It was with great surprise that Monty actually found himself being dragged out of the moving carriage. Sveltlana reacted...but not quickly enough. She tried to make a swipe at Monty, but missed, and he tumbled out into the alleyway. Fortunately for the two weasels, Monty's cousin had not noticed this new development and kept on after the Bogginski carriage.
Rolling to a stop, Monty took a moment to regain his senses. It had all happened so fast....and by now the coaches were clattering away in the distance. Reaching a paw out, Montegu was able to pushing himself up to kneeling, his breath slowly returning to him. "What....might I ask was that?" He stated, breathing heavily. Everything was registering in his brain, and he finally put it all together.
He thought about this a moment. Sveltlana would be quite angry at him for this, and might do some nasty thing to him in the future....what a pity. He felt he had made strides with her today....or maybe not. If only that beautiful creature wasn't evil.....
Shaking his head, Monty rose unsteadily to his hind paws. "No....it's fine. I....I AM a weasel of my word though....and I do feel slightly bad and not showing Sveltlana the contents of the case...I never break my word after all....but admittedly...this IS better I think. This way she won't know what's in the case after all.....which is a good thing. I wouldn't trust her with this information after all. Did the case survive intact?" the weasel asked, his eyes searching Miri now.
"And of course....how are you? I don't think I have any broken bones. Bruises yes....but my skeleton appears to have survived." he said, retrieving his top hat from where it had fallen in the alley.

Miri shook her head, then set about picking their things up from the ground, her bag, his sword-in-cane, and finally the case that they had stolen from Spindrick. She pawed the cane over to Monty, but held onto the case as he didn't seem so steady just yet. She shook herself, as if she had just gotten out of a pond. "I'm fine boss, I might've bruised my shoulder from landing on that cousin of yours." She stretched the aforementioned limb. "Other than that, I'm good."
Now Miri turned her attention to the case she carried. "And I'm not going to make you not keep your word." She shrugged, then winced as she moved her shoulder, "I just thought that we should get the first look. Miri then held the case out to him. "So Boss, what do you think is in this thing anyway?"

"Hard to say." the weasel said, taking the case from her. "But I suppose we'll find out." His paws shook a bit as he undid the latches on the case. Easy Monty.....steady.....he reminded himself inwardly. No use getting all shaky and nervous....you got out of that situation alive after all.
Lifting the flap back, he peered inside. "Good heavens!" he exclaimed, pulling his snout back. "There are quite a few jewels in here....not all of the Crown Jewels of course but a good number of them. He reached inside, showing one particularly brilliant sapphire off to Miri. "Let's see...it's a good thing Sveltlana didn't get her paws on this." He dug around, bringing out several documents now.
"Looks like Spindrick was planning on running off with these....it seems he's been paid a large sum of money in order to perpetrate the theft but.....his employer's requested he bring them straight to him in order to resell them.....across the border to Gradvar?" Monty pondered this, his eyes moving away from the papers. "Gradvar.....why sell the jewels to Gradvar?" he asked himself quietly. It seemed there was a conspiracy apaw. But what sort of proportions did this conspiracy encompass? Monty read on.
"According to Spindrick's personal journal however, he seems to have had other plans. He was going to lead me on a bit of a chase...and then skip town, head back to Welkin with the jewels. Still....I wonder though......who is Spindrick's employer and why was he planning on selling the jewels to Gradvar? Hm.....Spindrick's hidden most of the jewels right here in town it looks like...there's a map leading to some building or other that he's crudely sketched out. Well...I guess we should turn the gems we've found over to the authorities...and begin snooping about this building. Would you be up for that then?" asked the weasel, sealing the case back up.
((I figure we could wrap this thread up soon and have them rest at the hotel, which leads into the Depose thread. After that's over and done with Monty and Miri could get back on the case.))

((Sounds good to me.))
Miri's eyes got large as she looked at the sapphire in Monty's paw, of that was just one of them, she wasn't sure what the others would look like, even better than that? Miri shook her head slightly listening to what Monty was saying, she didn't want to think about who Spindrick was planning on cheating, she just wanted a bath and her bed in the hotel.
She walked out of the alley to hail a pawsom cab, turning back to Monty when it pulled to a stop. "So Boss, are we heading to the police first or to the hotel and talk to the police in the morning?"

"Morning I think. A hotel right now sounds good...we've been all over the place. Besides...plenty of time to get these jewels back to their rightful owners. I'll need to get a list too of all the jewels in the collection to make sure we aren't missing any when we find the rest." the detective said, closing the case back up.
He could do with a rest. He was sore from having fallen out of the carriage and being chased through the gardens. He would crawl into bed, get a good night's rest and continue the case in the morning. Spindrick wouldn't find him after all...Monty was considering staying at a few out of the way places. The Chatelet had crossed his mind, as lodgings WERE available there...but that place was just a bit too gloomy even for him.
Stepping out of the alley and making sure neither Spindrick nor Sveltlana were around, Monty led the way towards a few hotels he had seen on the way in. No Chatelet for him tonight......maybe later as the case deepened, but right now he wanted REAL accommodations.
