Luxe looked over at him, smiling again at his eagerness. "Well the first thing that you need to do is run inside and grab my smaller hammer, and the small tub of grease thats on the wall opposite the fire." Luxe turned to the pile of stuff in front of him "I'll start working on this stuff."
Luxe picked up the first couple of pieces, sorting them by what part type they were. Metal studs went in one pile, long wooden arms in another, and finally he placed the base in the center, then put the next revolving piece on top. He gave it a spin, remembering the hours that he had spent getting whacked by the thing before he figured out how to avoid the long poles that would be attached to them after Caden got back with hammer and grease. He began to place the proper amount of metal studs next to their poles while he waited to move on with putting the main part of the dummy together.

Caden was eager to get started, and before Luxe had fully finished his instructions the marten was dashing off back to the shop. He ran through the grass rather rapidly, kicking it aside as his shoes trod a path through the yard and into the back of the stoat's smithy. OK.....hammer! There it was! The albino grabbed it and then searched for the bucket of grease.
Hmm...upon seeing it the marten took note that it was a bit too big to carry along with the hammer...but Caden really didn't feel like making two trips....and so maybe he'd improvise somehow. Looping the end of his long tail around the hammer (martens by far had longer tails than stoats), Caden was able to use his forepaws to pick up the tub of grease whilst carrying the hammer in his tail.
Stepping out of the shop, the dibbun moved much more slowly and purposefully this time. He didn't want to spill the grease, as he wasn't sure if Luxe had more and it would have wasted his trip. Finally coming to a halt in front of the partially assembled dummy, Caden set the tub down and then retrieved the hammer from his tail with his paws.
"Here you go Luxe....that's everything I think." he said, sitting down in the grass to rest for a moment.

Luxe smiled at the method that Caden had brought out the hammer, but chose not to say anything. He simply nodded his thanks to him, and took the grease, setting it beside where he would use it. He finished moving the studs to there proper places, letting the kit relax for a few moments as he finished preparing.
When he was done he turned to Caden, picking up the hammer has he did. "Caden, come on over here so I can show you what you can do." Luxe waited for Caden to join him before picking up the hamer and a stud from one of the piles.
When Caden joined him, he placed the stud on one of the holes that pockmarked the plank of wood in front of him. "It's pretty simple Caden," He said raising his voice a little over the banging of the hammer. "Just put the studs in the holes in the wood, while I set up the main part of the dummy." With that Luxe turned to his own job, putting the grease on the rotors and assembling the weapons that would be attached to to poles that would be swing around.

"Right....doesn't seem too hard." the marten acknowledged. Picking up the hammer from Luxe, Caden hefted it a few times. Yeah...he could do this....not a problem right? Secretly, he DID have a small fear of striking his thumb....but that wouldn't be a huge issue would it? He'd had worse...and speaking of worse....Caden finally DID remember that Luxe had broken his arm.
Gritting his teeth a bit in resentment, he tried not to let it get the better of him. It HAD been an accident after all....though Caden was too keen on "accidents." Well....only one thing to do...and that was focus on his work. No sense in getting bitter after all. Easy job...and soon he'd be able to vent his frustration on this dummy. The albino did not suspect there would be any tricks to this...
Hammering away, he got right to work, driving one in, then the other, over and over again. "So Luxe....if you COULD pick a job that you'd do on a warship....what would it be and why? I know blacksmithing is out..." was that even a word? Oh well....it was now. "But Ladorak said there's almost something for everybeast from any walk of life. For dibbuns it's an educational place as well as a vessel of combat...so I guess I'll get lessons in stuff like math and navigation and geography." the marten explained, be extra careful not to strike his paws with the hammer....it was probably his greatest fear right now.

Luxe worked quickly with the assembly of the various spinning pieces of the dummy. Listening with a one ear to all of Caden's questions. He waited till he had placed and greased the sixth and last tier of dummy, and had started to put studs in them with a quick rap of his paw, to answer him. "If I could choose a place?" Luxe paused to scratch his chin, considering the different jobs he knew came along with being on a ship. After a few moments, he picked up the completed pieces from Caden’s pile and put them in their joints.
“I think I’d go for a gunners position Caden, does the most damage to the other ship, and I’d get to work with something I’m familiar with.” He said, “Caden once your done with those, come on over and I’ll show you how to secure them to the dummy.”

