Caden's cry made Jayd physically wince. His little voice echoed through her head until she felt as though she needed to put her paws over her ears to keep it from vibrating. Ladorak got to the kit before Jayd could, the dress hindering her movements.. her frustration grew.
Jayd stopped in her tracks, frozen in time for a moment or two, as she noted that Ladorak was busy fussing with Caden, telling him to hold still. He then turned and shouted for her to go get the vet. Immediately she nodded and shot off in an entirely different direction. The femme remembered her face very clearly.
Hastily the femme interrupted their conversation, but still trying to be as polite as possible. "Jis Bludd? Please there's an emergency that needs your attention. Please...." Jayd took her by the paw and led her to Caden, knowing full well that her desire to heal would be perked since she was a vet.. hopefully.
Instantly Jayd fell to her knees, not caring if the dress got dirty or not. She ran an affectionate paw through Caden's headfur, not really sure how he would react to that but Jayd was beginning to feel like he was her own son. "Ladorak?" Her voice was urgent. She insisted on wanting to know what was going on without even really asking. Lad could see that she was very excited, even though she tried to contain herself. Her chest was heaving, mostly due to her running for the vet, but also because her adrenaline was rushing because of Caden being hurt.

Luxe approached the group, shame faced and embarrassed. He winced when Caden called him 'mean beast' though he probably deserved the title. "Hello Jal Fugate, Jis." Nodding towards them. he cleared his throat awkwardly. Luxe started to explain, stopped, then tried again, still couldn't. Luxe looked at the kit, he seemed to be in real pain.
"Look Jal Fugate, I..." 'Oh great, now i'm starting to stutter!' Luxe decided to start at the beginning of what had happened "Jal, it is my habit to relieve the Nanny on these occasions, I don't particularly like dancing, and.." 'Get to point Luxe,' he thought. "When I went into the room, Caden had managed to grab all of the toys and pile them in a corner, I passed them out and challenged him to a dual with a set of toy swords I found in the pile, hoping to make a point.." Luxe ran a nervous paw through his headfur. "I wasn't used to the weight of the toy, and it being very sturdy, I swung it to hard on my last pass.. forgetting for a minute that I wasn't dealing with a beast much older." He sighed and began again. " He was using both paws instead of just one, as most kits his age do, and fought above his age level, Long story short, when I hit the sword, it most likely broke his arm.." He shook his head, realizing that what he had just said would most likely lower him in the Jal's eyes to someone who lives to pick on kits. "I didn't mean to, I didn't want, and I am extremely sorry." This last bit was directed at Caden, who was still whimpering a bit. Luxe knelt in front of the kit a ways away though, and spoke softly, as to not spoke him again. "I'm sorry Caden, In my diffence, i will say that if you had not been holding the sword so well, it would just have flown out of your paws.." He said with a sad smile.
With this Luxe stood straight again, locked his paws behind his back and looked towards Ladorak, to see what he would say...

