~Jayd Jasmyn
Jayd woke up bright and early one morning. The reason for this was that she wanted to get some backyard garden work done. Eventually she wanted the yard to look like a paradise. She simply loved to work with plants and flowers. You might say that it's her passion. Jayd has a strong passion for plants and flowers. Her goal is to one day own a small business that does floral arrangements and sells plants. From time to time she would also be hired to work out in their gardens in order to bring it to life again. But that day hasn't come yet since her days have been filled with meeting Ladorak, getting pregnant, marrying him and caring for the household, which also included Caden.
But today she was going to make time to fill her passion needs. She was up earlier then the entire house. She ate breakfast, very little due to her still feeling just a tad sick. Ladorak was forever after her to eat more. And then she gathered the shovel, rake, hoe, kneeling pad and the pruning shears, taking them to the back. Later she would travel back and forth with a watering can in order to quench the plants thirst. They would need it since the soil around them would be freshly cultivated by the paws or Jayd Jasmyn.
Her goal is to plant new plants and cultivate the ones already there. Also she wanted to put a bunch of pathways around the yard so that one could walk through it and admire her work. Periodically she would place a bench beneath a hanging tree so that they could sit and just ponder over the beauty or anything else that they had on their mind. The backyard would be the perfect place to throw some garden parties as well. Jayd got goose bumps just thinking about it, all the while working with a grin on her face.
Soon she was working up a sweat. She wasn't use to working like this but it didn't bother her. Jayd was a pusher and she could get into shape even while pregnant. But still the pregnancy did take its toll on her. From time to time she needed to sit down and to wipe her brow with a cool cloth and to drink something cold in order to cool her body temperature down. And then it was back to work, making blisters on the palms of her paws while her pulled back headfur began to fall into her eyes. She looked rather cute. with feathered hair falling in her face and a tummy that revealed that she was now five months and showing.

