Banners in the streets! Citizens urged to enlist and defend the nation! Massive rallies and demonstrations taking place! What does it all mean? Are these pre-celebrations for the fall of the Bastion Prison? No! Then what is the cause for all of this fervor in the streets of Rosferia's capital? It turns out that news has filtered through from outside of the country that has caused much consternation among the Legislative Assembly and has caused a progressive movement to break out in patriotic concern for the well being of the nation.
The Imperial Court of Kostritz and the Royal Court of Gradvar have finally reached an agreement about what to do concerning Rosferia and Kradowska respectively. Kostritz decided to grant Gradvar the right to do whatever it pleased with Kradowska in return for Kostritz receiving any lands that Gradvar conquers from Rosferia. Consequently, until Kostritz's Armies are ready to move (still expected to take some time), Gradvar will bear sole responsibility in attacking and subjugating Rosferia and pawing over any lands that it seizes to Kostritz in return for being allowed to seize lands from Kradowska without interference from Kostritz.
Now that this deal has been made, King Frederick II of Gradvar has once again ordered his Field Marshall, Duke Ferdinand, to the Rosferian front. Ferdinand arrived today, July 11th, and immediately began building up the Gradvar Army for a renewed drive into Rosferia. After the dispersion of his forces, Ferdinand plans on building up his strength to close to 50,000 before he pushes across Rosferia's border and heads for Dumont. Frederick is of course, planning on accompanying this invasion in order to end it quickly so that he can rescue the imperiled King of Rosferia and turn his attention to annexing Kradowska lands. Ferdinand, as before, regrets his royal cousin's interference and would prefer to take his time and do things his way.
Such a buildup of military force on Rosferia's border has caused the Legislative Assembly to vote for itself emergency powers. In a move that was not authorized by the King, the Assembly has recalled Mayor Jerome to his post as Mayor of Cosnair after he was fired by the King for complicity in the march upon the King's Palace three weeks ago. Amid cheers and jubilation the rabbit has resumed his duties as Mayor much to the chagrin of the King and his Ministers. Augustine of course is saying that this is unconstitutional as he had no say in the approval or rejection of Jerome and that he had already fired Jerome last month, but the Legislative Assembly has not replied to his protests. The National Guard is also being opened to all members of society now, not just the middle class, and all who wish to join should do so at the earliest opportunity.
The Legislative Assembly has issued a message to the general public, and it's summation is printed here for all to read.
Citizens: The Fatherland is in danger! A league of kings has been formed to oppose your freedom, their battalions will advance, and they will be highly trained in the art of war. Do you not feel a defensive courage and ardor arise within you? Will you allow an invading horde to spread like a destroying torrent over your countryside? To destroy our harvests? To devastate our land through fire and murder? In a word, to fetter you in chains dyed with the blood of that which you hold most dear? Our armies are yet barely brought to completion, an imprudent sense of security moderated the spirit of patriotism too early; the recruitment which was ordered did not have as much success as your representatives had hoped. Interior agitation increases the difficulty of our position; our enemies indulge in foolish hopes which are an outrage against you. Make haste citizens, save the liberty and avenge your glory! Rally in the common cause, forget your political differences. Nations contemplate you. Surprise them with the majestic display of your forces and of your great traits, unity, respect for the law, unshakable courage, and soon victory will crown the altar of liberty with its palm, and soon the beasts who today are being armed against your Constitution will strive to unite with you through the ties of a sweet brotherhood; and soon, consolidating through a glorious peace, the basis of your government, you will finally gather all the fruits of the revolution, and you will have prepared, through your happiness, that of posterity.
That was an excerpt from the declaration of the "Country in Danger." The Assembly is frantically striving to reorganize the Army, get it into a workable order and send it to the front. The forces are being diverted from the borders of Mordenz to focus on the borders of Gradvar now, as that is where the threat will lie. General Elmdor is being ordered to ensure that his forces are ready for the defense of the nation no later than next month, and is being ordered to unite his Army of the North with that of General Kellerman's Army of the Center in order to form a united front against Gradvar's invasion. General Luckner's Army of the South is being told to hold it's position on the Calgary border in preparation for an offensive into those lands should the armies to the north of it prove victorious. Calgary, being a protectorate state of Kostritz, would be seen as fair game in this instance. Rosferia continues it's herculean efforts to train and equip its armies as it prepares to answer the Gradvar challenge.....
