Sure made him feel uncomfortable right off talking about his past relationship. That was probably the hardest thing to answer of all. He noisily picked up his silverware, cutting in to the fish as he spoke. "Well...problems...many problems." he said. "First off....I seemed to mix with the wrong crowd unfortunately.....and still tend to for some reason or another. It led to a lot of clashes with those I once would have called friends." He was talking very quietly, looking down at his food.
"There was a war going on too but.....there was so much infighting, so much squabbling among the leaders that I....there was nothing I could do, despite being a military commander. I fear.....that that place might be conquered, though I do not know it's current status. It's far from here." he explained, still looking down at his fish, as if it had the answers and he was engaged in some bizarre form of skrying.
"I had to leave......I was embroiled in too much trouble and scandal...there was no choice for me. It pained me so much....and to answer your second question yes....I was married once." he raised his eyes to look across the table at her. "It didn't last very long, less than a year if I remember correctly. I....was in a lot of pain then...and couldn't handle much. I briefly.....oh it's terrible." he said, his voice wavering and almost whispering. The white furred ermine was looking down at his food again, mostly to conceal the misting of his eyes.
"I blamed myself, she tried to help, we broke down, I couldn't...handle anything.....and it just ended. I had a very brief little....affair with my secretary." he admitted freely to her. "But we didn't really love each other, just an attraction I guess, I didn't know how else to deal with the pain at the time." he was speaking now as if he were highly ashamed at what he'd done, which he was. "I was just trying to deal with everything that had happened, but we weren't really meant to be together I think, so that too ended as well. It was around that time that I was in the tropics. Thankfully, my home island...Sampetra, it's no longer occupied by the Imperium, and was deserted. I went there...to be alone....maybe to die, I don't know." he said, shaking his head and looking back up at her now that the watery feeling had left his eyes.
"That's when I encountered a warfleet of Galdea. They were mapping the island, and the Admiral was quite kind, took me in...looked after me really. I decided I'd serve under him as best I could, and entered service with the Galdean Navy. Served under him and a guy called Hughes before finally entering my current duty under Admiral Hood. As of right now though I'm not on active duty, and I failed to win a seat in the Galdean Parliament so yeah, I get half pay and live here by myself for now, waiting for a command." he gave her a half hearted smile, then proceeded to eat his fish, his eyes widening at the taste.
"Very good!" he said, swallowing to get to the next bite. "Mmm yes, very good! Oh sorry....that was all I had to say, any questions or comments?" he asked, pausing to chew his next bite.

Jayd actually felt bad about asking him of his past. She shook her head and also looked down at her fish, separating it with her fork into delicate layers until she could bare to look back up at him. It was hard for her to see a grown male so eaten up by sadness, sorrow and hardship. But as usual the female tried to look at the brighter side of things. "Well you're here now trying to make a new life. I think that being here is good for you. You seem to be content." Jayd wanted to tell him more. She wanted to say things like... Time heals all wounds and that one day because of his hardships he would be happier then before. She also longed to tell him how easily someone could fall in love with him. Seeds of something began to grow in the pit of her stomach for this male. His story and everything about him touched her heart. From what she saw before her he was a grand specimen of a male stout, a male that any female would be proud to be with.
The female then plucked a morsel of fish into her mouth. For a moment she savored the flavor. She thinks that it's the best that she's ever made. Perhaps today she was inspired. To her cooking was an art, one that could be creative and transforming to the creature eating it and so she was happy to hear that Ladorak liked it. Softly she giggled. "I'm glad that you like it." She took a dab of potatoes and gracefully placed them in her mouth as well. Her eyes widened. "Mmmm.... You'll like the potatoes as well I think. I'll take any advice that you have to give me. Perhaps I'll get a second job as a cook so that I could make extra money." She laughed as her green cistern sparkled in his direction.
Now it was the vegetables turn to enter her mouth. They were also good but she'd rather let Ladorak find that out for himself as they conversed. "What about a job around here until a position opens up in the Navy? I'd sure hate to see you leave me so soon. We're just getting to know each other." The femme grinned, hoping that she lightened the mood around them. Her personality was infectious. Usually she was of good cheer. The life that she's led wasn't a glorious one but at the same time she found it to be cherished. Her family was close and living on the sea wasn't so bad. Jayd just needed a change and so here she was, having dinner with a rather handsome male who seemed to be intriguing her more by the minute.

