It seems that things are rapidly turning against King Augustine. Let it be known that on today's date, August the 3rd, 1792, King Augustine has addressed the Legislative Assembly in an attempt to explain his stance on the sudden appearance of Duke Ferdinand's Manifesto and try and appease his populace as to his intentions and goals.
Speaking for a little under 15 minutes, Augustine disputed the claim of Ferdinand's Manifesto, saying that it might not even be genuine at all as there is nothing authenticating it and he has received no word from the foreign courts of either Frederick or Francis regarding said Manifesto. He urges the populace to go to the defense of Rosferia and that from the start, he has done nothing but support the Constitution and has not taken steps to hinder it, to which by and large the Assembly met him with derision and cries of falsity. Clearly from his recent actions, not all of Augustine's address can be regarded as truthful.
The Legislative Assembly itself is starting to fall apart. They are facing a crisis similar to the one they faced earlier this year, except it now seems to be more dangerous. Many of the royalist members have walked out in disgust, or were threatened into resigning by the closing of their clubs and meeting houses. Many independent members are leaving as well, and the Assembly's numbers are starting to shrink daily. They are drawing close to the point where they would no longer have a quorum and be unable to officially enact laws where a 51% majority sitting in their seats is required.
As situations continue to deteriorate in the capital, section after section of Cosnair's local government has been sending in petitions calling for the immediate overthrow of King Augustine and the instituting of a new government, in favor of a full republic this time. Their petitions stated that they no longer acknowledge the authority of a King, and that any order they may receive from Augustine or his Ministers will be summarily ignored. All but two of the sections have joined the majority, making it almost unanimous. The two sections that did not support this movement were the City Arsenal and the City Library, both dominated by old aristocratic families who would stand to lose much in the face of Augustine's removal.
It seems now that the entire nation save for a select few regions have turned fully against supporting the King. With even his own capital calling for his removal, it is the subject of intense speculation just as to HOW long King Augustine will be able to keep his throne. We will keep you informed of further developments.....
