"Ah yes....you're right, we should." He said, standing up with her. Shame.....he wished they DID have time to just relax and chat....but sadly it was not to be.....at least not on this trip. Perhaps on the way back to Welkin though...
"First question is easy. They all are in fact. I started 6 years ago, at the age of 19. I was quite a young jack you see. As to why I'm one well.....ahem. That question is...interesting." He seemed almost like he wanted to avoid it, but he gave her his answer nevertheless, looking ahead and to the side, but not at her. "I was born into a noble family that stretched waaaay back. Back to medieval Welkin. My ancestor, Sylver the Outlaw, was made Thane of County Elleswhere by who was then Prince Poynt. Because of his ennobling, my family line gained a Welkin Peerage as time passed, and it was pawed down through the generations for me to inherit. As to what my actual title was well.....I think it's way more fun for beasts to guess than to tell them, heheh." he said, cracking a smile now.
"Anyways....I decided noble titles and all that rot weren't for me. I put in a request to his Majesty King Jeremy Poynt III, who was more than happy to strip the Sylver family of it's noble status....the Poynts were never huge fans of the Sylvers you see, as my noble title was given to my ancestor only with great reluctance for saving the Princedom back then, and I instead asked to be given the title the 'Right Honorable,' as that still allowed me access to distinguished clubs like the Jumping Jacks, and beasts still show you respect." he explained. "Right Honorable is more than enough for me. I only use those clubs to get information anyways. I have my own personal fortune to keep me going, as well as any kits I may have.....though that of course is something I've never yet thought about." he chuckled now, picturing himself with an actual family. It just seemed so alien, so foreign to him!
"As for what I like most....I suppose the thrill of it all. It's really the only thing that exercises my mind to the point where I'm never quite bored and gives my life meaning. I suppose....I suppose it's just what makes me complete you might say." he said speculatively. "Solving mysteries, getting involved in high thrill capers....it's what I always wanted to do growing up, and well, I did it. Gave up my title, became a free lance detective, and still manage to serve my country as well. It's a good deal....at least for myself." he said, in a somewhat pleased manner. He wondered if she'd just think of him as some cavalier jack who gave up something great in return for something that seemed just strange and off the beaten path.
Or maybe she'd approve? Probably something in between. He just....lived how he wanted to live. He helped others and didn't care if they approved or disapproved of his way of life. Heck the former Chief of Muggidrear Police turned Prime Minister considered him a vigilante after all, and King Poynt didn't always see eye to eye with him, but they tolerated each other. Ah well. Such was life.

Miri watched the beasts as they passed them. Keeping an both her eye’s and ears open was becoming a challenge as it grew increasingly noisy as they entered more populated area’s. She considered what Monty had said, being a detective for the sake of it, she rubbed her bruised limb and traced the pockmarked area’s on her forelimb from the incident with the roses… This life was most defiantly not boring. He was rich!? You’d never guess that by looking at his rather cramped apartment. She barely contained a snort at the remark about kits.. “You’d need a bigger apartment to have a family Boss..” she muttered, not sure if he would be able to hear her over the surrounding din.
“Not a bad reason Boss,” She looked at him, “You get to get the smart baddies off the street,” She spun in a small circle, looking all around them, checking to see if they had picked up any suspicious looking beasts on their walk. “And you have fun doing it.” she a gave him a small smile, but quickly returned to her normal face. “Sounds a bit like me, though I usually take out the beasts that have to much muscle in their arms, and not enough between their ears…”
After a few moments, Miri looked at him again. “Alright Boss, your turn. You still got a question swirling around in that big brain of yours?”

Fortunately, Monty had not heard that bit about needing a bigger flat for his kits, if he ever decided to have any. He was really against the idea right now. He was a roaming spirit, wild and free. A family would in all honesty just tie him down. He wanted to keep his way of life sacred and untouched through the years. It was just how he wanted to operate.
"Nope." he said, shaking his head as they continued walking. "I don't think so. We're getting close to the warehouse district though. Keep a lookout for any beasts tailing us." He instructed her. "I wonder though.....I wonder if Spindrick will be there now." he mused aloud, trailing off. He began running things through in his mind.
Up ahead of them, warehouses stretched out like giant tombstones, silent and unmoving. Ahead, a few blocks down though, there was a cart that was being loaded by a few burly beasts. They were stacking some crates onto the back, heaving and grunting the whole while and wiping their brows of sweat.
"Miri! That looks like our warehouse. I'm not sure though....Spindrick didn't have an exact address written down. See if you can find out what they're up to but BE careful. No telling who they are or what they're doing....though I have my suspicions." he said, narrowing his eyes. "I'm going to start snooping around that place....see if I can tell what's inside. Just watch your back." he said, splitting off from her and taking a slightly different route to the warehouse. He walked faster and more purposeful, and pulled ahead of her so that nobeast would suspect they had just been together.

