Everyone may notice that Proboards is one of the numerous online businesses fighting against SOPA and PIPA. For our international members, this is a not just a US concern. They're threatening international sites as well. There is a tab appearing at the top of your screen asking you to support Proboards in fighting SOPA. I myself have joined the protest, as I feel it a gross violation of freedom of speech in the US, something my country was founded upon. Keep in mind that if this passes any site can be shut down without just cause for "violating copyright policies" that are arbitrary and completely up to the law to decide, with no clearly defined outline of what violates copyright. Yes, online piracy needs to be combated, but I feel that SOPA & PIPA are too arbitrary and not the answer. The internet needs to remain free and open, as that's one of the things that makes it great.
A site like this could even be in danger, despite us making no profit off of it whatsoever. Sure, I could remove the whole Welkin Weasels/Redwall aspect of it, but ultimately, you can't, and NEVER could copyright names in this country. This bill not only threatens America's liberty, but it is a portent of things to come in other nations as well, which are considering similar laws.
You don't have to join the protest if you don't want to, but I clicked that tab and added my name to the many that are fighting this injustice. Whatever you ultimately decide to do is up to you. I'm taking a stand and joining Proboards, Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, and many other online businesses and sites in fighting back, and have proudly added my name to the list. I feel that freedom of speech must be protected here and elsewhere, and that it is my right to voice my concerns if a bill is unjust. I enjoy the freedom to do so like so many others here in the United States, and it is a privilege that not many other countries have, so I'm making good use of it.
