"Yes." Kasal replied with a nod. "Captain Fugate is in command of this ship. He mentioned he knew you rather well from a long time ago."
He watched as Sieg stood on the deck now, getting out of the hammock. "Hmmm... a few more days. Your eye was rather badly damaged, so I want to make sure it heals properly before anything else. You're going to need to return here for a change of bandages every so often. I'd say once a day so I can get a good look at it. If you feel well enough to leave, then there's no way I can keep you in the sick berth." the marten surgeon said. "Just don't push yourself if you can't pawdle it." he pointed out.

"Captain Fugate is in command of this ship. He mentioned he knew you rather well from a long time ago."
"Yes." He merely replied, it was a grace to the surgeon as it was more of a statement than a question, it needed no reply.
He listened intently to the surgeon's orders and merely replied with,
"where is the Captain?" Siegfried needed to see him. A question had risen in his mind as to whether or not he was still in the navy and if the Royal Navy planned on giving him disciplinary action for "abandoning" his post. He figured not; once he explained to Ladorak. He knew he held his Captain's trust.

"In his cabin or working above us on the weather deck." Kasal responded, shrugging. "He'll be in one of those two locations. If you don't see him by the ship's wheel than he's probably in his quarters." was the explanation.
It was true. Ladorak would be filling out the never ending paperwork or supervising the ship near the ship's wheel, walking about and making sure the boatswain was doing OK and that the quartermasters were keeping the ship on course.
Kasal looked down at the ground, and then back up at Sieg. "I can send someone to let him know you're awake, though it would probably be faster to just head up there yourself and locate him." the marten stated.
As it stood, Ladorak was in fact by the ship's wheel, having some new instructions from Admiral Parker's flagship relayed to him from one of the ship's lieutenants. The monocled stoat nodded, and dismissed the fellow, then went back to monitoring the ship's progress and ensuring the quartermasters kept the ship well within the rest of the fleet and in the loose sort of formation Parker was keeping them in.
So... according to Parker, they'd be returning to Personza within the next few days or so. It didn't look as if the Rosferians would be coming out to do battle, but that wasn't surprising. Winter was fast approaching, and that was the down time for combat on both land and sea. Somehow though, Ladorak doubted that Admiral Jervis would be wintering the fleet.

Siegfried stood silently and took in the information, his expression never changing. Once the surgeon had said his piece, Sieg gave a salute out of thanks and pushed his way past close packed hammocks. He loved the sea but below decks, especially in the crew sleeping areas, always made him feel claustrophobic. Coming upon the extremely steep stairs, practically a ladder, he made his way up the couple decks to the main deck, pushing his way past rushing creatures who usually moved out of the way of the large ferret. A refreshing cool breeze blasted into his face as he emerged top deck, he stopped and took it in, eye closed and with a rare smile. The good sea air filled him with energy and soothed the pain in his eye as he took in huge lungfuls.
An angry shout from a nearby officer broke Sieg from his daze and surprised him as he realized the officer was addressing him.
"'Oy! Get back ta work! We don't pay ya to stan' around enjoyin' the sun!"
Siegfried did not really know how to react to the officer, as he really didn't have any tasks to be doing. He met the officer's angry gaze, gave a salute and a respectful, "aye, sir," and continued on to the ship's wheel on the quarterdeck (?). There stood Captain Ladorak. He received relayed orders from a lieutenant and then went back to his previous task of, well, being a captain. Standing in a spot on the main deck where Ladorak could easily see him and gave a sharp salute and stood still. He wanted to see his captain's reaction as he was still unsure as to how the Royal Navy viewed his disappearance.

Ladorak noticed Sieg standing there, saluting him, and standing as still as a rock. This caused the monocled stoat to smile now. He inhaled the salty sea air, the Mediterranean scents filling his nostrils and always giving him an invigorating feeling. He was little different from Siegfried in that he could never stay away from the sea for very long.
"It's all right, Sieg." Ladorak told him. "You're not in the Navy. Or at least not the Welkinite Navy. You don't have to salute me. You're my guest. When we get to Personza... we'll see about sorting you out there. I'm afraid we won't be heading back to Welkin for awhile though... at least not until this war ends." he informed the ferret.
He walked over to him now, studying his wounds with his one good eye, though of course his other eye swiveled as well. "I'm glad to see you mostly recovered." He stopped beside him. "What were you doing out there? And where have you been these past four years?" he asked, more quietly this time. He nodded at the first lieutenant to watch things around the wheel for now, and shifted his attention back to Sieg.

