“Um, Miss Mist, I uh…” ‘Oh boy’ thought Noel, running a paw through his headfur. ‘How in the name of common sense did I get into this?’
Noel looked up at her. Her smile was very nice, almost like a.. Noel stopped a moment, his thoughts a bit confused as he tried to find something to compare it to, but before he could, his thoughts came back to what he was trying to say.
“Miss Mist, I.. I am the owner of this establishment.” He said, with a considerable amount of humility, and embarrassment. He had assumed that she knew that he owned the place.
“And now that’s you mention it,” He said looking at Marta for a moment. “Maria, the receptionist, quit today.” He turned back to Viv. “How good are you at keeping records?” He didn’t think that Viviana would pull a trick on him, she didn't seem to be that kind of beast.

Viv's eyes lit up, not because she thought that she just hit the jack pot but because she honestly did not know that he was the owner. But of course he was! Viv should have seen the signs. She was ashamed with how bubble-headed she could be. Her face was even hinted with a slight blush. "Uh no! I didn't know that this was your establishment. Honestly I didn't." Truthfully she just wanted to crawl in a hole and die. With all of the things that she needed to think about now she ended up making herself look like a fool. The last thing that she wanted him to do was to hire her because he felt like he was put on the spot.
She needed to leave! Right now! Polietly she got up and put Elana on the chair in which she just sat. Her paws began to sweat and tremble. This was not the way that she wanted to get a job. Tears welled up in her eyes as she turned to Noel. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to intrude into your private place. I didn't know...... I'm an idiot. I'm just going to drown myself now." She wasn't really going to kill herself. They didn't know that but she felt like it. Her life was such a mess and her mind was so confused that she just couldn't stand it anymore.
Viviana ran for the door. Abruptly she turned and looked at Noel, the tears now falling down her face like a gentle stream. "And I'm sorry for your loss and I'm sorry I took up your time." Viv finally darted out the door, feeling like a femme that was trying to be a gold digger. She was never going to be able to do what her father wanted her to.
The female Meerkat immediately went to her luggage, attempting to pick up every single one so that she could take a swift leave. Where were those damned crew beast when a lady 'really' needed them?!

Noel stood, feeling like her couldn't move... What in the world was she talking about?? Drown herself? "Mama, I'll be right back..." He said as he moved to the door, pausing just before he left to turn back to Marta "Loss, Mama?" She smiled and waved a paw at him, go get her before she does anything rash Noel." Noel left, with Myles on his heels. As he made his way down the steps he stopped. What was he supposed to do?!?
Noel stood, chewing on his bottom lip, trying to think of how he could diffuse the response to what he had said. He snapped his claws together as he had an idea. "Myles, I need you to do something for me..." He said as he turned to his valet, Myles only reaction was to raise his eyebrows, and grin. ******* Myles made his way down to where Viviana was trying to get all of her things together at one time. "Here Miss Mist, let me help you with that." He said, taking most of what she was trying to carry in her arms, and settling them so he could carry them easily. "There we go Miss, now where do you want to taken, do you have a place nearby?"

Viv saw Myles coming from the corner of her eye. In her mind she thought that she knew why Noel didn't come himself. It was because she was a stupid female. To him she probably seemed like a begger of some sort. The tears still cascaded down her cheeks although from time to time she did wipe them off with the back of her paw.
Sadly Noel was probably right in his thinking, 'if' that was what he was thinking at all. She felt like a begger. She felt like she wasn't worthy. It was all because of her father and what he expected her to do.
Now poor Myles would likely hear the cold hard truth as Viv nodded. Eventually she would have to admit to him that she didn't have a place to stay at all, which was the whole purpose of her visit to the Tavern in the first place.
Viv gathered up the rest of her things and looked at Myles, after she got outside and into the street. "You know I didn't know that he owned this Tavern. I wasn't trying to get something for nothing. I wanted a job. I'm a hard worker and would have earned my pay." V began to walk, her saunter was slow and pitiful as was her dark gray eyes when she looked over at the valet. "You believe me don't you?" Her stare at him was wavered slightly, as if she was afraid of what he might say.
She took a few more steps and decided that she wouldn't give him the chance to say anything negative. Instead she would pour her heart out to him. "My father sent me here to find a rich husband because we lost everything in a freak storm. I've decided today that I'm not doing it! I refuse! If I had money I would go back home right now!" The femme stopped and her shoulders slouched as she shook her head. "I don't have any place to go. What am I going to do?" V went to plop down on the nearest park bench and threw her face into the palms of her paws.

