Right....as if the "guys" would drape their legs over him like that. He normally didn't go here with others, but he didn't tell her that. She went in to explaining about her family members, how many she had, what they were called, and this and that, after asking, but not giving him a chance to explain about his own family.
He did not answer her last question right away. It was......a delicate subject. It wasn't that Ladorak saw any harm in telling her, but at the same time he wasn't sure he could take retelling this tale again. He could shorten it, not go in to detail.....if not for her sake than for his. He nodded, looking down at the water to where his white tail could be seen. "Yes....it is important." He wanted to go in to more detail, but found himself instead moving on to the question about his family.
"My mother was killed right after she gave birth to me, so there are no other siblings. My father and I only found out we existed about a year ago, so we're not terribly close. My foster father, the one who raised me since birth" yes, he had no more qualms about calling Ublaz that. The rage he harbored had dissipated over the years. "Is dead as well." He looked up at her. "I don't know a great many beasts here, as I used to live elsewhere. An Admiral here though, Parker, he and his wife almost seemed to think of me as a son it seemed when I served under him in the western station. I visit from time to time, though I no longer serve directly under him. And that..."
The ermine stretched his arms back over the side of the calderium, resting them along the edge. He wasn't too worried, his white winter coat was thick enough to conceal most of his body, and he didn't have to worry about his frontside as much as she did. "Is pretty much all there is to tell about that." he said, a more relaxed look crossing his face now. He looked at her eyes, not her body, keeping himself well disciplined in her presence. He made no mention of his past relationship, and the fact that he'd nearly had a family before being driven away. It wasn't necessary for this conversation after all.
The water boiled around him, cooking him in a way, but it was relaxing, and good. He could tolerate her. Yes....it was fine. If they were to be sort of living together (the wings were separate) then he may as well learn to relax around her. He'd ship out sooner or later anyways, that was inevitable. He wondered how the next few months or next year for that matter would go however, with this....new addition to his life.

Jayd nodded happily at him when he agreed that a husband and a wife should have a good relationship but then her countenance became a little down when he informed her that he has lost loved ones in his life, especially his mother and the fact that he's never gotten the chance to know her, to even meet her pulled at the female's heart strings. To Jayd that was the saddest thing in the entire world, to not know your own mother, the one who carried you within her womb and then gave birth to you. For a little while she said nothing.
The female finished bathing, perhaps coming to regret crawling in his tub, perhaps only because he seemed so uncomfortable with it. At times she was much to forward, at times pushing people away from her. Jayd sat and thought about that, looking at Ladorak from time to time but still saying nothing. She wondered what he thought about her.
In time Jayd became even more uncomfortable, knowing that she had pushed the limits, she had stepped over the boundaries, like she usually did. Really he didn't want her in his tub. To Jayd he seemed to like the solitude of being alone, quite the opposite of Jayd. She loved being around other beasts, not every second of the day but at least for a little while. To have friends was a delight.
The female swallowed hard and then chuckled dryly toward Ladorak, the moments becoming awkward. She looked down at her upturned paw and then smiled, showing Ladorak. "I'm a prune. I've been in the water long enough. I'll meet you back at the house. I'm sorry that I've intruded." With that said she crawled out of his tub, not really caring if the bubbles covered her body or not. Jayd exited the room rather quickly, shuffling across the floor so as not to fall.
Once in the dressing room she dried herself off, dressed and then left, only checking with the attendant as to when she should show up for work and what her schedule would be like. After her inquiry was quenched she headed back to Ladorak's house and sat at the door of her new home, vowing inwardly to herself that she would not bother the male again, telling herself that this was just temporary until she got her own home. All would work out well she kept informing herself.
So there she sat, fiddling with her pruny paws, sitting on the ground with her back against the door, still wet from her bath but clearly smelling rather good. As she sat there alone she gazed at the area, imagining what the flowers would look like in the spring. This brought a smile to her face.