Bryony Bludd had been discussing some reforms with Princess Sybil. The only problem was that Sybil was now married to General Ferdinand, and as such she spent more of her time in Gradvar than she did in Galdea. But when a bounding Jayd came up to her, telling her of the emergency, she gave one look at Monty, who nodded at her, and the two of them proceeded to follow Jayd out of the hall and towards the place were Ladorak was kneeling with Caden.
Ladorak, for his part, was listening to what Luxe had to say and trying to keep Caden's arm as immobile as possible. The kit was clinging to his uniform as if he were frightened of something.....probably he just wanted the pain to go away. "You HIT him!?" Ladorak exclaimed, the shock clear on his face.
"What were you thinking!?" he yelled. "He's just a kit! A bone fracture can be serious for one his age!" Ladorak did have some issues with anger, but rarely lost his temper unless something dear to him were threatened. "Don't you realize he might have cut an artery running around like that!" but he had to stop because Jayd was by his side, and had called his name.
"This beast hit Caden!" Ladorak said in a disbelieving voice to her as he turned to face his fiancee.
"Let me see him." Bryony was kneeling down now but Ladorak almost seemed reluctant to let the kit go. "Commander Fugate, I need to see the child." Bryony persisted. Ladorak finally let him go. "It's a fracture alright....high up too....above the elbow." she said thoughtfully. Ladorak appeared to be nervous, bordering on outright anger. "I heard most of what happened....I'd say the toy might have actually struck his arm as well as the sword." the weasel vet explained. Monty hovered close by, looking on with concern on his face. "I'm going to have to splint that. Monty if you wouldn't mind heading to the palace infirmary, tell them there's been an accident and that I'll need splint boards." Monty nodded and began walking rapidly in the direction that he hoped the infirmary was.
"I can't believe you would do that...." Ladorak said, his foice strained as he tried to keep his bubbling wrath under control.
"I believe he said it was an accident Commander Fugate." Bryony chimed in to remind the ermine of that fact.
"But still......a fracture at his age....."
"Isn't entirely uncommon. It would have been worse if the bone were shattered." Oddly enough.....Bryony's words might have been prophetic, but not for Caden. In almost that exact same spot on the arm Ladorak himself would be suffering an injury....but that would years in the future. "He's a kit, which means his body is still growing, and the healing process would take a lot less time than it would for a full grown adult like or I." Bryony explained. "I'd say three weeks with a splint and then a week of very gentle movement of the arm and he'll be fine." 3 weeks!? Ladorak was used to the usual 6 weeks of splint and then 2 of rehabilitation. A kit's body was truly something magnificent.....
"However...." the weasel jill sighed. "I'm going to need some help here. I need a poultice first and foremost in order to stop his swelling." she looked up at Luxe. "You, if you would be so kind as to find something absorbant, dunk it in clean, cold water please, and get a cloth to place it on, I would be very grateful. It will help with his swelling. Actually...a piece of bread from the gala would probably work just as fine, and of course the cloth from somewhere." Bryony explained to Luxe, in case the stoat was unaware of what a poultice was.
Ladorak looked at Luxe with some distrust, but he was only distraught over what had happened, he wasn't thinking clearly of course. Any other circumstance he would have forgiven the blacksmith quickly, but right now his mind was in protection mode, and Caden's safety and comfort was the only thing he could think of.
Turning to Jayd, he briefly explained what had happened. "Luxe and Caden were playing apparently....but Luxe got a little too rough and ended up breaking Caden's arm. I....I just can't see how it could have happened." he said breathlessly, looking down at the ground and then over at Caden, his face awash with worry. "Oh Caden...." he breathed, reaching out for Jayd's paws without realizing it. He took them in his own....perhaps for comfort....he wasn't even sure.
Caden, for his part, was being tended by Bryony, who was making sure his arm was perfectly straight and wasn't moving. He'd occasionally glance over at them, his pink eyes filled with tears, but he was doing his best not to cry in front of either of them now. He still didn't fully trust them after all.....

Jayd managed to get back up to her footpaws. She wanted to get out of the way for when the Vet needed to examine the kit. In the meantime she listened to Lad and then looked toward Luxe. She could see the sorrow in his eyes and felt bad for him. Clearly it was an accident.
Then Ladorak came over and took her paws into his. Jayd could also see that Lad was quite upset but she also knew that he needed to calm down. The femme slipped one paw around his back after she tugged him bodily toward her. Softly she whispered to him. "Lad.... I think that it was an accident. Look at him. He feels terrible." Her eyes encouraged Lad to look over at Luxe.
As Lad looked over at Luxe, if he did at all, Jayd looked toward Caden. His pink eyes were still a pair of dibbun's eyes to the femme and her heart went out to him. She just wanted to go over and take him in her arms and snuggle with him. But she was sure that the kit wouldn't allow that. Tears began to fill her own eyes. She had to remember that Caden wasn't really hers and that within her womb she carried Ladorak's child.