He found this question of hers odd. Work for him outside of the Navy? Around here? "Well...." he said, taking her advice and sampling the potatoes. He nodded in appreciation of their taste. Very good....she was excellent, a match even for him when it came to cooking it seemed.
"I suppose I could." he said in between mouthfuls. "But I'm just afraid I'd get so intrenched doing that that I'd miss an opportunity to get back out to sea after all. I did try running for Parliament, but didn't make it. I might get called at a moment's notice as well, though that doesn't really seem likely. Me and about a hundred other names are on a list for potential ship command if conflict ever breaks out or the need arises to deploy the fleet. I don't seem to be popular much for enforcing certain laws on the high seas that didn't sit well with my superior, plus I was sued several times by merchant captains who claimed I had seized their vessels illegally even though I was only enforcing Galdean Law. Almost went to prison for it, remained on the Boreas, my past ship, for nearly 8 months. The courts had to decide whether or not to deny the claims, and finally they settled in my favor."
He shook his head. "It just seems so....silly now that I think about it. But I really do love the sea. I'm aching to get back out there. It seems to be the only place I've ever really been truly happy. Not that fighting itself is nice, I'd much there be peace, but can't have one without the other if you understand what I'm saying." he said, smiling a bit, both at the food and of the fond memories at sea he had.
"However, I suppose looking for other work would be possible, but what would one like myself do for a living? I find I'm very talented at combat command, but haven't really tried much else. I've ALWAYS been on the sea, practically raised on a ship after all. My foster father was always sending me away on....well...assignments." he said, not elaborating that they were pirate vessels and that he worked closely with several corsairs, always hating the missions but due to being coerced there was really little other choice he had. "After I left that place, I drifted about, but always looking for naval jobs. Even in the Imperium my only land jobs seemed to be military commands of some type. It pays well, and gives me a place to live." the smile was still there, though this time directed in her direction.
He felt....like he wanted to get closer to her now. Invite her to go with him someplace, or just get out with her for awhile, though he wasn't sure why. This was certainly the most he'd talked about himself to another before aside from Admiral Parker since leaving the Imperium. "What about you? I mean seriously, what do you see me doing?" he asked, a bit of actual emotion coming in to his voice now. It was....content, possibly even happy and humored.
A plan was beginning to form in his mind now. Could he really...really ask her out? Not just like a date but maybe a cruise or something. It was...strange yes, and a bit dangerous, but like it or not the ermine was hopelessly losing his battle against her.

It made Jayd happy to know that he was enjoying his food. It also made her happy to come to know this male and it seemed that he passion really was for the sea. Every inch of his existence seemed to long for it, that liquid wavy goodness. He was actually making Jayd long for it as well, to miss it.
"Well I think that you could be a cook at the tavern or perhaps you could be a teacher. I think that you could do anything that you set your heart too. You seem like a very intelligent guy." She smiled over at him and then chuckled as she licked her fingertips. The teacher part probably would make him laugh. Jayd wasn't sure how good he'd be with kits he'd be but it was a funny thing to imagine.
The female then strained her long slender neck. She was wondering if he was finished eating or if he wanted to linger about his plate for a little longer. As for her part she set about eating. She ate until her plate was clean and then she sipped of her tea, which gave her a warmed feeling in her belly. "The peach cobbler is waiting for us. Eat up so we can have some." She eyed him, almost seductively, over the rim of her tea cup, while stretching her legs out and bumping into his footpaws with her own.

That teacher bit did cause him to stifle a chuckle. HIM? Ladorak Fugate? A school teacher of kits? While he might have an affinity for them, he just couldn't picture himself actually TEACHING them. Like what would he teach them? All he really knew was the ways of the sea and how to fight. It was just so amusing as he tried to think about what it would look like.
It was just a little too funny for him to take seriously though, and the other, cooking, well he'd have to be cooking at the court of a royal in order to make a good living that way. But still...maybe something to consider. He wondered what he'd be doing for New Year's after all....1792 was just around the corner.
Still...a teacher. That had to be one of the most amusing things he'd ever heard. Though it seemed Jayd wished to finish her meal, so rather than answer her question, he opened his mouth to say "Amusing thought...me a teacher...it really is." he said, still holding back a laugh. "The very thought." he said he continued to work at his meal. He knew the cobbler was approaching a finished state, and she was gazing over at him across her glass.....and something stirred a bit inside of him.
What was it? It wasn't something he'd felt in a while, and then he was momentarily distracted by her bumping in to his footpaws with her own. OK....was that intentional or accidental? Was she trying to get him to relax....or actually trying to seduce him? The ermine wasn't sure, but either way....was it really THAT bad of a thing?
"Well um...." he said a bit nervously, gulping down the last of his egg nog and finishing his meal. "Dessert sounds excellent. Is there anything else you'd like to ask me?" he pointed the question at her as he wiped his mouth off, proper like with a napkin, making sure all the breadcrumbs in his whiskers were gone before dropping it back in to his lap.

