Let it be known that today, August 17th, many new events have taken place within the nation of Rosferia. Citing extreme unrest with the monarch, King Augustine XVI, the citizens of Cosnair rose in revolt on the early morning of August 10th. Moving swiftly, they seized the Arsenal and City Hall and established the Commune as the de facto government of Cosnair. Mayor Jerome is said to have supported the movement.
After moving on the King's Winter Palace, Augustine apparently lost his nerve and deserted his residence for the Legislative Assembly, which has shrunken to a mere ghost of it's former self with barely 100 of the original 745 members in attendance. Neglecting to leave orders behind with his elite Scarlet Guard, a misunderstanding arose and shots were exchanged. It soon involved a pitched battle between the insurgents and the Scarlet Guard, who were heavily outnumbered in the engagement.
Fighting valiantly but running out of ammunition, many of the Guard lost their lives and out of a total of 1,000 that went in that night, only about 350 made it out, and all surviving members have now become prisoners of the nation, where they will await trial for their role in firing on the crowd. Demands to the Legislative Assembly have been at long last granted, and Augustine's powers as monarch were suspended, pending his trial to be set at a later date. He and his family have been imprisoned within the Temple, and ancient tower in the heart of Cosnair.
Also in accordance with the wishes of the populace, the Legislative Assembly will dissolve itself on September 20th in favor of a new National Convention that will meet in order to draft up a new Constitution for the nation. The elections for this Convention will be held August 27th, and those interested in running for a seat should do so that date. There are no bars in place on who can vote and run save for currently incarcerated criminals.
On this date was enacted a new judicial body by the new Minister of Justice, Otto Kurtz. Acting on ideas of Milton Dragonis, the otter Minister has set up what he calls the "Revolutionary Tribunal" that will act as Rosferia's new judicial body, abolishing the Royal court system that was in place before. All criminals of the state will be tried before this new body of judges. It is rumored this body will also try the King as well, and if not then the new National Convention most certainly will.
This new body removes the cumbersome and top heavy system that was in effect before this, and it is expected to streamline trials in the future.
As for foreign reaction to the uprising, King Frederick II of Gradvar has expressed outrage and has traveled to the border where his cousin, Duke Ferdinand, is still working on building up his army for the invasion of Rosferia. The ferret monarch is now purportedly exerting great pressure on his cousin to move with all haste into Rosferia in order to deliver Augustine back onto his throne. Preparations have been observed in the Duke's camp and we shall keep you apprised of any new developments....