Miri watched her boss disappear in the throng of beasts surrounding the warehouse. Find out what she could? Miri rolled her eyes as she reached into her bag, removing the brass knuckles, just incase. She sighed, here she was already getting ready for the worst, it just seemed to be the better part of wisdom while she worked for Montegu Sylver…
Miri made her way over to where a young street urchin was hawking papers. She bought one, pressing a few extra coins into the maids paw, winking at her and giving her a small smile as she sent her on her way, not wanting her to be around if it turned nasty. She leaned up against the wall, watching the beasts who moved about loading the boxes. Some of the beasts were clumsy, nearly dropping the crates. One of the beasts, seemed to be more clumsy than the others, and another seemed to be continually berating him, till finally he dropped one of the boxes, and paper wrapped bundles spread all over the street, luckily no one was traveling down the lane now. The one who was bossy now leaned down and began to beat him over the head with a stick he had found.
Miri dropped the paper into down into her bag. Rushing across the street Miri threw up a paw between the wood and the beast on the ground. “Hey you idiot! Stop that, he won’t be able to pick them up if you maim him!” The muscle head seemed to understand, he simply shrugged and grunted, heading back to grab another crate. Miri turned and smiled at the poor beast. He was only about 17 seasons old. “Hey kid, let me help you there.” Miri bent down and grabbed some of the things. They were pretty big. The worker whom she had rescued smiled at her. Thanking her with a nod as he too began to pick up the paper wrapped objects. She looked at him, wondering why he hadn’t spoken when she noticed a scar tracing his throat, the lad couldn’t talk it seemed. As she stood up again putting her armload of racks, at least that’s what they felt like, back into the box. She smiled and patted him on the shoulder as she left, pocketing one of the packages as she did so.
Miri made her way to the other side of the building, before she removed it from her pocket. She slowly unwrapped it, keeping it shielded from the beasts on the street. Bingo, she held in her claw a very fine ruby, pretty big too. Miri wrapped it back up, and dropped it into her pouch for safe keeping, or so she thought. By turning her back to the street, she did manage to keep the average Joe Shmoe from seeing it, but it also meant she couldn’t see the boss fox come up behind her…
Miri had just made to turn when she saw his red fur. “Hi there,” she said brightly, hoping against hope that she wouldn’t have to fight the guy, he was huge! “Hi,” one large paw out expectantly, “Give it back, the beast who ordered us to get it loaded wants all of them Miss.” Miri looked up at him, weighing her options. After a moment she looked back up at him, saying simply “No.” Just as she said this, she kicked him hard in the knee cap and took off around the third corner, yelling as she did “Boss!! I could use some help here!!” Miri didn’t get very far when she felt two large paws grab her. She felt her paws leave the ground and dangled like a child’s play-thing, she felt like kicking her legs just to complete the look. She huffed, blowing her bangs out of her face. “Oh, this is just perfect……”

Monty began circling the building, looking for possible entry points and areas where he could spy on the interior without being seen. Pressing flat against the building, the mustelid peered into a dusty window. Hmm....not really much to see in here. There were many large crates that mostly blocked his view...but wait a minute....that was Spindrick! Yes! His cousin was nearly unmistakable now, as he directed several beasts who were picking up boxes and bringing them outside. So....this must be where he was hiding them. He seemed worried...rushed.....probably because he knew his detective cousin had gotten his paws on his notebook. Alright....time to wrap this case up. Drawing his pistol, Monty slowly cocked it so as not to make too much noise. But from somewhere behind the warehouse, he could hear Miri actually yelling for him. Help? Quickly replacing his pistol, he moved away from the window and around the back of the warehouse, but couldn't see Miri. Drawing the sword out of his cane, the weasel quickly made his way around the backside and over to the opposite side of the warehouse that he'd been on. Ah! There she was....being bear hugged by that fox he had seen earlier. Moving silently so as to catch him off guard, the weasel pressed the sword tip into the nape of the canine's neck. "That's enough of that.....Drop her.....very slowly......" He ordered, authority in his voice now. The fox had gone from sneering to shocked. There was another one of them behind him? Doing as told, the fox slowly...carefully set Miri down...and then spun around, trying to lunge at Monty's throat. Succeeding in wrapping his meaty paws around the soft, vulnerable flesh that was Monty's neck. The fox's thigh exploded in pain as well as a gush of blood however as the weasel swiped with his sword, managing to break free of the choke hold and backing up, his sword raised and at the ready. A door suddenly opened from the side of the warehouse, close to where Miri was standing. A sudden gasp emitted from Spindrick Sylver, who realized his cousin had finally arrived. "They're here!" he shouted, charging out of the doorway and down the alley towards the cart. "Load up what you have and take off!" "Blast!" Monty hissed. "Miri! Go after my cousin! I'll handle Mr. Overgrown Fox here!" he ordered. Wishing it could be the other way around, Monty sized his opponent up. Though slashed...his opponent wasn't down. Well perhaps a few more strokes might do the trick...though Monty hated harming other beasts. He'd have to get this over bloodlessly if he could and follow after Miri at the earliest opportunity. He could see his cousin had a head start over to the cart.....and if he reached it he'd probably be off and clattering down the streets of Cosnair with what he'd managed to load of the Crown Jewels. If that happened....they'd have to somehow commandeer a vehicle of their own and go after him. Spindrick was huffing, running as fast as his paws could take him. Almost there....he was almost at the cart......less than 5 seconds and he'd be upon it. Monty, for his part, took a deep breath, and then swung his blade in a long, sweeping attack, hoping to frighten this bulky vulpine off so that he could join Miri..... ((Up to you Bookity about whether he makes it or not. )

