"Actually yes...I was hoping to take you along....if you don't mind walking in the snow that is." He said, smiling slightly now as he watched his family from the room. Soon enough, Boneparte's mother entered, having finally gotten Jerome to calm down.
"Boneparte! You're back at long last!" she exclaimed, running over to him and wrapping her arms about him. Boneparte had a rather uneasy relationship with is mother. He respected her more than he loved her, as she had brought him up harshly and used to smack him around for misbehaving. He just....couldn't conjure up enough feelings of love for her anymore. She was devoutly religious, and he wasn't. She was very strict, and he was independent minded. It was a clash of personalities that had made him uneasy around females ever since.
He was definitely attracted to the opposite sex of course, it was just that he felt awkward around them thanks to the way his mother had raised him. A female had always been the dominant one in his life, and it left him mistrusting of most of the female gender. Someone was always out to get him in his mind, so he had to take precautions and guard himself. It was partly why he had been so careful around Val before.
"Yes mother....good to see you too." he said as warmly as he could manage, even if it was partly false. "I'll be back shortly though. Just dropping in to see how everyone was doing. I need to get down to the docks and greet the incoming commanders. Mustn't be rude to the Rosferians after all." he said, half jokingly.
As his mother began to say more Boneparte gently led Val towards the door, nodding and pretending to listen to this mother. "Let's get outside shall we? We can hang out with my family later on if you want." Opening the door, he breathed a sigh of relief when it closed behind him. "Phew....sorry about that. It gets a little stifling at times. My family are very diverse and different minded when it comes down to things. It must be difficult being around so many new beasts." he began crunch his way over the snow, down to the docks. "Tell me though Val, now that we're alone. What do you think of them? Have you been happy here? How do you like Personza so far? Much different from Rosferia?" He wasn't trying to be rude with all these questions, but he had felt so out of place ever since coming back here, and he wanted to get her personal thoughts on things as well.

~Valeata
Val's smile was a mile wide when he stated that he wished to take her along. In truth she longed to spend as much time as possible with the male. Who knew when they'd have to part? Those would be very sad days for Val. Her heart ached just to think about it. She wondered if his heart would ache just as bad when he had to be away from her. Perhaps this time together would give them time to talk, even if they were crunching through the snow. Val didn't mind. Not at all. "No. I don't mind walking in the snow at all. It's rather lovely."
No sooner did Val have the approving sentence out, about going along with him, Bone's mother entered the room. She really didn't even acknowledge her at all. This bothered Val a little but not to the point of allowing it to hurt her in any manner. She could sense the emotionless way that he spoke to his mother. Part of Val felt uncomfortable, especially so when Bone was ushering her to the door while she was still talking.
Val scratched her head puzzlingly. She wanted to ask him about the distance that seemed to exist between him and his mother but she really didn't have time to. Questions began to be hurled in her direction as he began to walk. "No need to apologize Boneparte. And yes I've enjoyed your family and yes I like being here. I don't mind being anywhere as long as I'm with you." Val took a few leaping steps to keep up with him. "And yes. Things are a bit different here but as I said I don't mind." Val grabbed his arm to slow him down and also to keep up with him.
The femme wondered about all of the questions at once. He seemed a bit overwhelmed with things here. Val also wondered if there was something that she could do to help. She tugged on his arm a bit more so that perhaps he would look at her. "Are you all right Boneparte? I can sense your uneasiness. Is it me staying at your home? Because if it is I can stay in a hotel or something. Perhaps in a place where I can do dishes to pay for the room rental? I don't mind." Yes indeed she was a rather very easy going female. She was nothing any other female that he's had in his life before.

His ears perked up at this and he was quick to dissuade her from thinking that. "No! Oh no...it's not....you at all." He said, shaking his head fiercely as he walked, the snow drifts crunching under his boots. "No I just have a lot on my mind. Believe...me....a LOT on my mind." he emphasized.
"First off....well my mother always makes me uneasy. I have respect for her but...little to no love unfortunately. She was a high pawed mother growing up.....always smacked me around if I misbehaved or didn't follow the rules. I don't....well she's religious as well, and I don't buy into any of that. Very strict, very overbearing....I can't really say much positive about my experience growing up." he said, frowning and shrugging his shoulders now.
"If you're surprised to hear that about my mother don't be. A lot of Personzan females are like that. Very religious, very strict, and well always willing to smack their kits if they don't obey." he said, chuckling lightly now. "Don't worry though.....I took almost none of her habits with me. As for what else is on my mind well....let's see."
He sighed now, rounding the corner so that the ships once again came into sight. "I've been having...doubts about leaving Rosferia. Ever since I've come back here well I've found out that Joseph has lost his job to my rival, and that my own mentor has been treating me very coldly as of late. I just....I don't know what's going on between us anymore. He's like a different person now....and what's worse my rival apparently is directly working for him as his private aide or something. This worries me you might imagine. Something...just feels wrong about me coming here. Maybe I should have stayed back in Rosferia with you...and never should have come here. What if it was a mistake? Things just feel...wrong now you see. It's my home but it feels....wrong somehow."
The meerkat's feelings were well founded. Someone was in fact plotting against his life, but he had no way of knowing that. "I'm sorry if I seem distracted or out of sorts. Now you know why." the jack said with a twinge of regret at her having to see him like this.

