The opening blows of the war have been strucks, and in one aspect the Rosferian Army has demonstrated it's chaotic situation from the upheaval of the Revolution, and in the other was caught unawares by a swift (if not a little sloppy) advance by Gradvar.
Wishing to come to the assistance of King Augustine XVI as well as support it's ally, the Kingdom of Gradvar has hurriedly declared war on the Kingdom of Rosferia and gathered an army hastily on Rosferia's north eastern borders.
Shortly before this however, General Theobald Dillon was asked to lead the Army of the North forward against the Kostritz Protectorate State of Mordenz. Said general did so, but upon drawing close to the rather weak Kostritz border outposts, the beasts in line suddenly began to panic and started to shout out that General Dillon, an aristocratic noble, was leading them into a trap. Retreating at the first few shots, they proceeded to surrounding General Dillon, pulling him from his horse and hacking him to death before setting his corpse alight. Grand Field Marshall Elmdor had to ride to the front and begin reorganizing his troops.
Trying to take advantage of this mishap, the Gradvar Army began it's invasion of Rosferia under the personal command of Field Marshall Ferdinand, with nominal control falling to King Frederick II himself, who is personally accompanying his troops. Coming up against the border fortress of Dumont, the Gradvarian forces proceeded to lay siege to the town.
Initial demands for surrender were rejected by Colonel Nicholas Goodspeed, and a brief artillery bombardment was opened upon the fort. Goodspeed, in despair, shot himself and his heavily outnumbered garrison has surrendered. Rumors that the aristocratic noble Goodspeed willingly surrendered appear to be false, and the populace of Cosnair is asked to disregard these blatant lies.
A disturbing fact about the Gradvar occupation of Dumont is that they seized it in the name of King Frederick II and not Augustine, and Gradvar's designs on Rosferia are now brought into question. Duke Ferdinand has issued a manifesto stating that the towns his army marches through will not resist the occupation forces lest they be torched, and this has caused growing unrest on the home front, particularly in Cosnair. Why the usually mild-mannered Duke has issued this statement is still unknown.
Civil unrest is growing daily in the capital, but as of yet Gradvar has stopped at Dumont. Word of severe disagreements between Duke Ferdinand and his cousin King Frederick abound, and this might account for the delay in Gradvar's advance. Rosferian high command is using the opportunity to concentrate both the Army of the North and the Army of the Center against Gradvar's invading army. If these two forces combine, they will outnumber Gradvar's army by about 10,000.
To expedite this, Minister of Foreign Affairs Duross has been given a generalship and has been dispatched to the Army of the North. Field Marshall Elmdor's loyalties have been brought into question as rumors abound he is trying to make a secret deal with Kostritz in which Kostritz will not enter Rosferia if he marches upon the capital and restores the King to full powers. General Duross intends to deal with Field Marshall Elmdor if indeed his loyalties to the Assembly are questionable. In the meantime, General Francis Kellerman of the Army of the Center has been instructed to hold his position and block the road to Cosnair until the Army of the North arrives, either under Eldmor or Duross.
Public outcries for the overthrow of the King are growing daily, and threats to storm the King's palace and punish him with death if Gradvar advances any further are being made by various factions throughout the city. The Cosnair Commune has called frequent meetings, and the Legislative Assembly is rapidly losing it's grip on the situation. Many of it's deputies are fleeing, and the ones that remain are too few in number to get much of a vote on anything through. Calls for their removal as well deposition of the King in favor of a true republic are growing stronger than ever now, and palace security is being tightened in expectation of the citizens making good on their threats.
Citizens are advised to not panic and to go about their daily lives.....Rosferia's borders may have been violated, but as of yet the enemy has not advanced very far....