It wasn't until Jayd had decided to back off, perhaps realizing the ermine didn't like this attention as much, that Ladorak finally realized that he hadn't fully considered her feelings as well. She obviously hadn't been trying to sleep with him, and maybe....just maybe she was looking for a friend. She had been trying to reach out to him. Who knows? She was a stranger here, looking to settle down, and he had practically blown her off.
She had left him then, stewing in the calderium. He watched her leave, realization sinking in. Great...wonderful! Perfect first impression you made there Ladorak! He had to chide himself, he couldn't let this come to pass! He had pushed her out because of his own feelings but hadn't been thinking about how she herself felt. They didn't HAVE to become close after all....they could just be friends.
Exiting the baths, he dried off, redressed, and began heading back to his house. He wanted to make it up to her, to tell her he was sorry for acting so chilly and probably turning her off to this location entirely. It wasn't proper for a gentlebeast such as himself. He only hoped that she would forgive him, or at least tolerate him until he got a command and would be out of her fur.
Heading around to the side of her his house, to her wing, the ermine found her sitting on the steps and looking at his garden. Standing over her, he smiled. Not a bubbly, enthusiastic kind, but one that was sincere all the same. "I'm uh.....I'm sorry, if I reacted a bit coldly to you back there." A stiff wind blew, and he decided to sit down next to her. "You just have to understand something. I came here to Galdea to escape some things in my past. I've never had a real home, and I really thought I had found it......but that was just an illusion. I came here to this maritime nation because I love the sea, and to escape from all of that. I've been involved with another before, and it didn't end well....namely because I was forced to leave. I try to avoid feeling that way again, avoid feeling hurt, and so I wasn't sure about you at first. I didn't know what you wanted, or what you were after."
He stopped briefly to pick up some blades of grass. The grass had not died yet as snow had not yet found Thorpe, or any other part of Galdea. "But you just moved here, and were probably looking for kindness at the very least, which I didn't do a very good job of showing you. I don't mind you living here at all. If you're sore I can understand. I'll have to ship out eventually anyways, but while I'm here, I'd very much like to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. I might not be living the wealthiest or happiest existence, but I'll be here all the same. Can you at least forgive how I've acted up to now?" he asked, looking over at her for the first time really.
His opaline green eyes blinked behind his pince nez spectacles, and despite the fact that he had to squint a little to keep them on, there was nothing dark or hidden in his gaze. It was just him, Ladorak Fugate, plain ermine officer who was once again genuinely concerned for another's well being.

Jayd was upset, inwardly and outwardly, it misted over her delicate features as she listened to him even though she tried her best to keep her expression unseen by the male. Jayd had a hard time hiding her feelings.
She still fiddled with her paws. Her eyes opened up a little wider when he mentioned that he had been in a relationship before. Jayd knew that there was something amiss with him. The heart was a funny organ.
The female watched him and then spoke when it was her turn. "I forgive you. I'm a bit forward at times and for that I'm sorry. I'll try to refrain myself around you from now on." Jayd bit her bottom lip in thought as she said the last part. It would be hard to 'refrain' herself, especially so since she found him so attractive and her helpful nature at times was hard to squash, but she'd try.
For a moment she looked away but then turned to look at him again. "If your heart wasn't broken maybe we could have been more then friends?" Softly she laughed knowing full well that such longings would not go away so quickly, not that she thought that she was good enough for this male anyway... after all she's a pirate.

"It would be appreciated if you did thanks." Ladorak nodded, still smiling at her first comment. He had to stop himself to think for a moment about what she was hinting at. A relationship? If only he hadn't had his heart broken eh? That was....something he would have to consider at a later time.
The ermine gave her a shrug, frowning in a speculative way and shaking his head. "Who knows? I can't really say to be honest Jayd. It may happen, it may not. Granted, I'm a little more accessible now that I'm at home. Believe me this isn't very typical. I'm used to constantly being away at sea, and this is the longest stretch I've gone on land." he was explaining his situation to her, making it clear he wasn't normally around his home like this, and that this was an aberration to say the least.
"However....with what time I do have....I would..." he was trying to be careful in phrasing his words, not wanting to get her hopes up too soon, and yet also not wanting to depress with a possibility that would never happen. "Definitely like to get to know you better." he said at last, chewing on his bottom lip as he did so. "I mean....you are sweet and kind, and I'm sure I'd have no problems with you at all living here."
That smile was back again, and there was warmth creeping in as well, despite the cold. Warmth from Ladorak...that was something he hadn't been able to show in months now. True, it was minute, but it was there.

