OK, so 1794 is almost over. We have entered the last month of the year today, and I'm going to be giving my preview a bit early this time.
We've had some rocky roads this year, both in our personal lives and on the site, but overall, I think the RPing was great, and overall, I'm still happy with it. We continue to shrink unfortunately, but I don't really mind. So long as I have a core group, I'm happy with whatever numbers we ultimately end up having.
The first big announcement I have is that I'm thinking of reopening up the Rosferian section of the forum, and getting our Rosferian characters back into things. The Revolution has pretty much stabilized for now, and the Reign of Terror is over, though the reactionary White Terror is about to begin. Things at least will be a bit more stable for Rosferia this year, and I was thinking why not? It'll be a chance to get old (and new) characters going, and might open up some more dynamic for things.
So what are we looking forward to for 1795?
Ferlusan, Gradvar, and Mordenz will all make peace with Rosferia, thus bringing the Coalition drastically down to just Calgary, Kostritz, and Welkin. With Steep's and Selvis's home nation making peace, it'll be interesting see the effect it will have on both characters. Mordenz will also be allying with Rosferia, and declaring war on Welkin, thus adding their navy to Rosferia's.
Speaking of Steep, Saumarez will finally be promoted to a 74 gunner! He'll be taking command of the HMS Orion, which Ladorak, Caden, Carrow and Selvis fought on during the Battle of the Glorious First of June in '94 (Duckworth is moving to the 74 gun Leviathan). He'll be engaged under Admiral Hood (the younger, Lord Bridport, not Sam Hood, Ladorak's mentor) in a fleet action in June with the Rosferian Navy off the Rosferian coast as part of a planned Welkin sponsored Royalist invasion of Rosferia.
The National Convention will FINALLY be dissolving itself as well in Rosferia, as they'll finally come up with a Constitution that satisfies the majority of the country, and will establish the Rosferian Republic's government, the Directory. However, before the Directory can take power, a Royalist uprising in Cosnair occurs, and it will be up to a young meerkat General of artillery to quell it, thus launching him into a meteoric career that will be on the constant rise from now on.
In March, the Rosferian Mediterranean Squadron will put to sea, looking to recapture Personza, as Ladorak's fears about Hotham are realized when Hotham withdraws the fleet to Livorno for the winter. Hotham must rush the fleet to sea to head off the Rosferian invasion, but who will triumph in the upcoming fleet battle?
Our gallant crew will be facing a second fleet action this year in July, when Ladorak is sent to reconnoiter the Rosferian coast, but ends up running into the entire Rosferian Mediterranean Squadron, which has put to sea to bring battle to the Welkinites in an attempt to quiet unrest which has been making its way through the fleet, and to "wash their crimes in the blood of the enemies of the Republic". The Agamemnon will have to beat a hasty retreat to the Welkinite fleet, and hope that Hotham is ready in time to face his second fleet action.
1795 will also see the end of Admiral Hotham by the end of the year, to be replaced by the tough as nails mink Admiral John Jervis. Will he be able to turn around Hotham's languishing fleet?
Militarily on land, there will be by and large stalemate as lack of supplies and negotiations with Kostritz prevent fighting for a good part of the year, though the latter quarter will see the resumption of hostilities, and a rather brilliant defensive action (coupled with treason by one of Rosferia's top commanders) by Kostritz that will so far keep Rosferia in check, but Rosferia will begin making gains in Calgary that could threaten the Welkinite position in the Mediterranean.
Exciting stuff, huh? Well that's a bit of a sneak peak of what's coming up, and as usual, I'm looking forward to the new year, as it promises to not only mark further great threads, but also some potential improvements in my personal life as well. Here's to 1795 turning things around!