It was a very rare day when Jayd rose before her husband. Ladorak Fugate was almost always up at around five in the morning, as he had trouble sleeping at night and believed in early starts. But today was unusual...he had let his downtime get to him. Last night had been a sort of relaxing night for him....and he had let it get to his head. He turned a bit in bed, inhaling deeply and letting his arm roll out.....and then stop. He was vaguely aware that Jayd was no longer in bed with him, but he remained asleep.
He heard the door open, and then close, light pawsteps padding over to his bed. Prying his tired eyes open, he could see.......pink in front of him. He sat up with a start. "Oh! Caden...." he said, looking down groggily into Caden's pink eyes. "What time is it?" he asked, rubbing his eyes with his fingers.
"It's after nine Ladorak." Caden said simply.
"Nine!?" the stoat exclaimed. "Oh dear....how could I have let myself sleep in so late!" he cried, hopping out of bed. It seemed that his wife was up before him. Great! He ALWAYS made breakfast.....so where was she? Caden averted his eyes, looking down at the carpet, as Ladorak wasn't exactly dressed......
The stoat scurried over to his dresser, pulling drawers open and throwing some clothes on. Caden was wearing a vest and pants, with a tweed flat cap that Ladorak had bought for him recently. It covered his big ears and the marten had taken an immediate liking to it, though he tried not to show it too much in Ladorak's presence. It was normally for lower class members of society, but Caden had indicated he'd wanted it, and Ladorak had obliged.
"Ladorak...." the marten said quietly.
"Where's Jayd...have you seen her?" he asked, a bit breathlessly as he finished dressing.
"Ladorak...it's alright. She's outside." Caden said, looking up at the stoat from under the big rim of his cap. "She's in the garden."
"In the....garden?" Ladorak paused. This struck him as odd. That was....a first. Normally it was Ladorak who was outside tending to his garden and his plants, which had since bloomed again now that Spring had come and gone. It was a hobby of his now, aside from reading, since he wasn't on a ship. He had to occupy himself, and gardening was actually something he had taken too. But Jayd outside was a new one for him. She was pregnant...and she shouldn't be working like that.
He turned to go, but a call from Caden stopped him in his tracks. "Oh....right. You want your breakfast right?" he asked the kit. Caden shook his head.
"Oh no....it's fine. I already ate a bagel with cheese. I just wanted to know.....would you have time to teach me about life aboard a ship?" he asked, looking down at the carpet again.
"Ship life....? Well....sure Caden, I'd be happy to. Of course....I can't really show you unless we step aboard one but I'll go over what I can with you. Let me just....check on Jayd real quick." He left the room, Caden following quickly. He picked up a wooden sword in his room that he'd made himself. It was nothing too fancy, just a simple toy, but it was something he could look forward too when he actually got out to sea.
Taking the stairs two at a time, Ladorak straightened up as he reached the bottom, brushing himself down and looking at the kitchen. No...he'd eat in a bit. He wanted to find out what Jayd was doing first. Crossing into the living room and then into the parlor in the back, he opened the door into the back of his gardens. Caden too looked at the kitchen before following Ladorak out. Oh well.....he'd eat later.
Ladorak stepped out into the bright morning sun. It was July now.....5 months ago he'd taken that trip to Sampetra with Jayd...and had taken Caden back here. He had been in winter coat then...but now his pelt was deep brown, almost a rusty reddish in color, with white belly fur. Taking his spectacles out, he pinched the bridge of his snout and kept them in place as he walked out into the garden past a rose bed to where he could see Jayd working. "I'm sorry! I slept in so late! I'm normally up hours before you are. I just...I don't know what came over me." In reality....Ladorak had finally had a good night's sleep, that was all.
Caden ran past him, charging out into the garden and running swiftly along the brick walkway. "Arrgh! Rosferian warship dead ahead! All paws to battle stations! Come on you lads! Look sharp!" he shouted down to a bunch of lilies, waving his sword and pointing it at what could only be an imaginary ship on the horizon. "Prepare to fire starboard batteries!"
"Larboard batteries...Caden, it's larboard!" Ladorak called over to the albino marten kit. "Left is larboard on a ship....right is starboard."
"Oh...right! Larboard batteries! Prepare to fire larboard batteries!"
Ladorak laughed now, going up to Jayd and standing behind her, kissing her upon her cheek. "Good morning dear. I'm sorry once again. He's......learning some stuff on his own I see. He's quite good...has a Captain's spirit in him." he kissed her again. "What are you doing out here? I didn't think you'd be tending my plants." he said, holding her hips from behind and rocking her affectionately a bit.

Jayd was busy working. Her husband sort of startled her but not enough to make a scene about it. Immediately she grinned at her mate. Oh how she loved him so. Each time she gazed at him it brought butterflies to her belly.
Lad came up behind her and Caden went whizzing by. After her mate apologized for his sleeping in Jayd wagged a finger in Caden's direction. "Caden! Love... Be careful that you don't step on any of the plants. They can't move out of your path." Jayd then leaned back on Lad as he instructed Caden a little about ships.
Jayd didn't mind sharing Lad with Caden, even though she never really got that close with the kit. He seemed to have a thing for Ladorak and Jayd was hardly noticed by the young one. "It's okay my love. You were sleeping so well that I didn't want to wake you." She let the rake drop and looked at her dirty sore paws.
It was rather hot outside but Jayd made sure she took plenty of breaks. "Yes... He seems very smart. And I thought that I told you that I love plants and flowers?" The femme jerked a little as if she'd been kicked. She had. Jayd giggled and took Ladorak's paw and placed it on her bulging tummy. "Here feel. Your kit wants to say good morning to you my love." The fem groaned. The child inside of her had quite the kick and it sort of hurt at times. "Our kit is very... *gasps* active and strong." Jayd groaned and leaned her head back on Ladorak's shoulder.

