Today, June 18th, 1792, has been a most shocking day in the history of the Rosferian nation. Several sweeping changes were made in the King's cabinet and tensions are reaching a new boiling point now between the Assembly and the King. Several things have transpired today that lend itself to the rise of tension and the uncertainty of the future.
The first and probably least impressive event that occurred was a meeting between King Augustine XVI and Field Marshal Gilbert Elmdor. The hedgehog general had traveled from the front lines to the capital in order to make a plea with the King that he dismiss his radical Jacobin Ministers and to appoint him as head of a military force that would combine with General Luckner's army and the National Guard to suppress by force the Jacobin and reactionary clubs around the city in order to preserve the constitutional monarchy.
Elmdor, who already has various rumors circulating around about him, was met with distrust on this plan by the King. Elmdor it's been said has supposedly spoken with the Kostritz governor of Mordenz and offered a deal in which Kostritz would not enter Rosferian lands if Elmdor was permitted to march his army upon the capital and restore the authority of the King. Elmdor had fervently denied these rumors and has insisted that he would only use his military for the suppression of the Jacobin factions and the upholding of the 1791 Constitution.
On the other paw, the King suspects Elmdor of wanting to plan a coup d'etat in favor of himself by being given command of this exceedingly large military force in order to "keep the peace" and dismissed Elmdor's offer and told him to return to the front lines and do his job of preparing the Rosferian army for the invasion of Mordenz and dealing with the Gradvar threat. Elmdor pleaded with the King to grant his request but the only thing the King agreed to do was dismiss practically his entire Cabinet of Jacobin Ministers but drew the line at Elmdor taking command of his own force, the National Guard, and General Luckner's army.
The second event is news from the frontlines, though admittedly not of Rosferia's frontlines but those of Kradowska. The War in Defense of the Constitution has drawn first blood when a small Kradowska force managed to win a defensive victory over the advancing Delorn forces. General Josef Poniatowski, brother of the King of Kradowska managed to trounce an advancing Delorn column and completely push them back, a rather unexpected beginning to the Delorn invasion of Kradowska. General Krechetnikov, the Grand Field Marshal of Delorn's invading force, was a bit surprised by the setback but pledges to continue the advance on Kradowska's capital. King Stanislaw of Kradowska of course has stated that his nation will resist all attempts at Delorn interference and that the Constitution will be upheld. The situation in Kradowska will be monitored for further updates.
Finally, the biggest and probably most fractious event occurred this morning when the King of Rosferia, in a flurry of decisions, not only vetoed several important proposed laws but brought much of the Assembly to an uproar. Three decrees were brought before King Augustine this past week. The first called for a suspension of state stipends to all priests who have refused to take the oath of allegiance to the new government. The second dealt with abolishing the King's Constitutional Guard, long seen as a drain on the country's finances, and the third dealt with creating an armed camp of 20,000 National Guard around Cosnair in order to protect it from foreign invasion in the weeks ahead.
King Augustine was willing to part with his Constitutional Guard since he already has the world famous Scarlet Guard working for his safety anyways, and abolished the Constitutional Guard this morning. The Scarlet Guard is an elite force of 1,000 foreigners (thereby removing them from the line of succession and not keeping them tied to any connection to political intrigues in Rosferia) who have devoted themselves to protecting the King's life and currently guard his palace in the city. They are seen as more than sufficient protection for the Royal Family and thus the Constitutional Guard was done away with.
However, the King refused to sign the other two laws, vetoeing them both in one quick move that brougth the Assembly to a cacaphonous uproar. Suspicions that the King is collaborating with Emperor Francis and King Frederick of Kostritz and Gradvar respectively run rampant now, and it's feared that the King refused to sign both of these laws because he expects the foreign armies to triumph and restore him to the throne.
Minister of War Duross, the only remaining Minister that King Augustine has not fired, resigned out of frustration and protest today at the King's unwillingness to work with the Assembly in creating a safer Rosferia. He informed the King coldly that he would have to find somebeast else and walked out to join General Luckner's army on the front lines, saying he had wanted to serve as a military officer anyways rather than Minister of War.
Discontent is on the rise in Cosnair now and the Commune has issued a call for a mass demonstration to be held before the King's Palace in order to get him to drop his vetoes and start working with the Assembly as well as to recall his Ministers. All interested citizens are to meet at City Hall if they wish to participate......