~Valeata It was good to know that he wasn't stressed out about anything when it came to Val. A sigh of relief passed through her lips as they continued onward and the conversation did indeed continue....
The femme was indeed surprised to hear about how Bone felt about his mother. It was odd that a son should feel anything but love for the one who brought him into the world. But Val would never berate him for feeling as such. Now that she knew that his mother was very heavy-pawed with him she could indeed understand why he felt this was. Val was glad though that he wouldn't be like her. She would never allow her kits to be smacked around for unnecessary things. "Well I'm sad to hear about your relationship with your mother isn't the best. I can't imagine that you would ever hit our kit and so I don't think that you picked up much from her. I'm glad of that." Viv smiled up at him.
And then Bone went on to explain why else he seemed so tense and stressed as of late. Truthfully Val was glad to hear that it wasn't her, though she was sure that she weighed on his mind as well. Val didn't have much advice as far as his work went. "Well I'm sure that things will work out Boneparte. These things take time and it's not like you'll have to be here forever. Right?" It wasn't really a question that needed to be answered but it was said more as food for thought.
As soon as they were able to stop Val turned to Bone, facing him as she took his paws in her own. "Let's just try and get through this. But I ask of you one thing. Please don't block me out. I am here for you to talk to anytime that you want. Your stress is my concern as well." Val cocked her head as if she were trying to get a better view of his face and his expressions. "Despite what has happened I'm still in love with you but our love can only grow if we are open with each other. I like that you talked to me like this today. I don't think that coming here was a total loss." Val moved forward and tip-pawed up for a soft kiss on the lips.

It unnerved Boneparte a bit to hear her say "our kit." They weren't even married yet though. As if he didn't have enough on his mind already. The chilly reception from his mentor was just the start of his troubles as it would turn out. Lukas Pascale had his own designs on Boneparte, and was even now plotting to eliminate the meerkat from the scene in order to cripple what he was beginning to see as his biggest opponent.
He kept his feelings inside at the moment however. Oh if only he could just drop everything and focus on Valeata. But there was so much swirling around him at present it was making things difficult to get fully focused. He had a job to do to support his family, and of course his family itself. And his rough relations with Pascale and of course the matter of his rival trying to ruin his life at every turn.
Be here forever? He certainly hoped not. Compared with Rosferia his home just seemed backward and small. His dream of attaining independence for Personza had long since evaporated. He couldn't see them as independent. They'd divide into factions, or be gobbled right back up again by Calgary or worse. Maybe some of the Barbary Pirates to the south would attack if Rosferia weren't protecting Personza. All in all Boneparte was now seeing Rosferia as vital to Personza's survival.
And then there was her final point. Being open with her. He was already feeling withdrawn again. Stopping to face her, he accepted her kiss, short though it was. She had to stand on tip paw to get to him, even though he himself wasn't all that tall. "Yes...open with you. Sorry....I'm just a bit off right now. I've just got a lot on my mind. I'll....try and be open with you, as open as I can." he said, trembling a bit as he realized that right now he was closed and keeping most of his thoughts inside about things. But perhaps...with a bit of help over the weeks....she could help with that.
He could see two meerkats getting off a boat from the transports. Rosferian troops were coming ashore as well, and they were a noisy bunch. They looked more like ill disciplined cutthroats and thieves rather than troops. Great....looks like they had been plucked from the dregs of society. The two meerkats though were rather high ranked. One was an Admiral, the other a General. The General was in fact a native of Personza, Raphael Casabianca. The other was second in command of Rosferia's Cobalt Squadron. For now though they were supervising the unloading of the troops and supplies. The General stayed behind, the Admiral began heading in their direction.
"I think we'd better go greet them. I....hope to be open with you like this from now on." he said, giving her a lopsided smile as he balanced his military hat on his head, covering his ears now.

