Luxe felt a smile grow as he watched the interaction between the two beasts outside. His smile grew even more when he saw Ladoraks reaction to finding his own name on the band. Good, that was why he sent the lad out to him and didn't buckle it on himself. He went back to cleaning up when the two beasts headed towards the door.
Luxe made his way over to where he kept his drinks. "I don't keep ale at the house." He said as he came back with a pitcher in paw, 'I developed to much of a taste fo it some years back and I don't like to keep any close to paw." He smiled and shrugged sheepishly, "Will cold tea do?"
He set the cup and pitcher on the table between him and Ladorak, letting him poor so he could have as much as he needed. "And don't worry 'bout the dummy." Luxe removed a wooden practice sword that he hadn't finished yet, "If it wouldn't hold up to that practice sword after you got it going, it wouldn't hold up to the weighted ones I use." He showed the hollow sword to them. Placing it back where it belongs, he took a cup for himself "what did you think of the dummy?"

"Yes cold tea will do fine." Ladorak said somewhat hoarsely, his breath having not fully returned to him yet. He smiled in a weary fashion, and gratefully took the pitcher to pour himself a drink. So long as it wasn't water.....
Gulping it down, the stoat was grateful for the cold fluid. Cold suited him just fine, even if it altered the taste just a bit. Sighing gratefully, he poured himself another glass, this time planning on taking this one a bit more slowly. He offered Caden a glass, but the marten stuck out his tongue and grimaced. He didn't like tea.
Smiling, Ladorak began to work on his own drink. "I can understand the no ale. See I can't completely swear off alcohol. Unfortunately, because of my malaria, I need gin and tonics to keep it under control. The tonic water has quinine which treats the disease, and well it's so bitter that it needs gin to flavor it up a bit." he took a sip, pausing as he listened to Luxe's question about the dummy. Fortunately, malaria was not contagious from beast to beast, and the only real way to get it was from mosquitoes that carried it, so Luxe and Caden and anybeast else who came near Ladorak had no risk of catching this life-long disease.
"Well I think had I conserved my strength and energy the dummy wouldn't have broken like it had." Ladorak said with a shake of his head. "I....liked it. It's been awhile since I've used one in all honesty. Trained like heck with them back in the day growing up on Sampetra, and even after I left I made use of them from time to time, but after washing up in the Imperium I stopped." shrugging his shoulders, the stoat stirred his drink a bit with a claw and pondered this. "It's probably been a good ten years or more since I last used one. It felt....well good. I really need to get back into shape. I was out of breath by the end of that....not a good sign for a stoat of my age." he said, cracking a smile now and laughing lightly.
He'd just turned 34 a few weeks ago, but didn't feel a year older. Pretty soon he'd hit that big three-five, and he wanted to make sure he was in top physical condition by the time he arrived there. 34....he certainly didn't feel it. He felt more in his late twenties, but those days were past. Caden would be 13 soon as well, nearly 20 years younger than he was. The kit had so far to go and so much to learn on his life path, and Ladorak wanted to be there to act as much of a guide and perhaps even a father as he could. The early teen years could be a scary for a kit not prepared for it, and Ladorak wanted to ensure Caden wouldn't be blindsided by it all.
Caden, for his part, was admiring the nice contrast of his white fur with his green leather collar. He was looking over the names on the gold plates, fascinated by the novelty of it all. Pretty soon, winter would be upon them, and Ladorak's coat would change as well to white....fluffy too if the past was any indication. His coat tended to get just a bit TOO fluffy in his opinion, but it really couldn't be helped. it was in his genes. Probably on his father's side. He'd never known his mother and his father had a pretty fluffy winter coat, so it probably came from him.
"How often do you use them Jal Calone?" asked Ladorak now as he shifted his bespectacled eyes up to his fellow stoat.