The routine was repetitive, straightforward, and slightly dangerous to Caden's paws, but the dibbun was careful not to whack himself with the hammer. It's easy....just get into a rhythm, he told himself over and over again. It WAS sort of annoying though because he had to swing his hammer with his left paw, the arm he wasn't good with. His good arm, the right one, was the one that had been weakened by the break. The albino found he just had to go slower than normal and be extra careful not to smack himself.
"A gunner? That sounds like something I'd want to do to. Ladorak mentioned I'd be part of a mess....and each mess consists of a gun crew. Though what I'd be doing well...he didn't specifically say." Caden finally finished, and shuffled back on his knees a bit to admire his work.
Not bad for a kit who's one forearm was recovering. Yeah...not bad at all. Standing up, brushing his forepaws off and nodding, he began dragging (not carrying as he wasn't sure if his arm could take that) the pieces he'd worked on over to where the stoat was standing. "Here...." he said, depositing them close to the dummy. He was a bit uncertain still about all of this. The whole adjustment process...sometimes it was good....sometimes not.
"So.....I guess this thing is almost ready huh?" he asked, failing to conceal a smirk that spread on his features as he thought about the possibility of finally being able to use a weapon again.

Luxe didn't miss the smirk that crossed the kits face. 'Hmm, I don't think he will find it so easy as he thinks.' Luxe picked up the last piece for the top tier. “Caden do what I do for that bottom tier.” Attaching the poles was very easy, they only needed to be screwed in securely so they wouldn’t fall out.
He turned to go fetch the gloves that were needed. “I’ll be right back Caden.” Luxe headed into the smithy. He built up the fire again and grabbed two sets wooden/leather gauntlets that would protect his and Caden’s paws from being to badly pummeled by metal studs that added weight behind the spinning wood.
Luxe headed back outside with the gauntlets, but walked past Caden and the dummy, instead he walked over to a rack that contained lots of practice metal and wood weapons. Selecting two small wooden clubs he called over his shoulder “Caden, once your done over there, head on over here!”

Caden set into the poles, screwing them around until they were in place. He moved quickly, eager to get started. Perhaps he could show Ladorak what he'd learned. Despite knowing that sword fighting took years to master, Caden was impatient to learn all there was to know in just a few days. His young mind was filled with such thoughts of battling rogues on the high seas, fighting off enemy boarders, leading daring shore expeditions into enemy forts, and other such things as these.
The albino was overly enthusiastic, that much was for sure. He didn't realize it woudl take time, and plenty of patience. He turned things over in his mind while Luxe went back into the forge. Oh the things he could do! No beast would dare mess with him in the streets after all of this! He was already formidable with his paws, and could take most kits his age in a fight. He fought dirty too, showed them no mercy until they were on the ground. He'd beaten up several in the streets of his home, but this....well was different. He couldn't just go around living like that any longer.....as much as he'd hate to admit that.
He heard the stoat blacksmith calling out his name, and his head shot upright, his pink eyes swiveling over to where Luxe was calling him. Alright! It was about time! Standing up and brushing some loose blades of grass off of his clothing, the marten trotted over to where Luxe was standing. His pink eyes gazed rather greedily at all of the weapons on the rack. "So....which way can I take? All of them?" he asked, his gaze shifting from first one to the other and all the way down the line. But which one should he take? There were so many of them and Caden wanted to try them all out.

"All of them Caden?" Luxe shook his head as he pawed one of the small, rather unimpressive looking batons over to Caden. "You won't even be using one of them till you get used to protecting yourself with your paws." With that, Luxe headed back to the dummy. "Caden you can't even use a knife till you know which end is the handle.” He spun the top two spheres, beginning to block them as their revolutions increased. “No matter the weapon, you have to start with the basics.” Luxe grunted as he hit them, "If you don’t have the basics mastered you can’t do… OW!” Luxe jumped back from the pole, waving his aching limb. Drawing a breath through clenched teeth, he continued “Like I was saying, you can’t do squat.” He rubbed the limb. “Also you can’t do anything if you forget to put the forelimb guards on…” he admitted ruefully.
Walking back over to where he had put the gauntlets down, he picked up the larger pair for himself, but attached two small pieces of hard wood to Caden’s before he gave them to him. “Here, put these on then you can have a go at the spinning dummy yourself, as long as you promise to be careful.” Luxe reached up and rubbed his head, grinning sheepishly, “I think Jal Fugate would seriously consider killing me if I got you hurt again…."

Caden could hardly believe his rotten luck. All he got was a worthless truncheon!? Why could he have a blade!? That would be far better than a stick! Dragging the truncheon along the grass behind him in a dejected manner, he watched as Luxe twirled the dummy around, and then inwardly gloated a bit when he saw the stoat get hurt. Served him right for giving me such a low level weapon....
"Heh...yea...he might very well." Caden said in response to Luxe's statement about Ladorak. He proceeded to put the guards on, looking up at the dummy with a burning intensity. He raised the truncheon, ready to lash out and beat up his opponent. But wait! He stopped at the last minute.
"What's the trick?" he asked, looking at Luxe with a raised brow. "I've never used one of these before so what do I do?" he asked, sure that Luxe had been trying to bait him into doing something....but what exactly it was the marten wasn't sure...and wanted to use his head first and foremost.