~Val
Val knew that he had much on his mind right now and so did she really. She also knew that it would take time for them both to heal from the recent events. But what she was positive about was that she was still deeply in love with Boneparte and she doubted that this would ever change. Each time they were together she felt her feelings for him deepen, even if he seemed distant. His distance proved to her that he was a sensitive male and that was always a good thing in her eyes.
Soon he was eager to greet the new beasts. He put his hat on and gave her the cutest grin. Val simply giggled and then stepped forward. He wasn't going to get away from her that easily, new beasts or not. She needed to give him more then just a simple kiss on the cheek. Val stepped forward and adjusted his hat on his head and then held his face in her paws. "Hurry on and greet them. I'll be just behind you. But there's on thing...." Before she even realized it she presses her lips to his, giving him a deep and passion building kiss. Val even let out a small but very soft groan. It felt so good to be so close to the one that she loves with all of her heart.
After she released him she stood there for a moment. She seemed to be in shock but she also wanted to watch him, to see what he'd do. Of course he'd go to do his duty but there were subtle things that only a femme could pick up on. Val took a deep shuddered breath. The kiss felt better then she had thought. She thought that it would be great but it was even greater then great. It was fantastic. She hoped that he felt the same.

Boneparte could only stand there as he was kissed, reacting as any male would. He of course accepted the kiss and kissed her back. What else could he do? Much as he was distracted by things at the moment, Boneparte knew he was still in love with Val, even if it was hard for him to admit.
As she pulled back, Boneparte looked at her with just the smallest hints of a smile playing at his lips. "I see you're still making advances on me....maybe I should resist you more often." he said, that smile becoming more tangible now as he moved off down towards the docks. Those idiot Rosferians were singing and throwing snowballs and otherwise causing a great racket, and most of the townsbeasts looked down on them with disdain.
It took no military genius to see that these "soldiers" weren't soldiers but some sort of breed of cutthroat that had enlisted in the military, probably in the hope of plunder, glory, females, or a combination of all three. What a bunch of low lives....the meerkat thought bitterly as he watched them move into the town.
Turning to the dock again, he could see the impressive looking Admiral step off the skiff and meet his eye. "Ah, a fine welcome to Personza Admiral....." Boneparte trailed off, as he was unaware of this fellow's name. The meerkat in uniform doffed his cap and shoved it under his arm, offering his paw to Boneparte.
"Truguet. Laurent Truguet. Second in command of the Cobalt Squadron and head of this expedition. And you are?" Boneparte took his paw and shook it, already impressed with this gentlebeast.
"Lantzer. Boneparte Lantzer. Captain in the regular Rosferian Artillery and Lieutenant Colonel of the Personza volunteers. If you need a place to stay, I'd be happy to quarter you at my place Admiral. Your ships are rather fine looking....these troops though....they're a bit less than I was expecting." Truguet nodded at this.
"Aye, that they are. They're the lower classes of society that decided it would be fun to join up in the Rosferian military in order to obtain riches and loot. They've been nothing but trouble on the way down. Constantly fought with my sailors and almost incited outright fisticuffs from time to time. General Casabianca's trying to control them, but by and large they don't care. I almost dumped them into the sea on the way over here, the bastards."
Boneparte chewed his lip at this news. Not what he wanted to hear. Dregs of Rosferian society mixing with Personzans....that was a riot waiting to happen. If the Personzans didn't kill them then the Rosferians most certainly would begin stirring up trouble and make a nuisance of themselves, speaking of which.....
One of the passing soldiers, a mongoose, which was close enough to a meerkat that they looked similar, took note of Val as they marched into town. She was already getting several cat calls from the passing males, and this particular mongoose broke formation to check her out. Whistling, he gave her a wink. "What's a pretty lass like you doing out here in the cold? Rather not the atmosphere for one like you eh? Got a nice house you can put me up at? Or maybe even a bed?" he asked, chuckling a bit as he looked her over.
Casabianca was taking note of this, and was moving towards the situation to diffuse it before it got ugly. Boneparte was moving back towards Val as well with Admiral Truguet, and took note of what was going on as well. Not good....he broke into a run towards her, though was a good 50 yards or so away, it would take him a few moments to actually reach her.....