Caden started to make cannon noises, pretending he was being shot at.....or the one doing the shooting. "Agh! We're taking fire sir!" he said in a different sort of voice, pretending to be somebeast else. He then made a sound like splintering wood. "Stand to your guns!" he shouted now in his normal, if not a bit exaggerated command voice. "Don't shirk lads! Keep up your fire and we'll have them beat in no time! Hey Ladorak!" the marten called over to Ladorak. "What was that famous battle you always talk about....the one where the Galdean and Rosferian fleets fought each other around those islands?"
"Um...the Battle of the Saintes I believe it was called Caden." Ladorak responded.
"Yeah that one! What were the names of the flagships?"
"Um.....ours was the Formidable, and the Rosferian flagship was the City of Cosnair." the stoat told the kit.
"Right! And we won right?"
"That we did." Ladorak said with a nod as Caden went back to his game of make believe.
"Sir! City of Cosnair coming up on us!" he squealed in that other voice. "Not to worry, give 'em a broadside and they'll be done in no time!" back to regular voice and more cannon noises as he continued to scamper about the garden, being careful not to step on the flowers like Jayd wanted.
"Oh yes!" Ladorak exclaimed as Jayd put his paw on her stomach. "I do believe our kit is saying good morning. Tell me....you mentioned strong...would our kit be a strapping baby male in that case Jayd?" he asked, nuzzling her with his snout as he burrowed it into her neck, kissing and nibbling at her fur. "Speaking of which...I wanted to talk to you about names..." he said, moving up to her ear and nipping that as well. "If it's a male.....CADEN!" he shouted, stopping the kit in mid swing of his sword. The albino looked over at him, freezing his motions. "Not...so close to the Melissa alright?" Caden looked at a set of leafy green plants in front of him, his sword dangerously close to them.
"That's a rare kind of mint plant....one I imported from the east.....it's not easy to grow here....and I don't want you wiping out what I have been able to grow." the stoat said, giving him a smile.
"But we're getting boarded by the Rosferians Ladorak! We need to beat them back!" Caden protested.
"Alright...alright. But go get boarded over the by the apple tree, OK? Not so close to my Melissa plants." Caden nodded, and quickly charged towards the large apple tree that was outside of the garden, on a hill overlooking their house. The albino was swinging at imaginary foes left and right as he went. "That Caden....so rambunctious. He's got a lot of energy. I'll have to show him how to properly channel it on a ship. Now then....where were we.....oh yes......" He said, going back to nibbling his mate's ear.
"If it's a male.....I like the name Thersander....as I think you do as well. For a female....I know you had a lot of names....but I'd really like to name our first female after Nuori Freemont, Caden's mom. She meant a lot to me and well.....it would be a good way to honor her I think. She impacted my life quite a lot. Sure she was brusque and abrasive....but if not for her well, I might not be half the beast I am now. It does mean a lot to me dearest.....and I promise....after that, you can name all of our kits, I won't interfere." he said softly, still rocking her, his arms around her front side now and on her belly. "Hopefully I'll have a job by the time you deliver.....or else we might just have to cut back for a bit." He said, rubbing his cheek fur against her own, as he looked over her shoulder to where Caden was hacking at the air after having climbed onto a low branch of the apple tree, some of the succulent fruits falling to the ground. Ladorak didn't really care...he didn't exactly maintain the tree, and there were plenty of apples in case he wanted any for himself or Jayd.
"Would that be alright with you my dear?" he asked now, not moving from his position right behind her, his arms still about her front.

As of late Jayd was fighting down the burning sensation to be short with just about everyone and Caden was certainly no exception. The femme stoat-tess was certainly glad that Ladorak was here to help her with him. Quite frankly she didn't know what she would do without him. Her hormones were raging and she mostly just wanted her mates attention. And yes it was important that Lad share with her in this whole pregnancy experience. Slightly Jayd furrowed her brows until Lad's attention was back on her but then again it didn't remain on her completely. Deeply she sighed, trying to be the sweet Jayd that she's always been. It did help however that Caden was careful to not step on the plants that he instructed her not to. He was just a young one after all.
Finally Lad gave her a bit of attention. Jayd laughed due to his question. "It could be just a head strong female Ladorak. But then again it could be a male. I guess we have three more months to find out now don't we?" She barely got her words out and was able to bask in his kisses and nibbles when Lad was raising his voice to Caden. Jayd inwardly and outwardly cringed a little. She was thankful when he told him to go play by the apple tree.
Soon after he was nibbling again and Jayd found that she could finally bathe in that feeling as she leaned back into her mate again. She listened to his choices of names and she smiled and then nodded. "I really like Thersander for a boy but if it's a girl I'd be more then happy to honor our kit with Caden's mother's name. Nouri is a beautiful name." Jayd soon turned to face Lad so that she could wrap her arms around his neck in order to kiss him dearly before speaking and then jesting with him. "I hope that you are here for the birthing. I'd hate to do this without you my love. And just how many children do you want Ladorak Fugate?" Her mind wandered for a moment, thinking about being alone to have their child. It was a stress that she thought about often.

