Well the last battle of the year has officially occurred, so I feel I can now write this year's results' post.
1795 was a pretty slow year, with not much happening in the war. Breakdown of victories are as follows:
Rosferia: 4
Welkin: 3
Ferlusan: 1
Kostritz: 1
The Coalition ekes out a narrow margin of victories this year, with them winning 5 as opposed to Rosferia's 4. Welkin once again surprisingly did most of the leg work for the Coalition, and all of those were naval victories of little overall significance.
Early in the year Rosferia continued its offensive into Ferlusan, capturing the border fortress of Roses after a lengthy siege. With the fall of their last border fort, Ferlusan sued for peace. They DID manage to win their only victory of the year however, a small naval one off Roses when a 112 gun ship captured a Rosferian frigate. However, it certainly wasn't enough to turn the tide, and Ferlusan made peace with Rosferia in the 2nd Treaty of Basel in July.
Gradvar also made peace with Rosferia in April in the 1st Treaty of Basel, and so did Mordenz at the Treaty of the Hague in May. Half of the Coalition was thus neutralized, leaving Calgary, Kostritz, and Welkin to carry on the war alone.
By mid summer, severe supply shortages had stopped Rosferia's offensive against Kostritz, and Rosferia instead settled into a very lengthy siege of Luxembourg City, finally capturing it in June, and wiping out Kostritz's last military presence west of the Rhine River.
At sea, Welkin went on to win a moderate naval victory off Genoa against Rosferia, capturing two warships and preventing the invasion of Personza by Rosferia. In the Atlantic, they also defeated the Rosferian fleet, capturing three ships off the island of Groix and landing a royalist invasion force on Rosferia's western coast. This invasion was handily defeated by General Lazare Hoche, and wiped out on the Quiberon Peninsula, thus neutralizing the naval victory.
Back in the Mediterranean, the Welkinite fleet once again encountered its Rosferian counterpart, and another small battle was fought. This one gained Welkin only one ship, and the rest of Rosferia's fleet safely withdrew into Frejus. Admiral Hotham's cautious nature was blamed for the lack of decisive naval victories in the Mediterranean this year.
Things finally picked up on the Rhine in September when Rosferia solved its supply shortage problems and went onto the offensive against Kostritz. The talented horned lizard Count Clerfayt however managed to successfully stop and defeat the two pronged Rosferian assault after breaking the Siege of Mainz and emerging on the west bank of the Rhine to split the Rosferian armies and eliminate their conquests of this year. Things essentially returned to the status quo on the Rhine, with neither side gaining any ground.
Finally, down in Calgary, Rosferia went on the offensive in November and broke the dangerous Calgarian and Kostritzer blockade of the Rosferian lines. General Scherer, acting on the advice of the young General Boneparte Lantzer in Cosnair, smashed through the allied lines at Loano and reopened his supply lines to Genoa, forcing the Kostritzers back into winter quarters at Acqui, and the Calgarians to take up position for the winter at the fortress of Ceva. Scherer did not follow up his success however, and no further ground was gained.
A lack of supplies has kept Rosferia relatively tame, though that problem is no longer an issue, and they plan to launch heavy offensives against Kostritz and Calgary next year. Rosferia also survived several royalist attempts to overthrow the republic, and they are now stabilized domestically once more. The Coalition did its part to contain Rosferia this year, but was able to do little else, as they weren't able to go on any real offensives this year, and thus, 1795 has proven a relatively fruitless year for both sides offensively, but Rosferia has at least knocked out half of the Coalition now.
