Let it be known that on this date, January 23rd, 1793, negotiations between King Frederick of Gradvar and Empress Catherine of Delorn have finally been concluded. This marks the end of a long series of political maneuverings that have taken place since the conclusion of Delorn's invasion of its neighbor, Kradowska. Gradvar failed to come to Kradowska's support, and resistance collapsed once Kradowska's own King sold his cause out to Delorn.
King Frederick quickly jumped into negotiations with Catherine over who should get what from Kradowska now that the fighting was over. Catherine initially rejected Gradvar's overture, saying that they hadn't taken part in the fighting, but Frederick shrewdly countered. Stating that Delorn was not supporting the war against Rosferia, and that Gradvar had recently suffered a military reverse at Valmy, it should be compensated for its loss. Frederick further went on to state that he had not honored his military alliance with Kradowska, and could have stopped Catherine in her tracks if he had so chosen. But as he had been gracious enough to allow her to take over his ally he felt he should be granted a piece of the pie.
Negotiations continued, but finally Catherine relented. Kradowska will be carved up between Delorn and Gradvar now. Gradvar will be receiving a third of Kradowska in the west, Delorn will get a third of Kradowska in the east, and the last third will be what's left of the once mighty Kingdom of Kradowska. This has left many in Kradowska feeling bitter at their King's betrayal, and Catherine's further betrayal of him once he went over to her side.
The Kradowska parliament ratified the concessions, though the presence of Delorn troops outside of their halls might have had something to do with it. As it stands, Gradvar is now free to concentrate on their war against Rosferia, what with the Kradowska question cleared up. Delorn for its part, has stated it will remain neutral so far in this conflict, as Catherine wants to keep a close watch on Kradowska so that it won't rise up again.
In Rosferian news, King Augustine XVI was put to the guillotine on January 21st, after being found guilty by a large majority, and receiving just enough votes to put him to death, the vote for death being incredibly close, and separated by only 27.
The Republic of Rosferia is now confirmed, and without a monarch. This action has rather horrified the nations of Welkin and Ferlusan. Ferlusan is sending strong protests to Rosferia's government, Welkin has been reported to be mobilizing its Navy in possible preparation for war with its traditional enemy. If Ferlusan and Welkin go to war against Rosferia, it will leave said nation quite isolated indeed, and it remains to be seen if Rosferia can stand against the tide and defy the flow of the continent. This will be democracy's greatest test it is said, and we will keep you apprised of the developing situation.....