Luxe walked about the shop, setting up a few tools he would need to fix a plow head, and some scrap mettle for the bulets he promised the sheriff, when he heard himself being addressed, "Me?" He turned his full attention back to Ladorak and Caden, "I use the things whenever I can.” He grimaced a bit as he dropped a pair of tongs on the floor. “I usually used the one’s that Gaylor made, but he sent the blue prints so I can have them for myself.” Luxe placed the tongs on the workbench. “I intend to get several sizes of them an do some weapons training on the side because of the growing unrest, more and more beasts come asking for weapons,” He ran a paw across the top of his head, ‘And most of them could barely tell which end you hold…” he groaned a little bit at the end there. “One beast actually took the dirk then asked which end he was supposed to hold….!”. "Yes I noticed the unrest myself. If Rosferia captures Eastern Mordenz it means some of the Channel ports fall too....and that's a direct threat to Welkin as we all know." Welkin had long had a stipulation where Mordenz should never be occupied by a hostile naval power. It meant invading Welkin would be all too easy as the distance from Mordenz to Welkin was practically nothing.
"At any rate, yes...lot of green recruits piling in. I intend to do something about that....at least for the younger generation like Caden here." Ladorak nodded down at the kit. "I figure there's going to be a lot of kits in town who want to enlist as Midshipmammals when the time comes....if the time comes of course. If it does...I was thinking that perhaps I could start up some training sessions. Teach them basic combat and about life aboard ship. I don't see any harm really, and it'll help prepare the kits for some of the stuff they can expect out there."
"If you want....you could assist with the effort. What do you think?" Ladorak looked down, and then up into Luxe's line of sight.

Luxe paused in his preparations to listen as Ladorak talked. It made sense what he was saying, and judging from the skills he had displayed earlier, Ladorak would well suited for teaching more advanced creatures though it seemed he wanted to spend time teaching the younger ones how to do the basics. "That would suit me just fine Jal." He grinned and crossed the room "I was wondering on how I would find somebeast to help set it up and keep order." He thrust out a paw to shake Ladorak's happily.
"I don't think that I would be able to find a better beast to help than you." He looked down at Caden, "What do you think Caden?"

"Great! Excellent! We can get that started sometime in the new year, depending on how things go. I could assist down here if you want me to as well, as I have nothing but free time these days sadly. Worst part about being on shore leave is the having nothing to do part." he said, chuckling at this.
"Training?" Caden asked with genuine eagerness. "Yeah! Sure! Then I can beat that dummy up no problem...just like you." he said, giving a bit of a smirk as he gazed up at the stoat. Ladorak couldn't help but to smile back, but in a way that said Slow down there....lots to go. He didn't want Caden becoming flush with overconfidence and thinking he could take on the world...but Ladorak knew such a wish was impossible. Caden was 12...the world WAS literally at his clawtips. He'd think this way for some time, until reality set in, but that's why Ladorak wanted to be there for that, so that the kit wouldn't hit the ground too hard.
"Jal Calone, I have to thank you for watching Caden for the weekend. It allowed my new wife and myself to get some much needed downtime, and I intend to repay you by submitting your name to the Admiralty Board as a beast I want for my ship's Armorer. Well.....when I get a ship that is." the stoat said with a small laugh now, realizing he was at the moment still out of a job. He was certain it would happen though...especially with tensions escalating between Rosferia and the rest of the continent. "How does that sound? Fair compensation is it?" he asked, his smile growing now into one of sincerity and earnestness, as just the mere thought of being at sea set the mustelid's innards on fire.

"That sounds like more than fair compensation to me Jal Fugate." Luxe returned Ladoraks smile. "I think I will enjoy working with you Jal." Luxe went back to setting up for the rest of the day. He paused a moment and backtracked to Ladorak and Caden.
"I've got to get ready for work this afternoon." Luxe waved a paw towards the outside. "I don't mind if you go outside and work with the dummy, the undamaged parts that is," Luxe smiled as he said this, "Or if Caden wants to watch, he can stay, though it will get rather hot in here." Luxe waved a paw to them and to the front of the store as the first customer headed in. Soon he was busy enought hat he wasn't paying attention to most anyone.

"Well actually Jal Calone, I'd hate to bother you for your work. We'll be heading back. I've got some things planned for Caden anyways. I'll break out my chess set and teach him now to play."
"Really? You will?" Caden's face lit up at this. He really wanted to learn the game, and if Ladorak was teaching him well....that would be even better!
"Thanks again for watching Caden for me while I was gone Jal Calone." Ladorak nodded in Luxe's direction, giving Caden a look that the kit caught on to.
"Uh...oh! Yeah! Thanks Jal Calone!" running over to him from behind the counter, even if he was busy, Caden took Luxe's paw, gave it a grateful tug (though with Luxe's strength probably not much of one) and then traveled back over to Ladorak.
The stoat was thinking about how he could repay the blacksmith for his kindness....but knew he'd be putting his name forward right away for a position as an Armorer under him if he ever got a ship. "Come on then Caden...let's get back to the house. We've got things to do." Putting a paw on the kit's back, Ladorak led him out into the daylight, silently thanking Luxe again for all of his help and promising himself he'd get that recommendation out to the Admiralty Board as soon as he could.
END!