Oh for the love of the heavens! Kissing him felt so very good to Val. It warmed her from head to toe, no longer was she aware of the cold that surrounded them, save for the fact that her nose was cherry red from the nip of the low temperatures. Nothing could make her feel as good as this though. It was also good to know that he liked it as well. Val blushed deeply as he said what he did. Softly she chuckled and then he was off.
Val would follow him, though she wasn't as quick. She 'loved' to see him at work, though she knew that he wasn't entirely happy about the whole situation. The femme tried to look at this whole thing positively. Things wouldn't always be like this. Things would get better. Beasts always had to start at the bottom before they could rise to the top. That's just what they were doing, as a couple and as far as Bone's occupation.
The kat stopped to peer toward Bone. She wondered if she would be better off staying where she was, leaving military business to the military beasts. Her position came to a halt as she noted the new beasts marching toward town. They would be passing right by her but she decided to keep her eyes on her male, Boneparte. Even when a few started to whistle and call out to her her focus remained firm upon Bone.
Val shifted uncomfortably from one footpaw to the other. It wasn't so bad. She could ignore them for the most part, that was until one of them broke formation and approached her. He looked similar to her species but she was sure that he wasn't, not that he seemed to care. One female's bed was probably as good as the other, so it seemed. "What's a pretty lass like you doing out here in the cold? Rather not the atmosphere for one like you eh? Got a nice house you can put me up at? Or maybe even a bed?" It was then that Val's eyes met coolly with his. Her attention was totally taken off Boneparte, mostly because the male boldly advanced upon her.
The femme bit the inside of her cheek, trying to hold back her tongue, but she couldn't keep the words from coming as she pointed in his companions direction. "I wouldn't share my bed with you but I'm sure that one of your scanty soldier buddies would. Feel free to ask one of them." Val was completely facing him now. She was sure what she said would not sit well with the male but she wasn't without a few tricks up her sleeves.

Widening his eyes at this, the mongoose was in disbelief at first, but then snarled. "OK love, we'll see how well you do in some alley way. I can take you anywhere." He said, advancing on her. Just what was this yokel doing, standing up to him? He made the mistake of assuming Val was a Personzan, as most meerkats here were. After all, what else would a lone female be doing here if she didn't live here?
Hearing some running paws approaching fast from behind, the soldier spun about, his weapon up, ready to blast some stupid kat in the face for interfering, but stopped and suddenly realized his mistake as none other than General Casabianca himself strode up. Wearing a white uniform, the colors of the old regime, Casabianca was nevertheless an ardent republican and supported Augustine in no way, shape are form. "That's enough Private. I suggest you fall back into line."
"Yeah?"
"Yes." Casabianca growled, just as Boneparte crashed into the soldier and shoved him back.
"You stay back!"
"Filthy dog!" the mongoose said, eyes blazing now. "What do you think you're doing, pushing a Rosferian soldier around?" he demanded, not realizing that Boneparte was actually his superior officer. The meerkat quickly produced a badge showing his rank in the Rosferian military.
"That's CAPTAIN Lantzer to you scum." the mongoose seemed taken aback by this. A meerkat...a Personzan.....a CAPTAIN!? How had he managed to pull THAT one off?! "I believe you're supposed to salute your superior officers." Boneparte roughly grabbed the soldier, despite being smaller than he was. "Well!?" he shook the soldier a bit, who seemed both confused and angry. Losing patience, Boneparte backpawed the brute, pushing him back and catching him squarely on the snout.
The soldier staggered, in shock at what had just transpired. "Get back in line, and if I see you around me again you'll be arrested." Boneparte threatened, spitting down at the mongoose's paws. "You need to muzzle your dogs Casabianca....sir." Boneparte finally said distastefully as the soldier got back in line, muttering something about aristocratic scum.
"My apologies Captain Lantzer. I really do mean that." the older meerkat said, nodding. "You're right. They're nothing but worthless dogs. But their discipline is so bad I'm afraid that punishing them might make them even worse. They've done nothing but pick fights with the sailors the whole way down here, and have threatened to kill some of their officers too."
Shaking his head, Boneparte was in disbelief at this. "How could you let creatures like that into the army?"
"Blame General Carteaux. He's the one who gave me the worst units for this expedition. Did you know that two other generals resigned before me because they were so disgusted with them? I'm the third one to take this job, and I'm TRYING my best to see it through, but what I wouldn't give for professional soldiers."
Moving over to Val now, Boneparte held her arms and looked her over. "Are you alright?" he asked, wanting to make sure she hadn't been hurt in any way.

~Valeata
The femme stepped back when the beast made a move in her direction. He seemed to think that he was going to teach her a lesson by... what? Raping her? That seemed to be his plan and for more then a few moments her heart was caught in her throat and she couldn't say a single thing. She just stepped back even more and stood there trembling.
Val watched as things unfolded before her. The military beast that looked rather important came running up to them and demanded that the brute fall back into line. It looked as though he was going to refuse. Her eyes widened as Boneparte actually became physical with the brute. She certainly hoped that things wouldn't get out of paw, not just because of her. The last thing that she wanted to do was to make waves for Bone in his new assignment.
"Are you alright?" Val put on a smile and then stepped forward, leaning her forehead on his chest, her heart pounding in her own. "I'm fine. It just scared me that's all." Val looked up at him proudly. She felt good that he would actually take on a beast that was bigger then himself. "Thank you." Val was still lightly trembling as she leaned into his body, snuggling so that she could feel his arms around her if he so chose to hug her to himself.