Myles followed a few paces behind Vivania. Listening to her with a silent understanding, he had been in a similar situation once, with out the marriage bit. When she sat down, Myles bent and placed everything he was holding on the ground near the bench, then sat on the other side of the bench, fiddling with the cuff of his sleeve.
“I don’t think that you’ve got the right idea about Master Noel.” He paused, remembering. “In fact, most beasts don’t. I know I didn’t, at first, the only thing I thought of was ‘what a jack to rob’.” Myles smiled in a self deprecating way as he turned to face her. “You see, I used to be a thief, my specialty being pick-pocketing being what I did best. I tried to steal his cuff links; he caught me at it, after he followed me to my house, then a little later, after I sat in jail for a little while.” He held up his sleeve so she could see the cuff link on it. “This set is actually the one I tried to take, he gave it to me on my birthday that year, to remind me that stealing didn’t pay.”
Myles put his paw gently on Viv’s shoulder. “Miss Viviana, if Master Noel offered you a job, he meant it.” He grinned, “Come on, if he hired a thief to be his personal valet, he would certainly he can offer a job to someone who honestly wanted one.” Myles stood and offered a paw to her, “What do you Miss Viviana? Will you come back?”

She still could not understand why Noel just couldn't tell her these things himself. Indeed the male puzzled her greatly but she really needed a job and a place to stay, especially given the fact that she now decided that she will no longer be male-hunting / husband hunting. This will be a fresh start for her and this place was as good as any to settle down in.
Viv looked at Myles when he offered a paw to her. She gave him a half smile and a sniffle as she wiped her face with one paw and with the other took his paw. "I guess it's worth a shot. What else do I have to lose now?" Viv stood and began to pick up her things that surrounded her.
For a moment she waited for Myles before she began to walk. Viv chatted with him along the way. "I don't know where I'll stay. Right now I have no money. But I'm a hard worker and can do just about anything." The tavern loomed ahead and when Viv saw it her stomach got butterflies in it.

Noel stood just inside a large bank of window on the second floor, watching as Myles and Viv talked. Yes, she was coming back. He broke into a large grin, he didn't know why he cared so much that she came back, but he would work those out at a later date... for now he was just going to deal with getting her settled into new job.
He poked his head into where Elana and Marta were finishing lunch. Mata cocked a questioning brow at him. He simply nodded, pulling his head back to avoid her seeing his grin. Marta smiled, shook her head and reached and pulled on the bell-pull for a maid to come get the lunch dishes. ********** Noel hurried down the steps and towards the front desk, where Jack was still waiting, though he was picking his teeth with a claw, apparently having just finished his own lunch. Noel brushed past him to the papers behind the desk, looking for the sheet of duties for the day that Maria said she had left on the desk. Where is it? Noel shuffled hurriedly through the papers, glancing up as Myles opened the door for Viviana. He stopped a moment in his search, a bemused look on his face. It never ceased to amaze him that Myles, no matter how full his arms were, could open any door.
As Myles let Viviana in, he motioned her towards the desk, where he could see Noel, as they appraoched, Noel was still looking for that paper...

When Myles held the door for her and then immediately directed her to the desk where Noel was now standing. The femme was reluctant to move forward, feeling very shy and awkward, but eventually her footpaws did what her brain told them to do. Viv ended up standing at the desk, giving Noel the most pitiful expression. She was feeling many things, those of which she would choose to keep to herself, assuming that she had made enough of a fool of herself.
The stunning Meerkat waited for Noel to finish what he was doing. It seemed like he was looking for something. When he would look up at her she would speak to him softly. "I'd be happy to accept a job. I wouldn't be any trouble. You'll never know I'm here. When I'm not busy doing secretary things I would also like to waitress a little or perhaps be a barmaid. I love to mingle with other creatures. It makes life interesting for me since I seem to be all alone here." Abruptly she stopped and gave him a sweet smile.

Noel didn't look up from what he was doing till he found the paper. Looking up, he felt his breath catch in his throat as he saw at Viviana. Clearing his throat, he straitened up the rest of the way holding out the paper to her as he did.
"Very good Miss Mist, but I believe you won't have much time left over for socializing." He walked around the desk one paw going to rest on his vest pocket as he did. Noel had reverted back to his normal, colder, persona that he used to keep beasts at a distance, she had already wormed her way far to deeply into his armor for his comfort.
"You see, as the secretary, you will be responsible for basically managing this place as soon as you the hang of it." He moved off a little bit, "You see I normally manage the Brick myself, but Rosferia has gone to war." He turned back to her. "I will be shipping out as soon as I get my orders, so I need somebeast I can trust too take care of my family, I have choosen Myles for that job, and somebeast to manage the Inn." He turned away again, so his face wouldn't betray the mixed emotions that he was feeling. He spoke over his shoulder to her, "Well, what do you think? Will you do it?"

She took the paper without thinking about it to much. What she was thinking about though was Noel. He confused Viv very deeply. At times he seemed warm but at other times he seemed rather cold. The fae just couldn't understand it. Was it her? She was beginning to think that it was.
He then informed her that her duties would encompass management of the Inn. Viv couldn't understand why the position wasn't labeled manager rather then secretary. Well either way it sounded exciting. Carefully she began to scan the list.
Noel spoke of war and being called to duty. The thought of war saddened Viv and she also wondered how Noel's mother would take his being taken away by the military. It must be a sad thing to see your son go off to war. It was even hard for Viv to watch it and she wasn't even personally attached to anyone going off to war.
Viv simply stood there as he spoke over his shoulder to her, questioning her about the job. She nodded happily. "I will take the job but who will train me?" She was kind of hoping that it would ne him.