Jayd grinned. She saw that he tensed when she bumped her footpaw into his. There was one good thing about this whole thing... It was evident that she could affect him in such a manner. Jayd wondered if she kept invading his space, flirting with him and tempting him if she could get him to go over the edge. The femme wasn't innocent in the ways of relationships but she had none that felt so wonderful at the beginning as this.
The female got up and pondered over his question. She wasn't sure what else there was to ask him. The femme wished to stay away from the sad things and so she chose to ask him something more neutral. "Well... Is there anything that you wish to share with 'me' or is there anything that you wish to ask 'me'?" Surely there were things that he wanted to know about her. Of course there were certain things that she'd have to keep secret, for now.
Gracefully she flowed over to the desert and back again, allowing the wonderfully sweet scent to flow beneath his nose as she sat it on the table. As usual she went rather close to the male. From his position when she leaned over to sit the delightful dish down he could observe her elegant back and her irresistible shape.
OOC- Sorry so short but I wanted to get this in today.

"Well..." He watched her move over to get the dessert, no longer did he attempt to keep his eyes restrained. He figured it wouldn't hurt, and they could be friends after all....just friends.
Despite the ermine telling himself this he had wanted to suddenly ask if her if she herself had ever been in any relationships before, but he didn't feel as if that were a proper thing to ask. He held back out of politeness and also because he didn't want to seem like he was interested in starting one. Didn't want to move THAT quickly after all.
She set the cobbler down in front of him, and from where he was sitting he was given a rather interesting view of her backside. Must she get so close to him like this? Was she TRYING to get him to look at her? If that was indeed her intended goal, it sadly was working. Ladorak's eyes did a once over, moving from high to low, drinking in the sight.
"So....actually I was thinking of taking a trip to the tropics to escape the winter cold. Have you ever heard of an island called Sampetra? It used to be an island of corsairs, then it was briefly under Imperium control until they lost it, and now I don't think anyone owns it. Empiret Magenta Mining Consortium seems to be taking an interest in it, but other than that it's deserted as far as I know. Would you perhaps." he cleared his throat, pausing to do so partly out of hesitancy and partly because there was a real need.
"Perhaps consider coming with me? It would give you something to do, and I don't plan on being gone longer than a few weeks. We'd be back in time to finish the rest of winter out I'd imagine, plus it would allow for my coat to shorten up and go back to the browns and whites." He offered, unsure of what she would say to this. "Not like I don't have time after all. Of course, I plan on speaking to Admiral Hood one last time before I leave, see if I can get lucky with a job opening." he explained to her, his nostrils flaring a bit at the aroma of the cobbler.

Jayd was taken by complete surprise as was evident by her slightly widened eyes and her parted lips. "You want me to go to Sampetra with you? You are asking 'me' to go?" She must have sounded silly sort of asking the same question twice but she was shocked by him asking.
The femme paused, but not for to long as she smiled, now moving over to take a seat and then to lean in to serve him some cobbler and then herself, tapping the top with some vanilla ice cream. "I'd love to go. I've never been there so yes... I'll go with you. It should be fun." Her smile grew. The thoughts of them going away together caused butterflies to swarm into her stomach.

He smiled now, nodding in thanks at her serving him. "Good....that's settled then. I'll have to figure out a time and everything, and fortunately the one possession I still have that I refuse to sell is my yacht, so that will be our means of conveyance. If you've sailed before you could help out then and we wouldn't have to hire anyone else. Save the little money I have." he said, looking across at her.
"Once I get back to sea though the paychecks will be quite sufficient." he took a forkful of the cobbler in his mouth, his tongue elated at the taste of the rich peachy concoction as it went down this throat. "Once again, you do not fail to impress." he commented honestly.

Jayd followed his example and took a smooth bite of her desert, as usual it was delicious. Her face turned up with delight as she watched the male enjoy his as well. "I can fish for food and so that will save us money." She smiled as she took another dainty bite.
She nodded toward him, squeezing the fork between her lips in order to get all of the juices from it until she was able to speak to him freely. "Do you have any idea of when we'd leave? I need to make arrangements for my job. I hope that they don't look down on this, taking leave so soon. But perhaps if they do and fire me it will open up other opportunities for me. Maybe I could open a little cafe' or something." Her eyes closed with the satisfaction of the sweet peaches upon her pink tongue.
The possibilities were endless with her new life now. It was a wonderful thing to be free, not that she wasn't free before but she was still living under her parent authority and had to listen to them. Now... she was her own boss and could do as she wished. There would be no more sneaking around. Jayd was free to come and go as she pleased, to see who she wanted to see and to live her own life.