Miri took off at a run, this time she was gonna catch that beast. He had proved enough of annoyance already. Spindrick did make it to the cart, but the cart didn't make it very far. Miri ran after the cart for a few yards, gaining on the relatively slow cart, pulling a very sharp dirk from a hidden sheath in her sleeve. As she drew even with the cart, she knew that there was only moments before it got up enough speed to outrun her. Spinning around quickly, she jammed the knife into the front left wheel hub than the back one as it came up on her, breaking them off. Pulling back quickly she watched as the cart tipped fell to its side, crippled an unable to move... but the beasts inside weren't.
Miri saw several of them spill out as it went down, two had been on the front seat, one in the middle and two more hanging on the back, counting Spindrick. And most of them looked like they spent waaayy to much time down at the wharfs loading cargo ships. Miri paused, counting them again, were was that kid that had dropped the box? Just then she heard someone clear their throat. She spun, pulling the dirk up as she did, only to stop when she saw him. "Oh, there you are." She smiled when he offered her her brass knuckles, they must've fallen from her pouch. "Thanks." He stepped up, slightly in front of her.
Miri didn't have time to process the fact that she had a new ally when she remembered Spindrick. There, she spotted him, he still seemed slightly of his feet. "Spindrick!" she forwent her normal courtesy to make sure she had his attention. As he turned towards her, she let fly with the dirk, hit him square on the forehead with the heavy metal pommel. "Stay Put!" 'For once...' she finished in her head as she turned back to were two of the loaders were converging on her and the kid... 'Great,' she thought "This is going to hurt..."

Monty was facing his own problems at the moment. "I don't have time for this." He murmured, ducking and weaving as meaty fists sailed towards the weasel and barely missed him every time. He swung his sword, eliciting a cry from the fox as he held one of his arms. Monty had scored a hit...but not a very good one.
Darting forward, the weasel tried to get around his opponent, only to be jerked backwards, the air cut off in his windpipe. "Ack!" he suddenly choked out. The blasted fox had gotten hold of his cape. Stupid things...capes that is, but Monty wore one mostly because the climate was colder here, and it was more of a trademark of his than anything else.
Flailing about with his arms, he knew he couldn't get a good shot in from this angle.....but what to do? The fox tightened his grip, sensing he could suffocate Monty into death. His eyes just about popping out of his head, the weasel tried to pull forward but only increased the constriction. He considered cutting his cape....but that would be hard as he couldn't see behind him.
And then....just before he felt his world spinning and his vision going black, the fox toppled backwards, dead. Released into precious air, his windpipe was once again able to gulp in the bountiful reward of breath. Spinning around, he saw blood seeping from the back of the fox's head, and Sveltlana standing over his corpse, her dagger tipped broach nearly blackened with blood. Narrowing her eyes at him, she walked past him disdainfully. "Now we're even Montegu....and I don't appreciate being double crossed either. I expect a full..."
"Yes, yes, Jis Sveltlana. No time now...thank you but.....I have to go catch up with the main fight. Coming?" he asked her, only to have the lemming shake her head.
"I don't play rough with the jacks....unless it's you of course." she said, smirking now. "Just keep in mind I'll be right behind you when you finish your business."
"Pity....I guess I'll have to endure the misery of your company a bit longer then." He said, shaking his head and rolling his eyes as he quickly ran towards the opening of the alley.....he had to get out there!
Spindrick lay groaning on the ground, his sight having ceased once his eyes closed and the only sensation he could experience being a throbbing, explosive pain on his forehead. One paw was on the bruise, covering his face. He was down for the moment, rolling over onto his stomach and trying to reopen his eyes.
Monty was able to arrive just in time it seemed. He leaped next to Miri, his sword at the ready and a determined look on his face. "Ready when you are Jis Talian. Oh and Sveltlana's around.....we'll have to deal with her after this is over I think but for now.....we've got bigger fish to fry." he nodding at the approaching loaders. "I'll take one, you the other.....provided that's alright with you." the detective stated gamely. He was ready....no more messing around....his cousin WOULD be stopped and then....they could go home. He was grateful for the help from the lad as well. 6 paws were better than 4 after all. Narrowing his eyes, Monty prepared to lunge into the soon to be fray....