Ladorak looked over at Luxe briefly, refusing to meet his eyes for very long though. He looked back over at Jayd. Caden looked at the two of them, sniffling a bit but not crying. Ladorak shook his head.
"I'm aware of that but....Jayd" He was trying to compose himself, trying to suck in a few breaths to steady his roiling emotions. "I'm responsible for him now. I knew his mother personally and I feel awful that he had to lose her at such a young age. I mean.....I HAVE to protect him Jayd. It's not just because it's all that's left of Sken's memory.....but it's because it's her future too....her own kit.....that she never had a chance to raise." he said, his own eyes misting up as he spoke this now. "I don't think I'd ever forgive myself if something happened to him." He wrapped his arms around her tightly, as if he were afraid he'd lose her somehow as well.
Caden, for his part, couldn't understand why Ladorak hadn't outright killed that other stoat. It wasn't fair! That beast should have been run through or at least beaten up! He just couldn't think of it as an accident....it had been intentional in his eyes.
Moving over to where Bryony held him, Ladorak gave him the best smile he could muster. "Hey there buddy.....how are you doing?" He reached out a paw, gently resting it on Caden's unhurt shoulder. "I know you're probably in a lot of pain right now...." the albino nodded his head, sniffling again. "But hey....sometimes we get hurt....and sometimes it's an accident.....I'm sure that Luxe didn't mean to do that...."
"He attacked me...." Caden said flatly.
"Yeah well....sometimes things like that happen."
"I don't wanna be here!" Caden whined.
"Alright.....we'll leave if you want. But Jis Bludd has to get you setup with your splint first. You're going to have to wear it for a few weeks, OK bud? You're also going to have to be really careful...otherwise a lot of damage could be done to your arm." Ladorak rocked Caden a bit with his paw.
"Why didn't you hit him?" the kit said, as if accusing Ladorak of not doing the right thing.
"Believe me Caden....had Luxe been a bad guy.....he wouldn't even be walking right now.....but I think that what Luxe did was an accident." This caused Caden to seethe inside. It made him resent this stoat all the more. His mother would've killed that impertinent blacksmith....she wouldn't have hesitated. "Caden....you have to realize that sometimes things are accidents. I think that if Luxe had meant to hurt you well.....he would've done more." Caden didn't say anything, he only glared at Ladorak darkly.
It broke the ermine's heart to see Caden this way. Poor....bitter kit.....he wished desperately that circumstances were better for him. Looking at Bryony, he asked her a question. "Jis Bludd....I assume we'll have to buy splints from our local vet?"
Bryony nodded. "Not too often though. The ones Monty are bringing along should suffice for a while." nodding, Ladorak turned to Jayd now.
"Oh yeah...Jayd....I forgot to tell you...speaking of finances.....the reason I'm a little tight is I was sued for damages by several merchant captains after seizing their ships. I was just enforcing Galdean law but....it was an unpopular law, and the merchant captains took me to court, set me back a few paychecks let's just say. We should factor his splints into our expenses. Sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier.....how are you holding up so far?" he asked the jill, his temper having finally subsided. His eyes seemed to be looking for reassurance from her as well. Reassurance that he wasn't a bad guardian of Caden....and that he wasn't failing as a caretaker.

Ladorak seemed to think that he had to explain to Jayd why he felt so passionate about protecting Caden. Jayd understood and she gave him that expression of understanding but she was trying to get him to see that it was indeed an accident. The femme believed that he got the point, especially so when he started to explain to Caden.
Jayd could see the tension building within the kit. She almost couldn't stand watching him. It was such a grown up feeling for such a young one to have to carry with him mentally. She tried so hard to hide her sadness for the kit, especially from Ladorak because she didn't want to give him the wrong idea about what she was feeling.
The stoatess stepped forward and smiled reassuringly and also gave Luxe a small smile as well while she took Lad by the paw. "Don't worry Lad. You don't need to explain finances to me. It will all work out in the end. We'll be fine and so will Caden. He's strong. He'll be just fine." Jayd hoped that her words would bring some comfort to everyone.

