Well as I'll be working tonight, and not able to post, I figured I'd usher in 1794 a bit early here
1793 has been a most memorable year in RPing on this site I think. We finally went to sea, fought our first battle, and visited several ports in literary adventures as our characters traveled, developed and explored. The site shrank a little bit as well, but I think the new focus has proven even better, as we concentrate more on just the ship's exploits and the lives and experiences of the crew on board.
What are we looking forward to in 1794? Well for the Welkin Cobalt Fleet, they are in desperate need of a base that's closer to Toulon than Livorno and Gibraltar. Calgary and Ferlusan are a bit too far away to constantly head back to refit ships at, and thus, Admiral Hood is looking to obtain a base of operations that's a little closer to the Rosferian southern coast. A quick glance at the map shows that Personza would make an ideal choice, and the crew of the Agamemnon will soon find themselves transplanted on land, specifically on Boneparte's home island of Personza.
The native Personzans have overthrown Rosferian rule save for three strongholds in the north: San Fiorenzo, Bastia, and Calvi. The Agamemnon's crew will be focusing on taking the latter two, but how will it go down? Personza is rocky, mountainous, and gets rather hot in the summer time. Not only will they be facing large garrisons, but also the climate and disease as well, as the hot conditions aren't good for anyone's health. But if they can succeed, Admiral Hood won't have to divert nearly as far to refit his fleet, and can keep Toulon under a closer blockade.
Admiral Hood's health starts to fail him as the campaign drags on however, and the beast lined up as his replacement, Admiral William Hotham, seems an uninspired and lacking choice, at least in Ladorak's eyes. If Hood does depart, how will Hotham's succession to the post of Cobalt Fleet Commander affect things in the future?
Out in the Ceres Ocean, the Welkinite and Rosferian Ceres Fleets finally come to blows in the first of the six great naval battles that will attend this off and on conflict. The prize is a Rosferian grain convoy moving in from the west to deliver a vital supply of food to a starving nation. If Admiral Howe can cut this convoy out, then perhaps the war against Rosferia will be decided much sooner than anticipated.
While the navies clash, Rosferian land armies see nothing but success as they transition from a rag tag militia to the beginnings of a professional force. They will drive out Kostritz, Gradvar, and Ferlusan, and launch offensives of their own back into Eastern Mordenz to try and reclaim the ground they lost the previous year. In the east, Rosferia will manage to knock Gradvar out of the war and bring them to the negotiation tables.
James Saumarez and Priscilla Steep should be having their wedding this year, but before they can get into that, Saumarez will have to take his frigate and evade a larger Rosferian squadron he encounters on the way to his marriage.
On that note, the shaky relations between Ferlusan and Welkin are still in place, but by the end of this coming year Rosferia's Army of the Eastern Pyrenees, under the talented General Dugommier (who retook Toulon for Rosferia last year), will have come close to knocking Ferlusan almost completely out of the war on land, and with it looking more likely that Ferlusan might be forced to enter into negotiations with Rosferia, what sort of tidings will it bring for the marriage of Saumarez and Steep?
I've had an absolutely terrific RPing year in 1793/2010, and am looking forward to continuing the adventures in 1794/2011 Thanks for a great year everyone, and here's to the next one!
