He was a bit unsure of why she called him a stoat, but he ensured that his paw didn't fall after she let it go. He just kept it in place, and held it on her cheek. "I love you too." He said softly, ignoring the sometimes odd glances he'd get from the others surrounding him, though they of course might be looking at Steep. It was hard to tell.
"I'm glad you're alive." he said, bending down to speak that right into her ear. He kissed her, realizing she was long gone, and he took Pip off of her prone form. So now take him back... and he felt he needed a smoke, so he'd probably head up on deck for that.
Giving her one last look, he pondered the meaning of her calling him a stoat once more, but finally shrugged it off and continued moving out of the sick berth with the duck in his arms. He pawed it over to Devonshire, who seemed confused at first, but stuck the mallard back in the cage after Saumarez indicated he should do so.
He headed up via the companionway to the weather deck, and took out a cigar before remembering he couldn't smoke up here. Growling, he thrust the stogie back into his pocket and sighed, rolling his eyes. So... another half a year maybe and he'd be having a wedding. Half a year... six months. How fast would that go? Could be the blink of an eye, the way things were going.
He leaned on the gunwale, and looked out over the harbor, catching the rising sun in all its bright glory. He squinted as he looked at the Reina Luisa or "Queen Luisa" bobbing close by. If only he could command a ship like that... he could take Priscilla all over the world. Despite their size, the Ferlusanians had somehow built them to be nearly as fast as frigates, or so the rumor went. For a 112 gunner, that was impressive.
He closed his eyes, and began to let the rocking of the ship underneath his paws send him off into a doze. A stoat... a marriage... a marriage... a marriage with Priscilla Steep... soon... very soon... months... and then... maybe a family... fighting together on the front lines... sharing a life... a new life... after... he... buried... his... old one.
And Saumarez was asleep, his cares fading from him as the massive 120 gunner began to head out into the harbor with the evacuees.