Miri heard Jal Sylver come up behind her, 'Svetlana? Oh great... that's going to be interesting...' Miri didn't voice this though, she was trying to figure out which of the beasts in front of her she would get the kid to attack. There were two down, including Spindrick, one was down with his paw trapped under one of the carts. Of those left, one seemed to be smaller in build, but faster, she figured that she would take him, and that left the other two larger one’s to the kid and Monty. Miri waited for them to move forward and then engaged the smaller one. Feinting, she moved to attack him with one of her knives, and she was right, he was fast. Almost as fast as she, almost.
He tried to pull up a hard fist into her chin, and that would’ve put her down for a while, she avoided it, but caught his second punch to the chest. Pulling back, she feinted a right and spun to kick him the stomach, she missed, but followed through with her brass weighted fist and socked him a good one, cracking him in the chin as he fell. Good, that hadn’t been so hard. She turned, coming up behind the one that had gotten the young ferret in a dead hold. She managed to pull him up and off, causing him to fall down, trapping her leg under him. Before he could move, she punched him hard, just as the ferret lad kicked him from the other side. Both of them would have knocked him out, but together they broke his jaw, he was out.
Miri waved off the kid from helping her and wiggled her leg free. Standing, she headed over to were Monty was fighting, waiting to see if he needed any help.

Monty was adopting the preferred fighting stance of his friend Scruff. Best way was to duck and weave...duck and weave....duck and WHACK! The weasel went sailing back as a surprise shot connected with his chest. Fortunately, Monty had exhaled in time to avoid the wind getting knocked out from him.
"OK.....I'll have to revise that." he mumbled, running forward again. This time he unleashed an onslaught, not caring if he struck vital areas or not (but deep down hoping he didn't). Overhead, sweeping down from the right, and the in on the left, the wolf wasn't able to block every blow...and the blows he did block were with his arms, leaving gashes and cuts that began to tell upon him.
Spindrick meanwhile, was beginning to crawl away, barely conscious. He just tried to head away from the noise...away from the sounds of the fighting. Maybe he could drop down into the Trist River......onto a barge and make his escape. But where was the river? Unable to open his eyes at the moment, the weasel continued to move blindly forward, away from the sounds of the fight.
The wolf finally broke off a piece of the cart, using it as a bludgeon against Monty. He didn't want to use his arms anymore after all, for awhile, Monty was hard pressed. His sword kept getting stuck in the thick wood, and the wolf was jerking him about, swinging him this and that. Finally losing patience, Monty jumped into the air and kicked his hind paws out, digging into the surprised canine's stomach and knocking him back.
Managing to pull his sword out, the weasel chopped the block of wood in half and then held the sword up to the loader's neck. "No more of this.......down on your knees." the detective ordered, fed up. He could hear Sveltlana's smooth pawsteps coming up behind them now as she could see the coast was relatively clear. The loader's eyes went wide, and he slowly sank down to kneeling. "How are you Miri? Still in one piece?" he asked. He couldn't see her, and he wouldn't dare turn around. She was behind him, at the back of the cart, whereas he was on the left side. He could see Spindrick in his peripheral vision....but he'd be dealt with in just a moment. "Do you have a rope or something? I need to bind this fellow's paws."

Miri came up behind Monty. “Right here Boss.” Miri removed the rope from the back of the cart. “I’m still in one piece, a little bruised but one piece.” Miri said as she bound up the wolf’s paws, moving Monty‘s sword lightly as she tied the rope to his neck to immobilize them. “Hey!” She jerked her paw back, then smacked him of over the snout. “Bite at me again, I’ll break every tooth in in your mouth.” And she wasn’t kidding. To much had happened that early in the morning for her to be kidding.
After she finished up with him, she boxed him over the ears again, just for good measure. She looked around, spotted Spindrick, then walked over to him and yanked him up by the scruff of his neck. “Jal Sylver, please do us the favor of staying put for once in your life…” Miri half-dragged, half- frog-marched the weasel back over to where Monty and Svetlana stood. “Boss one mischievous cousin,” Miri tossed the paper wrapped package to Monty. “and one cart full of shiny rocks.” Miri stood, ready to support Spindrick if he fell, and nodded to Svetlana, in a semi-cordially manner.