OOC>Remember that Sieg was in the Welkin Navy, he was a lieutenant on this very ship under Ladorak when he disappeared on a shore leave.
Siegfried relaxed from his tense position and pushed past more busy beasts as Ladorak called to him.
"I'm no longer in the Navy, sir," he asked, standing in front of Ladorak, a little puzzled. He had wondered about disciplinary action but he had never figured on a discharge because he was merely absent.
"And you'll always be my captain, sir," he added with an assuring nod. When Ladorak was finished with his inspection of Sieg he began to inquire of him as to why he had been absent.
"It was a strange twist of fate that you found me, sir. I thought I was going to die . . . still not sure I didn't," he added while gently touching the bandages that covered the searing pain that was his eye.
"I was a slave, sir."

Ladorak gave the ferret a sad look, and shook his head. "I'm afraid not. Any extended leave without explanation unfortunately results in a loss of commission. I'm sorry." he said softly. "Though... I don't see why you can't be reinstated." he added.
He gave a brief smile as Sieg said Ladorak would always be his captain. He chuckled a bit too. "No I can assure you you're alive. I've made it through the various combats of the past four years... not without injury but I've made it all the same. You're very much alive." the stoat said reassuringly, smiling again.
His face fell here though as Sieg mentioned he had been kept as a slave. "By whom?" he asked now. "The Barbary Pirates?" They operated to the south of here after all... but it may have been someone else entirely.
This of course caused visions of his own time as a slave to flash through his mind. Yes... all those years ago... he had grown up as one... Sampetra never left his mind. Of course, he hadn't been acting under his own will... Ublaz's hypnotic control had seen to that, but when Ladorak was at least awake and aware, he had always desired to be free. He was going to comment further, but waited for now, letting Sieg explain first.

OOC> Barbary Pirates? Sounds good. Anger flashed through Sieg as Ladorak mentioned the name; in the past four years it was really the only emotion he had felt. Day after day he had to suffer their pointless menial tasks, torturing him if he didn't follow through. His scar had been recently opened by a whip when he decided for the last time, he would NOT do as he was told. And so, with anger and hate as his weapon he broke free and sneaked out; not without a fight of course. Sieg's good eye popped open as he realized he was missing something. "Did you keep the lifeboat, sir?" He frantically asked.

"The lifeboat?" Ladorak asked, raising a brow. "Yes... we did... it's hanging from the davits on the poop deck... but it's very leaky and little better than driftwood at this point. We're probably going to cut it loose soon." he commented.
"Did you need something from it?" he asked now. "I respected your privacy and ordered it not to be searched. As our ship already has a full complement of boats, there's no room for it so we were planning on getting rid of it probably before we reached Personza." he explained. "It's hanging from the starboard davits." He motioned with his paw behind him now, showing Sieg his boat near the stern.

Siegfried rushed past him and began searching the contents of the life boat. He ripped the tattered covering off and he seemed frantic as his search seemed in vain. But, tucked underneath a seat was his prize he was searching for. Reaching in, and almost falling in, he retrieved a curious object, but one that Ladorak would remember well: the Liberator. A recent name granted to it after Siegfried had retrieved it from his captors and used it to escape. It was a double ended spear, slightly taller than Siegfried (who stood at a tall 6' which is unusual for ferrets) it's taxed and aged oaken shaft bore two deadly looking spear heads on both ends. Though the metal looked a little rusted and weathered, it only added to it's menacing nature. Closer inspection would reveal another curiosity: it seemed the old brass parts from a telescope had been used to create a lock and release mechanism. With a slight twist, Sieg could detach each half of the spear into two short spears which he could wield with deadly efficiency. Upon the brass, the word 'Liberator' had been scratched nicely in.
He detached them now. They whistled in the wind as he skillfully tested them, creating a deadly dance of wood and metal as they twirled in patterns around Sieg's head. The deadly shafts slowed to a stop and clicked back together as the ferret completed them with practiced ease. Leaning against the now whole spear shaft, he let out a sigh. He appeared tired, age and maturity replaced the curiosity and youthfulness that had shown so bright in his eyes four years ago.
"It's good to be free."
