Let it be known that today, August 27th, 1792, marks the date of the elections to the proposed National Convention, the new legislative body that will replace the Legislative Assembly on September 20th and begin drafting up a new constitution for Rosferia, among other things. Many prominent beasts are turning out to run for this new body including Milton Dragonis, Paul Cutter, Brissoe, Camille Demarche, and Otto Kurtz, who has subsequently stated that he will resign his post as Minister of Justice if he does get elected to the National Convention.
All citizens who wish to participate in the voting, the polls will be open from 10 AM to 5 AM on this day only. All citizens who are running have previously placed their names on the ballots and will be voted for on this day only. There is NO restriction on who can cast a vote save for those incarcerated for crimes against the state. There is room in the National Convention for roughly 700 to 800 beasts, similar to what Rosferia had in the Legislative Assembly. You are encouraged to go out and cast your vote today!
The invasion of Rosferia has been progressing at a slow rate. It appears that Duke Ferdinand is not a great supporter of King Frederick's plan, but the Gradvar army has been advancing nonetheless. Last weekend the Gradvar forces arrived at the border fortress of Longwy, and after a short artillery bombardment of two days, forced the fortress's capitulation. It's commander was suspected of having royalist sympathies, but once again Gradvar has taken this fort in the name of King Frederick II and not King Augustine XVI. Wanting to set up shop in Longwy, Ferdinand was instead pressurd by Frederick into beginning a slow advance upon Dumont, which the Gradvar Kingdom currently holds under occupation.
Ferdinand supposedly wants to wait until his heavy siege artillery arrives before marching on Cosnair, but King Frederick insists they hurry, as he doesn't want to jeopardize Augustine's life with delay. For Rosferia's part, all citizens who are not currently enrolled in the armed forces are being encouraged to enlist promptly in order to turn the invaders back. General Kellerman with the Army of the Center is still in place blocking the Cosnair road, and General Duross, the new otter commander of the Army of the North, is vigorously training his army preparatory to marching to join up with Kellerman and take overall command of the situation. General Luckner, commander of the Army of the South, has subsequently been fired for his retreat from the Calgary border and will be replaced with a more capable commander in the days ahead, as Rosferia still has it's eyes set on an invasion of both Calgary and Mordenz since they are both under Kostritz protection and freeing them may garner foreign support for Rosferia.
The War in Defense of the Constitution has taken a startling turn for the worse for Kradowska. Kradowska's own monarch, despite holding his own with defensive military victories against Delorn, has suddenly switched sides and has gone over to the Empire of Delorn's camp, stating he does not wish to fully see the spread of democracy within his own kingdom. Delorn, as you may recall, had invaded Kradowska at the request of it's nobility, who were growing concerned over their loss of power in the constitution. The King of Kradowska was thought to be in support of the new constitution, but relatively recently he surprised everyone by switching camps.
The Kradowska armies are now rather disheartened and resistance is collapsing everywhere along their defensive line. The fact that King Frederick II of Gradvar, with whom they have a military alliance with, has done nothing to aid them during Delorn's invasion has also been a blow to their morale, and it is doubtful if Kradowska will continue to resist Delorn for much longer.....
There seems to be great unrest within the streets of Cosnair itself as the Gradvar Army continues to inch it's way closer and closer into Rosferia. There are talks of the incarcerated Augustine plotting with the invaders, and many citizens want to do something about this invasion. Plans for emptying the prisons of Cosnair in order to execute royalist prisoners has been going around on the streets, and the municipal authorities, in a state of upheaval due to the Legislative Assembly having lost much of it's power, is doing what little it can to contain the unrest. Things are expected to stabilize once the National Convention takes over, though that is still some weeks away. As always, we will keep you apprised of current events.....
