There is PEACE between the nations of Gradvar and Rosferia. After three years of war, the Treaty of Basel was signed today in neutral Switzerland. Gradvar had been looking for peace ever since July of last year, when it suffered a heavy military defeat along its Rhine frontier. Now practically bankrupt due to its King's excesses, Gradvar is looking to drop out of the war and focus on dividing up Kradowska with Kostritz and Delorn.
Negotiations dragged on for several months, as Rosferia insisted on a military alliance, but that was beyond Gradvar's goals. Peace was finally signed today between Francois de Barthelemy for Rosferia, and Karl August von Hardenberg for Gradvar.
Provisions of the treaty are as follows:
1) All land west of the Rhine River (the Rhineland) shall henceforth pass to Rosferian control. Lands east of the Rhine that Rosferia captured from Gradvar will be returned to Gradvarian dominion. The fortress of Mainz, under Kostritzer occupation, will go to whoever can hold it, though Gradvar officially renounces all claims to that border fortress (as it falls on the west bank of the Rhine).
2) Peace shall exist between the two nations of Gradvar and Rosferia, and Gradvar renounces its military alliance with Kostritz.
The land lost to Rosferia in the war is somewhat compensated for, as Gradvar is receiving a large chunk of Kradowska in the negotiations with Delorn and Kostritz. The fertile and industrial Rhineland will now pass to Rosferian control, and Rosferia has reached its "natural boundaries" once again with the taking of the Rhineland. On the flip side of that, Gradvar is most likely receiving the port of Danzig in Kradowska, something it has been after for years.
Peace talks are still ongoing in Basel between Rosferia and Ferlusan, and also in The Hague between Mordenz and Rosferia.