"Four months...we'll see in four months." Ladorak softly reminded her as she made the comment about how long it would be until they could see their new kit. A new kit....a kit that he had helped to create. Such a thought caused his heart to leap and his stomach to churn upon itself. He was going to be a father.....a biological father. Caden was good practice....but what would a newborn kit be like?
Her mention of whether or not he'd be there did cause him some concern. Prime Minister Falshed promised the nation about 15 years of peace last year, and that was a blessing and a curse to Ladorak. He would have to resign himself to land it seemed, though his heart ached to be out at sea again. He had to redeem himself....he had to clear his cloudy name....and he loved the sea as his preferred environment. But then...if he did leave...would he be a proper father? It was a rather tough spot for Ladorak Fugate. He didn't want to be tied down....and yet he did. It almost too much for the stoat.
But best enliven the mood. "365." he told her in her question for how many kits she wanted. He broke out into a grin. "One for each day of the year." he said, laughing a bit now as he leaned in to kiss her. "Of course....that would take roughly...." He closed one eye, squinting as he thought about the math. "273 years...and that kind of time my dear, we just don't have." he was still laughing now.
"But let's see.....I think it would be good to wait until after I got a command before we have any more kits." He said, still smiling. "I don't want us to starve after all. It would be irresponsible to bring in kits without a good income. But still...that's four months off. Close to the end of the year." he said, leaning in to kiss her now. Behind them, off at the apple tree, Caden was still pretending to fight off the Rosferian crew.
"Never give up! Never surrender!" he was shouting, jumping down from the branch and attacking his imaginary foes with renewed zeal.
"He'll make a good crewbeast someday." Ladorak said warmly. "Oh yes.....speaking of which. You're....familiar with life aboard ship, right? I mean....being a former....corsair and all." He said, trying not to say "corsair" with distaste. "What I'm trying to say is....you wouldn't have to learn much about it...right? How well versed with craft of the sea are you Jayd?" he asked, looking at her with sincere and inquisitive eyes now.

Jayd didn't tell him but she couldn't stand the thought of giving birth alone. She secretly wasn't sure that she was strong enough to make it through. Quite frankly she was scared, this being her first kit.
She allowed the conversation to float by her sad feelings of thinking that Ladorak might not be with her for the birth. "I am familiar with life aboard a ship... yes but the nautical terms and such I am afraid that I am not to knowledgeable. My father never let us partake to much of the mechanical part of running the ship. Us females were mostly busy doing the cooking, cleaning and sewing." Jayd looked up at him. "Why do you ask?"
Jayd glanced over at Caden. She smiled. He was so high spirited but she couldn't help but to think about the apples that he was stomping on. Indeed she could use them to can some applesauce. The supply would likely last for at least a season. with only the three of them eating it from time to time.