(( Ok, now i can post, and a bit of fun with Luxe... ;D))
Luxe nodded, and dashed off to get some food from the table's in the party. He quickly threaded his way through the many attendees, hoping to avoid his Master on his way. He had managed to reach the tables when Gaylor finally caught up with him. "Luxe, there you are, I want to introduce you to a..." Gaylor's voice trailed off as Luxe turned and reached across his chest to grab a glass of water off of a waiters tray.
"Luxe what happened?" His old Master was concerned now, "You look like some one has suckered punched you, and you saw it coming." Luxe's turned a tortured gaze to him "Master, do you remember the lesson you taught me soon after I became you apprentice?" Gaylor chuckled a little, then sobered quickly as Luxe's eye's registered even more guilt. "Of course I do lad. How could I forget breaking my best apprentices forelimb, and a rib to boot?" He said. Luxe smiled sadly. "And I never forgot that lesson," Gaylor shook his head, a grin playing around his mouth, remembering the handful Luxe had been. Then he grew concerned "So what happened Luxe?" Gaylor put a paw on Luxe's shoulder, turning the young male to face him.
Luxe sighed and faced him, his hands full of every thing that the Vet had said she would need. "I tried to teach a similar lesson to a young kit in the Nursery, and he is the adopted son of Ladorak Fugate, a friend from Thorpe." Luxe began to move away form Gaylor. "I had hoped to do it without the breaking of bones, But I forgot myself on the last stroke, and..." Luxe trailed off here, but his paws began to hit the floor harder as he sped up, beginning to race himself back to the hall way. The old pine martin nodded to himself, and followed after his old apprentice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The duo arrived on the scene around the time that Caden was turning towards Ladorak with his questions. Gaylor stood in the back round, waiting and listening.
Luxe stopped short of running into Jis Bludd and Caden. He quickly handed off his armload of stuff to the Vet. Standing again he turned to face Ladorak. "Jal Fugate, I'm truly sorry for what I did, I had hoped to make a point that my Master had made to me when I was Caden's age. And I'll take care of any medical bills that come from this."
At this, Gaylor stepped up to stand by Luxe. He had just processed Caden's request for Luxe to be hurt in some way. "You know young'un, that's not such a bad idea." said Gaylor, winking to the younger pine martin. Luxe turned a quizzical look on his former master, he hadn't heard the the request. Gaylor just smiled slyly at him, then brought his heavy metal pace stick crashing into Luxe's jaw, causing Luxe to fall back against the wall, and cracking his jaw badly. He turned again to Caden. "There, now he has paid his physical dues, and when he is fully awake, he will make good on his promise of monetary ones." The first bit was directed at Caden, and the last at Ladorak. "Oh, and I am Luxe's old blacksmith master, Gaylor Digun." He said putting a paw out to shake Ladorak's.

Bryony gratefully took the poultice and applied it to Caden's arm to help with the swelling. Monty was coming back as well, his paws containing two boards and some bandages. It seemed that Caden would be fixed up in no time. Ladorak listened to what Luxe had to say, and at the offering of paying for medical expenses well.....the ermine wasn't sure how he felt about that one.
He was about to open his mouth to ask Luxe just what lesson he had been planning on teaching the kit when suddenly the elderly pine marten whacked Luxe's jaw quite sharply with his staff, and cause the unfortunate blacksmith to topple backwards against a wall. Ladorak openly winced as he heard the impact with Luxe's masseter. What was this guy's problem!?
He quickly introduced himself as Gaylor Digun, and Ladorak only hesitatingly took his paw in a shake. By now, Bryony was working on getting Caden's arm in the splint, but she too grimaced at the mistreatment of the blacksmith. She was a bit too preoccupied with keeping Caden's arm straight however to speak up just yet. Caden, for his part, was staring wide eyed, shocked at first at what had happened, but then he broke into sort of a satisfied smile as well. Good....he'd gotten at least what he deserved. Ladorak wasn't sure he approved the beating in front of Caden however. It would only encourage him later on.....
Monty was a bit appalled too at the rough treatment that Luxe's teacher had just delivered, but didn't outwardly show it. This whole evening had been just....crazy. But then again, he could only expect it whenever the nobles threw a ball. If it wasn't their own then it was either him or Bryony or who were stirring up at least a modicum of trouble by lobbying.
"Sir you didn't have to do that. Not in front of the kit." Ladorak told him as he stood up. Caden only shook his head. Ladorak was such a softie! Sure, he had killed that bad beast that had attacked Luxe a few weeks ago but....this was just ridiculous! He wished he were once again back home....and that his mother wasn't dead. Caden would need to learn to respect life it seemed.
Walking over to Luxe, Ladorak looked him over, waving a paw in front of his face. "There we go!" Bryony finished, raising to her hind paws and giving Caden one last look over. "He's all set. Just change the splint about once a week for the next three weeks, and make sure he doesn't move his arm too much for at least a week after that." Caden hated this! He could barely move his arm now, and the pain was still there! He looked over with a sense of triumph at the wounded Luxe though. Stupid jerk...the kit hoped he'd be feeling that one for a while now.
Turning back around to Jayd and Caden, Ladorak still didn't move from his spot in front of Luxe however. "Well.....I suppose we should head out Jayd. Apologies that we couldn't stay longer. I mean.....what do you think? I think it would be better to just get Caden home. Sir." He turned to Gaylor now. "Tell Luxe thanks for me for offering to cover medical expenses. We'll work out details with him when we get back to Thorpe. Sorry for this whole mess...." He felt very self-conscious now, and only hoped that rumors wouldn't spread about him now. "Jis Bludd....thanks always for your assistance....do you I owe you...?" he started fumbling in his pockets for his wallet.
"Oh no Ladorak. You know I would always help you free of charge." It was true. Bryony had her own clinic for the poor that she ran free of charge. She only charged the wealthy, and she knew that Ladorak was squeezed for finances now, and wouldn't think of charging the Commander.
"Thank....." Ladorak bowed his head gratefully, glad that Bryony was such a caring and sympathetic weasel. "Jayd....if you could take Caden....I could try and get Luxe to our carriage, that is....if you don't mind us taking him back with us Sir?" Ladorak looked at Gaylor now. Maybe this old fogey had more to teach his disciple...in which case Ladorak could only shudder at the thought. He tried to refrain from using corporal punishment on his ships if he could but sometimes he knew it was necessary.

