Caden was going to respond and say that yes, advice would be well received, but he coudn't of course, as Carrow moved over to them now as they themselves were making their way to the companionway.
Caden became a little tense, but smiled all the same. "Ah Carrow... I was just heading up topside to take care of some business... got a date with the chains, after all." He said, hoping Carrow would catch his drift. "After that, was figuring we could walk around up there. We're heaving to at the moment, so no work is being done aloft, and if you're with me, you can pretty much go anywhere on the ship, save for the cabins of the Lieutenants, Master, and Captain, of course." he informed them. "So come on, let's go!" he motioned with his arm, and began to climb the staircase or "ladder" as it was called.
He emerged into the daylight, and squinted a little, being more photosensitive to light than his friends were. As the Sun was further away from the Earth, it wasn't all that bright, though the albino still found it slightly so. He looked about him, and decided to head to the starboard side of the ship, as that was the one facing away from Toulon and the shore. It wasn't like he actually cared, though he still felt a little self-conscious all the same.
He paused in mid step however as a Quatermaster's mate shouted out "CAPTAIN ON DECK!" and Caden immediately stiffened, spinning on a pawpad, and rotating himself around to face the larboard side of the ship as Ladorak ascended via the ladder and entry port. Already the Coxswain and his mates were rushing onto the poop deck to raise the Captain's launch back onto the ship.
Caden came to a salute, as did everyone present on the deck (there were not many), and the Captain returned the salute, putting them at ease. He appeared a little flustered however, and Caden decided to head over to him now. "Sir." he said, greeting him, though he was tempted to call him "dad". "Welcome back."
"Ah, Caden. Selvis. Carrow." the molting said, looking at each in turn.
"How was the meeting?" Caden asked, studying his guardian attentively.
"Bah... Admiral Hood is leaving us, I'm afraid. Recalled... as he feared. We knew it was coming whenever word from Welkin could reach us but... I just... didn't expect it to happen so soon." Ladorak replied, shaking his head a bit sadly.
"That's terrible, sir. I know how much he... means to you. Even before we set out to sea... you always spoke of how he had taught you so much, and how you had enjoyed being his understudy." Caden said, face falling a little.
"Aye... it came as a surprise... even though I knew to expect it as well. Hotham will be taking his place for now until they can find someone more... permanent. Victory will be leaving us soon, to convey the Admiral back home. Ahem... we're going to be heading to Livorno though, for a refit, and also for... winter quarters, so it looks like it'll be Christmas in Florence again." he stated, a thin smile spreading across his lips. He wasn't going to go into the fact that Hotham would soon be abandoning the blockade, and possibly even Personza for the colder months.
"Ah! I see!" Caden exclaimed, growing excited, his eyes shining a bit now. "We'll be sailing soon then?"
The molting stoat nodded. "We will."
"Great! I uh... just need to take care of some business in the chains, and I'd be happy to spread the word to get all cew aloft, sir."
Ladorak nodded, smile increasing now. "Of course. I'd appreciate that. I'll be telling the Boatswain shortly to pipe all crew aloft, and we'll get this ship underway."
"Yes sir!" Caden exclaimed, and hopped up onto the hammock rail, clambering over it and lowering himself down carefully into the main chains. "So what do you think of that, guys?" he asked, decided to stuff his self-consciousness. They were leaving, so what did he care? "Christmas in Florence again! Bet you weren't expecting that!"
