OK everyone, as promised, here's a brief rundown on the nations surrounding Rosferia. You can always refer to this for quick reference and they will be updated as statuses change.
Republic of Rosferia: The most populous nation on the continent with an area that makes it 3rd biggest. Its population is roughly 25 million inhabitants, with Cosnair having around 650,000 denizens on average. It has a long history of enmity with Welkin, but as of now the two nations are at peace. It recently won a war against Welkin that left it bankrupt and without an intact Treasury, one of the main reasons why the citizens have risen up in revolt and have overthrown the monarchy. The King has since been removed as head of the country, and a legislative body has taken his place. Rosferia's military is in disarray though still very large, as many of it's aristocratic officers are being purged from the ranks to make way for regular citizens to take command who would be less treasonous towards the new government. The Army is currently being reformed as is the Navy. The Navy's size rivals that of Welkin's, though it suffers from the same restructuring problems as the Army. The Navy, while it may not have as many warships as the Welkin Navy does, is categorized by massive, towering warships that boast armaments as high as the 130 gun range. Rosferia is bordered on the west by the Ceres Ocean, on the south by the Ferlusan Kingdom, on the east by the Calgary Alliance, the Empire of Kostritz, and the Kingdom of Gradvar, and in the north by Mordenz. Current Ruler: National Convention
Kingdom of Welkin: Welkin is a small island nation that has powerful natural defenses. Because of this, Welkin has been able to resist foreign invasions time and time again (though there have been exceptions). It has a proud history and though small in land size, has a population of around 9 million. It is known for its colonies that sprawl over the four corners of the globe. Due to this, much of Welkin's land forces are scattered here and there to defend the colonies, and because of that, Welkin's actual land army on the island could be considered almost laughably small. However, the kingdom makes up for it with an impressive and powerful navy, boasting the largest on the planet. Their naval crews have top of the line training as well, and it can easily be said that the best naval power on the high seas is easily found in Welkin. Their government consists of a constitutional monarchy, in which a King sits at the head of a parliament which makes the laws for the country. Welkin is bordered on all sides by the Ceres Ocean, but lies northwest of Rosferia, it's long time enemy which it is currently on neutral terms with due to the Revolution in the latter place. Welkin views the Revolution with interest, seeing it both an opportunity for Rosferia to adopt a form of government that they themselves have, and also as a potential downfall to Rosferia as well, which Welkin most certainly wouldn't mind. Current Ruler: Poynt III (stoat)
Kingdom of Ferlusan: The Kingdom of Ferlusan currently has around 10 million citizens, and is known for being a very old and archaic nation. Traditions abound here, and many consider this a handicap as Ferlusan has not modernized its government in a very long time, and still has forms of ruling that some would consider obsolete. There is a massive class distinction between rich and poor, with almost no beast holding the title of "middle class." Ferlusan's army is hopelessly outdated due to the wealthy maintaining a strong grip on the country's finances, but at the same time they have a fairly decent navy, as Ferlusan used to hold colonies all over the world the same as Welkin, and a strong navy was considered essential to maintaining this empire. While they have a large navy, their crews are very inexperienced and consequently the Ferlusan monarchy considers it more of a hazard than a help if the navy is ever deployed. Something of note though is that Ferlusan warships are very elaborate and heavily armed, and Ferlusan can claim to have the largest warship in the world under their command, a massive 140 gunner, unheard of on the rest of the planet. Ferlusan is bordered on the north by Rosferia, on the west by the Ceres Ocean, and on the south and west by the Cobalt Sea. Current Ruler: Schilder IV (common weasel)
Empire of Delorn: The largest nation on the continent, Delorn could easily be considered a continent itself due to its land size. With a population of 24 million, it is the second most populous nation behind Rosferia. It is unique in that it is ruled by an Empress, the only example of a female ruler on the entire continent. She is known as a very refined and "cultured" beast, and often acts as a mediator for the frequent wars that her neighbors engage in. With that said of course, Delorn is by no means a weak nation. It has a massive military, quite probably the largest on the continent, though quantity does not always equal quality, and while Delorn's army might have more than any other nation, it could be said that they are not as well equipped or trained as other countries. The Delorn navy is of a fairly decent size, though is rarely used as Delorn believes more in intimidating other countries rather than absolute warfare. They recently and successfully concluded a war with the Eastern Hordes. Delorn is bordered on the north by the arctic regions, on the west by Gradvar and Kostritz, in the south by the realms of the Eastern Hordes (which it is constant conflict with) and on the east by the western seas. Current Ruler: Catherine the Mink (mink)
