....ever.
"Thank you." he said at last, opening his eyes to look down at the squirrel.

Sciurus had listened intently to Otto as he had spoken. The determination in his voice sent shivers up the squirrel's spine. He had never seen a creature want something more desperately than Otto wanted true freedom for Rosferia. Ah, yes, he did indeed raise a good point, he thought. To extend these revoluationary ideas to other nations? Why, Sciurus himself wanted to do this very thing, he was just unsure as to how to go about it. The squirrel soon moved on to his next question.
"Aye, we shall indeed, friend. By hook or by crook, Rosferia will soon belong to the populace. One creature who is waiting almost as anxiously as you are for Sunday to arrive - that's when we take City Hall, right? - is our inside beast, Spinfer. You will be glad to know that here is one stoat who is now fully committed to our cause. He had doubts, you understand. Such doubts. However, I helped to put him at ease so that he could think clearly. My, my, such a stressed creature I have never seen! You could tell from his eyes that he was just begging for the opportunity to become a free creature. Thanks to my help," Sciurus told the otter, patting his trusty pocket watch, "he now has his mind made up. You can count on him to do his job, never fear."

"Good, I'll keep in touch with him then through secondary sources. No need to give my paw away so soon after all. We still have some time. I'm very glad to hear about his commitment to our cause. Having him on the inside will help us immeasurably when the time for our strike arrives. As for our intended move against this building.....we have set a tentative date for the 9th or 10th, but no later." the otter explained.
Sighing now, he looked down at the charts. "We're waiting to see what new defensive measures the King will implement for palace security. There IS a chance he could repel us after all...but if we get enough beasts we'll win eventually. We need to get weapons though...no way we'll be marching this time without armaments, and thus taking the City Arsenal is necessary."
He looked down at Sciurus. "Anything else to report, or is that it then my friend?" the otter asked, taking a bored look to his face. He wasn't worried....sure he was tense...excited even, but it was still a ways off. Their lives would pick up from here on out....until the morning when they made their move. Then it would all be released....it was a day Otto was looking forward to.

"Oh, of course, I don't intend to leave here without a weapon in my paws, friend, you rest assured of that," Sciurus told the otter.
Anything else to report? Why, yes there was. A couple of things, actually, but one of them could wait. "After I had finished the induction, allowing Spinfer to rest for a while, I turned around and got the shock of my life. So focused had I been on my work, I had not at all noticed that a certain meerkat had also been in the gardens. Never fear, Otto, he wasn't eavesdropping - in fact, I'd say he has a fairly good idea of what will soon happen. Do you know of whom I speak? It was, of course, Boneparte Lantzer, gone to get clearance for his promotion to Captain by our King."
Sciurus spoke that last word in a voice positively dripping with scorn. His attitude towards Augustine had changed considerably in the space of a few short weeks.
"I talked with him, and mentioned that we may stand a chance of freeing Personza if we are successful in dethroning Augustine. I said that I was going to do all I can to bring it about. You know as well as I do that once we are a true democracy, we should have no need for colonies. What do you think, friend. Are you in agreement with my plan?"