Gaylor shook his head, smiling grimly. "No Jal, I have no more intended for Luxe here," He shook his head at Luxe's prone form. "When he wakes up, he'll understand what I did. Good night all." He said turning to go away, then paused , as if had forgotten something. "You there, Caden isn't it?" Gaylor swung back to face the kit, not waiting for a response. "I'll have you know that what I just did had absolutely nothing to do with pay backs for you limb there," He said waving his stick at the limb. "I did it as a refresher course of a lesson I thought I had taught that boy years ago, when he was still my apprentice." The old beast reached into his jacket pocket and pulled something out. "If you ever get up the guts to ask Luxe about this, He'll explain."
As he finished he flipped a coin towards Caden's uninjured paw. It had a design on both sides, one was a large hammer, held by a bandaged paw. On the other, was the same hammer, held by the same paw, not bandaged this time. "Good night all. Jal, if you wouldn't mind, would you tell Luxe I'll be coming to Thorpe within the next month or so on business." Nodding politely to the others in the group, he strode off down the hallway, towards the ball room.
Luxe shook his head groggily. His head was still spinning from the blow to the jaw. He reached up a paw to to feel his tender jaw. There was a large lump on it. It was taking Luxe a while to get his bearings, he barely registered what all Gaylor had told Caden. Luxe tried to pull himself to his feet, and failed miserably. His head spun so much he had to close his eyes and just sit there. He knew that this wouldn't last long, he healed fast, but it sure hurt now...
((Feel freee to auto Luxe into the carriage))

Ladorak regretted their night coming to an early conclusion....but that was the price to pay when had a kit to look out for. Using his rather strong biceps, Ladorak looped one of Luxe's arms over his shoulders, hoisting the semi-conscious stoat to standing.
Caden looked down at the coin, turning it over in his paw. What was this? Why had that old marten given it to him? That didn't make any sense! He didn't hit that jerk as payback!? What was wrong with these beasts? They all lacked the necessary gall here! Every single one of them! It made Caden all the more furious at the situation. Here he was stuck in a splint for 3 weeks and not a single one seemed to care enough to beat that stoat senseless!
"Thank you Jis Bludd...once again for everything. Jal Sylver, sorry I wasn't able to socialize with you." Ladorak turned to the weasel detective.
"Not a problem Commander Fugate. You just take care of what needs taking care of. I'd offer you lodgings at my place for the night but sadly.....I only have one bed." the detective said a bit regretfully. Ladorak knew full well that living in a flat usually gave you enough space for yourself and possibly one other if you weren't claustrophobic. "Congratulations on your engagement again....do send me an invite to the wedding."
"I'll be sure to do that. Jis Bludd of course as well." Ladorak said, to which she smiled and nodded at him. "Jayd...are you about all set?" he asked his fiancee now. He really hated to do this to her, leaving early and all on their engagement night...but maybe it was for the best. He had been told by Admiral Hood that King Poynt didn't exactly have a favorable impression of Ladorak anymore thanks mainly to his friendship with Prince Ragnar, whom the King was almost constantly quarreling with. It had prejudiced him against his son's friends as well, even though Ladorak barely knew King Poynt. Besides it wasn't as if he'd been invited here by a noble.....no he was here solely on the invite of Admiral Hood, who had extended him the invitation to be polite.
Speaking of Admiral Hood....oh Ladorak wished desperately to speak with him one more time. If he could just have command of a longboat he'd be happy! It wouldn't matter, so long as he could get out to sea! Then too there was a baby on the way....and Ladorak definitely wanted to be around for that. It was a rock and a hard place. He'd have to work to support his new family, but doing so would keep him away from them for a time. But best worry about that later...they should really concentrate on going. Caden had wandered over to Jayd after Bryony had let him go, but he wasn't sure why Ladorak was taking Luxe with them.