"Cooking, cleaning and sewing you say?" he said, looking down at her. "Why.....I'm not sure if I had you on a ship I'd make you do anything to be honest with you." he said, brushing his whiskers in with hers, his lips hovering only inches from her own, teasing her a bit. "I.....think that..." but instead, he closed his eyes, irresistibly drawn to her as he kissed her deeply...passionately.
Caden's shouts in the background blended with the breeze, and Ladorak could only focus in that moment upon his wife and her lips. After he drew back, he blushed a bit. "Sorry....couldn't help myself. Anyways....so you're not familiar with the mechanics of sailing then? Well that's fine....it's just that.....I don't know if I can bear being apart from you when I do have to sail off. I.....I want you by my side. I want you to be on the ship with me when I get it. I'll take you across the world if I have to. It's just...."
He stopped now, a sad look coming into his eyes. "I don't want you on the ship when we enter combat. Generally we'll be well informed if we're going into a fight, so I could drop you off at whatever base we'll be stationed out, take the ship into combat...and then come back. Come back to you....and my family. The one problem I have though...."
"Hey Ladorak! We won!" Caden called over to them. "Jayd! We did it! We beat the Rosferians!"
Ladorak looked over at him. "Well done there young Captain! Well met! Now just give me a minute to talk to Jayd here alright, then I'll begin showing you some stuff about ship life." Caden nodded, moving back into the garden and sheathing his sword. He moved past them towards the house, wanting to get a drink of water. "Now...then.....where was I...oh yes! The problem I'd have....is that after you give birth....I'm not sure taking the newborn on a ship would be such a good idea. But if we can't, then you would have to stay home.....so I'm not sure exactly what to do." he said, looking at her with almost pleading eyes.
It was something that was causing the stoat much mental duress, as he really couldn't solve this one. No way could he take a newborn onto a warship.....that sort of atmosphere would not be a good one for raising a kit. "I plan to take Caden with me of course, but that's because he'll be of age next year. I wish I had answers....I wish I could just wave my paw and everything would become evident....but that's not how life works all the time. I DON'T have all the answers." he said, looking at the ground and shuffling his footpaws before looking back up at her. He squeezed her arms a bit to indicate that he was worried, but not stressed. Maybe between them they could come up with something that work for the best.

Jayd's breath was taken away when Ladorak kissed her the way that he did and of course she kissed him back in such a manner. Her mate always had a way of making her feel loved. It was odd though at times to realize that he was actually her husband. She still just couldn't believe it. She was so happy! And even more so when he was giving her attention. It made her happy to know that he couldn't resist her at times because she felt the same.
Softly she licked the kisses off of her lips, tasting her husband and it giving her chills up her spin while he was going on about how he didn't want to leave her behind and he wanted her to be by his side but felt that it wasn't a place to raise the baby. Jayd smiled and hugged him firmly as she kissed his neck repeatedly. "Ladorak. I want to go along with you. And really raising our baby on the ship isn't such a bad thing. It's important to have both parents around. He will need his father for guidance and his mother to get his own way when his father won't let him." She giggled.
Jayd jumped a little when Caden shouted over at them. Her eyes turned to look at him as her mouth giggled. "Congrats Caden! Now go in a treat yourself to a victory piece of pie." Jayd giggled and then turned back to Lad and he squeezed her arms lightly. In turn she waved her one paw through his headfur and then down his cheek. "It's settled then. The kit and I will go with you and in times of battle you can leave us inland." She lifted under his chin so that she could bring his lips to her own so that she could kiss him sweetly. "I wouldn't want to live if I had to be apart from you that long."

"No....no...no." He shook his head sadly, stopping her from saying more. "That....just wouldn't be possible. Jayd....the Navy has regulations you know. The commanding officer CAN have his wife aboard if he so chooses, though it's not advisable in case she well...you understand." he looked behind him, thanking the fact that Caden was still indoors.
"Jayd listen to me. The regulation for kits is different. Minimum age a kit can be on a vessel is 13, and that's ONLY for work. I'm going to get Caden his own mess and a job in the galley I think, and raise him from there, but minimum age requirement for a kit to be aboard one of His Majesty's vessels is 13. Kits lie all the time in order to join the Navy....but we'd hardly be able to pass off a newborn kit as 13." He said, shaking his head again and closing his eyes.
"I'm afraid that just won't be possible. THAT'S why I'm in a bit of a quandary as you see. We can't just leave our kit onshore if I have to leave. Now....perhaps taking a packet to one of the naval bases would be possible for you....but would you really want to travel and take our family everywhere we go? I mean....you'd have to follow after me...and if we're at war well....always a risk that your ship would be seized as it's only civilian. I just...I don't want to leave you behind and yet...I don't want to risk my entire family on the high seas either....see the problem?"
He swished a tail out behind him, a sign that he was thinking things through. "Of course...no idea where I'll be deployed either. Would depend I guess." He said, shrugging, turning things over in his mind.
