Name: Gavin Stryker
Species: Striped Polecat
Age: 32
Birthday: November 12th, 1763
Nation of Residence: Rosferia
Status: Lieutenant in Rosferian Navy
Appearance: As a striped polecat, Gavin resembles a skunk in appearance but is related to the weasel family being a mustelid. He is shorter than many of his peers, being about five foot eight or so. He has a dignified, striking demeanor about him, and always maintains a professional air in the company of others, rarely letting his emotions show. His face almost seems like it could be carved in stone sometimes, it moves that little.
His tail is of course rather fluffy like a skunk's though not nearly as thick. The white stripes are of course included in his appearance down his backside. Gavin does need spectacles, but only for reading. He's fine distance wise. His eyes are a rather intense cobalt blue. As far as clothing goes, if he's on the job Gavin always tries to dress immaculately in his uniform, believing that officers are beasts the others on a ship look up to, and it's good to set an example. When in town he is more relaxed, provided he doesn't think that any of his crewbeasts are observing him of course.
Personality: Gavin rarely reveals anything about himself unless he's asked by a superior officer or a beast he respects. He will never talk about himself unless asked. He is excellent at thinking on his footpaws. In battle he displays both bravery and a good sense of tactics. He is very duty bound, and will always follow orders to the letter. If given autonomy, he proves resourceful and intrepid. He prefers talking business over pleasure, and is rarely seen indulging in "light" conversation (unless once again it's with a beast he trusts).
Gavin can have a darker side as well, and can verge on brutal when it comes to meting out discipline. He believes that stepping out of line infects the morale of the rest of the ship's crew, and will take punitive measures in order to ensure that the crew stays in line. He hates mutiny and treason, as being disloyal is the worst crime you can commit in his eyes.
However IF you gain his trust....Gavin Stryker can be a rather warm individual, though still slightly stiff in certain situations. His greatest strength is his loyalty to his nation and his commanding officers. He will rarely speak out, even if he personally disagrees with a commander's decision, instead offering his advice but never his personal opinion. His weakness would seem to be his lack of thinking for himself when a superior officer is present. He will follow orders and though may think of how best to carry it out, if he's given an order he will follow it without question.
Bio: Born into a noble family in the northwest coasts of Rosferia, Gavin's father died when he was 15 and Gavin had to raise himself practically as his mother lacked any means of making an income. Fortunately for him, Gavin's father left him his private estate on one of Rosferia's colonial islands in the far east. Deciding to experience life away from home, Gavin spent a few years in solitude on his island estate, and upon his return, he enlisted in the Navy. He served in the war against Welkin that took place primarily in Mossflower waters.
Fighting in three major battles there, Gavin's first combat was off the island of Terramort. In this battle the Rosferian Navy supported a ground attack on the Welkin Army that was bottled up on a peninsula. The Welkin Navy arrived to save the day....but instead of attacking right off, allowed the Rosferian Navy to bring up their anchors and get into position. The Welkin commander's next mistake was entering the Bay, when he could have stayed out and attacked the Rosferian vessels one by one as they emerged. Negating any advantage he had, the battle turned into a stunning Rosferian naval victory and left the Welkin Army alone and isolated on land and sea. They capitulated shortly thereafter.
The fleet next went down to the Western Mandates, a series of islands south of Mossflower to ride out the winter storms. It was here that Gavin fought his second and third battles. The Battle of St. Kitts opened when the Rosferian Army landed on St. Kitts Island and lay siege to the Welkin garrison there. Admiral Samuel Hood, a decorated Welkin Naval officer, arrived with a small fleet to try and save the island. In a brilliant maneuver he forced the Rosferian Navy out of his sheltered anchorage, took the anchorage for himself and beat off the Rosferian Navy's attacks on his smaller fleet....but once again victory eluded Welkin for while Hood was distracted the garrison on St. Kitts could fight no longer and surrendered to Rosferia's Army, forcing Hood to withdraw.
Gavin's third battle occurred when Welkin Admiral Rodney returned to the Western Mandates after going back to Welkin for the winter. His one intention? Destroy the Rosferian Fleet that had been giving his nation so much trouble. He caught the fleet at the Saintes Islands, and proceeded to deal a crushing blow that left Gavin a prisoner of war and sunk 1 Rosferian vessel whilst capturing 4 others, including the Rosferian flagship. Admiral Rodney lost no ships in this large battle that involved 36 Welkin and 33 Rosferian warships. Gavin spent 8 months in a Welkinite prison before he was finally exchanged.
The war had entered it's final year, and Gavin took up an independent command in the far east. Under his own authority he proved to be a whirlwind. He captured Welkinite bases, seized Welkinite ships, and beat off attacks by Welkinite frigates with his own frigate. It was a memorable command for him...and then the war finally ended in favor of Rosferia. Retiring to his personal estate, Gavin continued to serve in the far east station, finally returning to Rosferia when he answered a recall to return as his nation was in turmoil from the Revolution.
Recently arrived in Bray, Gavin Stryker has taken up a position as First Officer aboard the warship Bold, Captained by Noel Telious, and hopes to get on with his new commander well, and ensure that the Bold serves as a good example for the shaky Rosferian Navy as it gets back on it's feet and prepares to face new challenges......