Calgary Alliance: The Calgary Alliance is a loose confederation of several states that just can't agree to the extent of forming a nation, but CAN agree enough to band together for mutual protection. They have a population of 17 million currently. It's hard to describe them as they're made of mostly of merchant federations that join together to protect themselves from the rest of the continent, and are ruled by a Guild Council made up of the most powerful merchant guilds throughout the various states. Their main goal is to seek profit through trade, and they do not have a very large military, their army consisting of mostly volunteers and their navy being drawn primarily from fast corvettes and patrol ships to guard their numerous harbors. They rely primarily on Kostritz for protection, as they have a treaty with that nation to ensure stability and peace between the two countries. They are bordered on the north by Kostritz, on the west by Rosferia, and on the south and east by the Cobalt Sea. Current Ruler: Guild Council (various species)
Kingdom of Gradvar: Gradvar is GREAT! They have a GREAT ruler, a GREAT nation, and a GREAT army. They were founded by the amazingly awesome and powerful Frederick the GREAT. At least that's what Gradvar would like you to think. Gradvar in all seriousness, propaganda aside, is actually the youngest nation on the continent, being only about 2 generations old now. They were formed when said ferret Frederick was granted autonomy and lands from the Empire of Kostritz when Kostritz needed support in a war against Rosferia and Ferlusan. The deal was for Frederick to gain his own Kingdom in return for giving Kostritz military support, which he did, and with a population of 8.6 million, Gradvar hasn't done too bad for itself getting started. They stress military strength above all else, and their army is the strongest and best trained on the continent, though not the largest. Conscription is mandatory for all males in Gradvar between the ages of 18 and 25, and they are put through rigorous training to become the best of the best. However, they have no Navy, as being so young they have not had the time the other nations have had to fully develop one yet, and most of the budget goes to the Army anyways. Despite their past ties with Kostritz, the two nations do not traditionally get along. Gradvar's current ruler, Frederick II, lacks the military savvy has father had however, and his treasury is rather depleted due to his extravagant lifestyle, but regardless he likes to keep up the image of being GREAT to his neighbors. Gradvar is bordered on the north by Dazaria, on the west by Rosferia, on the south by Kostritz, and on the east by Delorn. Current Ruler: Frederick William II (ferret)
Empire of Kostritz: An ancient land that sprawls over most of the continent (excluding Delorn). They have always felt it is their holy and sacred right to rule their lands as has been set down since ancient times, and they are known as the center of culture on the continent. They have a decent sized military, but there's nothing really spectacular about them as they choose to remain mostly within their own borders, keeping it back for defense. Unlike the equally old Ferlusan, Kostritz HAS kept up with the times and is fairly modern in terms of technology. They don't have much a navy, and what little they do have supplements the naval defenses of the Calgary Alliance. They prefer to mostly keep to themselves, but have taken a concern to Rosferia's revolution, namely because Rosferia's King's wife is from Kostritz's royal family. Kostritz is known for it's stunning architecture, extremely popular music, and it's taste in fine arts. They have a population of 7.9 million. They are bordered on the north by Gradvar, on the west by Rosferia, on the south by the Calgary Alliance, and on the east by Delorn. Current Ruler: Francis (marbled polecat)
Mordenz: Smallest nation on the continent. Mordenz has been reduced to a protectorate state by Kostritz, which annexed it several years ago. It has a governor, but since said beast is always appointed by Kostritz, the citizens have very little say in the day to day happenings in their country. They are primarily a seafaring merchant lot, who love to sail and import goods from far off lands. Mordenz has a navy that's on par with Delorn's and Dazaria's in terms of size, and their warships are known for being speedy and fast. Their army is allowed to garrison Western Mordenz only, and are under the command of a Kostritz appointed Steward. Eastern Mordenz is garrisoned by regular Kostritz soldiers who are under the leadership of the Kostritz Military Governor. Their population size is 1.9 million. They are bordered on the north and west by the Ceres Ocean, to the south by Rosferia, and to the east by Gradvar. Current Ruler: None (under Kostritz occupation)
Kingdom of Dazaria: Another small nation but bigger than Mordenz, however they also have the smallest population on the continent at only 800,000, only 150,000 more than the population of Rosferia's capital. Their army is small and for defense only, but their navy is about the size of Delorn's and Mordenz's, and a fair force to be reckoned with. They are extremely important however as their land acts as a gateway for water borne trade to the Empire of Delorn, and consequently Delorn has always tried to maintain friendly relations with Dazaria lest Dazaria decide to use its coastal fortifications and navy to blockade Delorn. They're progressive and liberal, but still a monarchy. They're bordered on the east, north, and west by the Ceres Ocean, and to the south by Gradvar. Current Ruler: Skippernius VII (Otter)
