Let it be known that on March 18th, 1793, the Rosferian armies of Carian Duross met with defeat at hands of the blue tailed skink Kostritz general, the Prince Josias. Kostritz had dispatched an army to recapture eastern Mordenz, and interrupted General Duross's attack on Western Mordenz right as he was breaking through. Forced to backtrack, the veteran Kostritz regulars prevailed over the demoralized and ill trained Rosferian army, with Duross losing the battle after failing to budge the Kostritz troops not one inch.
Retreating back into Rosferia, Duross tried to incite his army and take over Cosnair in an attempt to reinstall the monarchy. Duross, apparently disenchanted with the government of Rosferia, failed to gain substantial support and was forced to flee into exile with Kostritz when the National Convention sent commissioners to arrest him. Command of the Army of the North now passes to general Dampierre, a young and talented officer of the nobility who it is hoped will check the allied advance.
At this time as well Rosferia has at long last received an executive branch of government. The Committee of Public Safety has been established to serve as the head of state for Rosferia. The Committee will consist of several prominent members, and at its head is Otto Kurtz, famous legislator of the Convention. Taking his place in the Convention will be Milton Dragonis.
The Welkin army under the command of the Duke of York, Prince Redfur, has landed in Western Mordenz and marched into Eastern Mordenz in preparation for a joint campaign with Kostritz to invade Rosferia. The allied plan is to capture Rosferia's very formidable and numerous border forts and then to move on Cosnair from the north. At the same time, a joint Gradvar and Kostritz army under Duke Ferdinand and Count von Wurmser will be invading Rosferia from the east, though Gradvar must retake it's main border fortress at Mainz first before it can think about an offensive.
In the south as well Rosferia faces peril, as Ferlusan and Rosferia are now at war. Ferlusan was sending its main fleet into the Cobalt Sea in preparation of supporting Welkin, so Rosferia moved first and declared war. Ferlusan has since asked for the restoration of the Rosferian monarchy, something Otto Kurtz has flatly refused. Ferlusan has since begun mobilizing its army and navy, though of course it is reluctant to go to war with its long standing ally Rosferia, and has stated it will only fight until the Rosferian royal family is back on the throne, and that it does not seek the destruction of Rosferia itself, which on the other paw seems to be Welkin's war aim, and if not that then the destruction of Rosferia's navy is most certainly high on Welkin's agenda.
Otto Kurtz is urging all Rosferians to not grow despondent over the situation, and a draft of 300,000 beasts has been called in order to defend the motherland and to bludgeon the imperialist and royalist enemies into submission and that Rosferia WILL be a republic at all costs. At the same time however, the otter has sent out peace proposals to all members of the Coalition, though most have rejected his overtures and demand the restoration of the monarchy before they'll talk about peace. Sending out an alliance offer to the Kingdom of Slattland, said nation has turned down the alliance due to its need to still recover from its recent defeat in the war with Delorn. Gradvar has expressed an interest in at least opening negotiations with Rosferia, and this has caused it to be viewed with suspicion by other members of the Coalition, but at the same time Gradvar intends to recapture Mainz and drive Rosferia's troops out of its land first and foremost before it does anything else.
The Welkin Navy has been trickling out to sea as King Poynt III has announced a blockade of the Rosferian coast and has stated that all trade with Rosferia will be cut off until hostilities cease. Admiral Richard Howe has been given command of the Channel Fleet, Admiral Samuel Hood has been given the Cobalt Fleet, and Admiral Adam Duncan has been tasked with the North Seas Fleet. Rosferia's navy too is getting ready to go to sea, with Admiral Justin Bonaventure in charge of the Ceres Fleet and Admiral the Count of Trogoff in charge of the Cobalt Fleet. Rosferia has scoffed at Welkin's announcement of blockade, and has challenged Welkin to effectively attempt to cut off trade.
And thus the second full year of war now begins, with most nations save for Delorn involved. Empress Catherine of Delorn has issued a declaration of neutrality in order to keep her eye on her recently acquired territory in Kradowska. Slattland too has declared its neutrality, as has Dazaria. We will keep you apprised as further situations develop.....
