Ocean was feeling a little more disgruntled than usual. Of course, he didn't realize that his whole career was now being jeopardized. If Ladorak Fugate ever found out about what had happened to him after their battle with that Rosferian frigate... it could have serious repercussions for him.
He of course, didn't know any of this right now. He could only cover himself for so much after all. He nodded as he watched Carrow dart over to Caden, who was way ahead of them. "Mmmhmm. It's alright. I'm sure all will be forgiven in good time. I for one have moved past it, you can rest assured of that." his tone was calm, and low. They were taking the fore companionway down, to avoid the rush coming up from the aft companionway.
"I'm sure that Caden has moved past it too. I guess we'll see, but he doesn't strike me as one to dwell on things for too long." the ermine explained. "Let's go then. Looking forward to some coffee, and whatever else they're serving." he said, knowing it was probably going to be oatmeal, as they generally didn't get meat (was more for the officers for breakfast), but that was fine with him.
Caden was just about to head down to the upper gun deck (and thence to the lower gun deck) when Carrow came up to him. The albino listened to him with interest, realizing just what it was exactly that Carrow was driving at here.
It caused a very wide smile to break out on the marten's features. Wider perhaps than any Carrow would have seen before. Caden's "star" caught the sun now, and glowed a bit as well, though of course it was only reflecting the sun's light. "Wow! I'm... you don't know how happy I am to hear that Carrow!" Caden exclaimed. "For the longest time... well ever since Naples I guess... I was beginning to think that my efforts just didn't matter to you. That you wanted to hold on to your depression... because honestly... and don't take this the wrong way but... I thought you sort of wanted that constant sympathy vote, you know? That it was more a cry for attention than anything else, forgive me for saying that. It wore me down because I just felt like I wasn't doing anything to help you. Nothing positive to move you in the right direction."
Here Caden paused, though he was still grinning from ear to ear. "But now, I'm very excited to see this new and confident Carrow. Or at least new and not depressed Carrow. But hey." he became a tad more serious now, and put his paw on the mouse's shoulder. "If you DO get genuinely upset... I will be here for you, OK? We all will be. And hopefully it won't drag you down too much, because from the way it sounds, it really does seem to be shaping up that you just took out a new lease on life." he said emphatically.
"Very glad to hear that... and hopefully I can be a creature that inspires you, and vice versa. All standing up for each other, and fighting for each other. Shakespeare probably incorrectly quoted Henry V when he wrote the play, but here it is. 'He who sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother.' And that... I don't think truer words have been spoken about war. To fight alongside another is... something else. I can't even fully describe it." the albino said, still smiling and shaking his head as he looked at the blue skies that were visible with the rising sun.
"Well let's get out of here, and go eat. I'm ready!" he declared, and clapped Carrow on the back as he headed down the stairs. A new start indeed! Maybe this year wouldn't be so bad after all!