Jayd would have to be careful with this one. He wasn't like the typical males that she had met in the past. Ladorak was different. The stoat seemed to have a deeper emotion then she's used to. It was actually comforting to know that there were still some good males out there yet. "To get to know you would be wonderful as well Ladorak."
The stoat-tess cleared her throat and then began to rock back a forth a bit, hugging her knees to her chest. She was slightly nervous. "Well I have to start my job tomorrow. What do you do all day? What will you do for the rest of your evening?" Softly she smiled, wanting him to feel comfortable around her.

"Well..." he paused, knowing that Christmas was coming up soon, a holiday that the Imperium celebrated, though in a different way. They did everything differently over there it seemed....but yes, that was coming up. "I'll mostly be getting myself ready for Christmas, and might take a trip out to Stratospheros tomorrow if I can, see if I can speak to Admiral Hood again about obtaining a command at sea." the ermine often made trips out there, and spoke on behalf of old crew members, trying to ensure they earned their pensions properly from the government.
"As for tonight." he shook his head. "No, I don't have anything planned. Might get some reading done as I typically do. Why? How about yourself?" he asked curiously. "Can get rather boring not being at work this time of year after all."

Jayd didn't know what this 'christmas' was but she kept that to herself, assuming that it was some sort of celebration for this part of the globe. Out at sea they saw no need to do such traditions. The only thing that they ever did was have an occasional week or so of shore leave.
The female nodded as if she knew what he was talking about....
She simply smiled sweetly and then answered 'his' question. "I suppose that I should get familiar with my new home and I suppose that I'll have to make something to eat, that is if there's any food to be found." Her eyes then lit up. "Would you like for me to cook dinner for you? I'm a very good cook." Eagerly she looked at him, her eyes lighting up with the idea of spending more time with Ladorak but this time in a more relaxed setting.

Ladorak's eyes shone for a moment as well. Just the prospect of inviting her in...but caution Ladorak, must remain cautious. He nodded, his smile still there. "Yes...I think I'd like that very much. I'm well stocked on food, the one thing I seem to have in abundance here." he state, rising to his feet. "It would be my pleasure, I'm not a terrible cook myself, was one of the early things I learned how to do at sea." he explained, heading around to his section of the house.
Opening the door. ermine led the way in to an expansive and well furnished living room. A blue carpet ran off to a windowed section, and framed by about three or so windows that fronted the sea was a Christmas Tree, not that Jayd would know though. It was strung about with glittering garland and gold painted ornaments. Some wrapped presents were already underneath the tree, having been sent by acquaintances, shipmates, some of his superiors, and his father. They were decked out in multicolored wrapping paper.
The sun was starting to go down now, the days being incredibly short this time of year. A Fireplace yawned open on the other side of the room, and above the mantle, mounted on the wall, rested an incredibly fine and highly tempered blade of carbonized steel, making it nearly black. One could tell that this wasn't like the fanciful but ultimately useless weapons that some beasts like to parade around with. Yes it had jewelry on it, but it was a well crafted as well, having coming from the Serami Blades Limited Corporation itself, the best out there. It was a bastard sword, heavy and meant for two pawed use. It also was adorned by a large opal in the middle of the haft which was complemented by a smaller but still brilliant amethyst on the bottom of the hilt.
"Midlight Hammer" it was labeled, though why it was mounted there was really anybeast's guess. Obviously it held some meaning for the ermine. He pointed with a claw to a well furnished and open kitchen towards the back of the living room area, and through a dining room. "The kitchen is back there. I could help if you like. As said, I'm not half bad with food." he said, chuckling now, a sound that caught him off guard to say the least.

Jayd tried to keep from looking about. His home was so big and beautiful. It was hard to believe that it was only for one creature but the female stoat refrained from judging. She smiled when she could envision Ladorak with a house filled with children running about here and there with a nanny chasing in their wake.
The female stifled a giggle....
His paw directed her to the kitchen as his mouth offered her some help. Jayd glanced over her shoulder, responding to him in kind. "If I need a paw I'll let you know." She grinned and then approached the first counter top. Her paws waved smoothly over it. The kitchen was a beautiful wide open space with plenty of room to make a mess. Jayd seemed right at home there. Most things were placed in the common areas.
She started by removing her black pirate boots and kicking them to the side so that she could move more freely upon her footpaws and then she put on a teapot for tea for the two of them, finding the cups and teabags almost immediately as she began to hum softly.
Jayd had hoped that he would sit at the table so that they could still see each other so that they could talk, or perhaps at the bar where there were likely high stools to sit at.
