Name: Montegu Sylver
Species: Weasel
Age: 28
Birthdate: June 28th, 1767
Nation of Residence: Welkin
Status: Detective (freelance)
Appearance: Montegu (or Monty to his friends) is fairly average in height for a weasel, standing about 5’10” and having the standard fuzzy brown fur of the rest of his species. Standard white furred “bib” on his neck, chest and belly, and black tip on the tail. His coat changes to the standard white save for the black tar tip in the winter as per standard for most of his species. Normally dresses quite well, and his outfits range from black overcoats and white waistcoats with top hats to green cloaks and dapper caps. Almost always wears a top hat however.
Something distinguishing on his face is a white lightning type scar that zigzags up from his left eye to his forehead, a mark of his forefathers. It is in actuality a birthmark, not a real scar, but was passed on through the Sylver line for generations. Something else to note is that Monty typically carries a cane with him that conceals a sword, as he likes being prepared for dangerous contingencies.
Monty can be seen with a large chibouque on occasion, but he has not yet taken up the habit of actually outright smoking. He prefers to chew on the ends of the long pipe, a much healthier habit admittedly.
Personality: Monty is amiable but can seem aloof and even cold to those who don’t know him thanks to his great intellect and his different way of looking at things. He thrives on puzzle solving, hence why he does what he does. Without a good puzzle or case, he often falls in to boredom and sometimes, even melancholy. He gets quite excitable when breakthroughs are revealed to him, but it’s small surprise since the young weasel almost eagerly absorbs mysteries as if they were the very sustenance necessary to keep him living. He possess excellent powers of deduction and can often tell much about a creature by simple visual observations. This can surprise those he's never met, but according to him it's "quite simple."
Montegu Sylver has a rather cordial relationship with the ruling stoat family of Welkin, and has even found favor from time to time with King Poynt’s court. The ermine monarch tends to look with slight amusement on Monty’s doings, but is grateful for the times that Monty has foiled a conspiracy on the part of Spindrick (or others) and is not above talking to the weasel if their paths ever cross.
Because of his relationship with the court, Monty also knows many military and naval officials, though he rarely engages in much leisure time with any of them. Something to note though is that he does sometimes frequent the officer’s club in order to get in to a good match of chess or bridge (or even whist) with some of the higher ups, and it is through these activities that he has come to know Commander Ladorak Fugate of His Majesty’s Royal Navy. Despite being the best chess player at the club, Ladorak has yet to win a game against Montegu Sylver, and thus their relationship can be described as somewhat lukewarm, as neither seem to have the patience for the other’s profession. Monty can’t be bothered with military drama, whereas Ladorak feels lost without being on the sea.
Monty is quite loyal to his friends Bryony, Maudlin, and Scruff, and the three happily aid him in his crime fighting tasks whenever necessary, and Monty is always glad for their assistance when the need arises.
It has been said that the sleuth is immune to the feminine charms of most females, and some speculate that either he just can’t be bothered with romance or that perhaps he’s just REALLY good at hiding his emotions. Somewhere deep down, incredibly deep within the depths of his being, Monty does seem to have feelings for Bryony Bludd however, but has not openly expressed them to the veterinary femme yet. Similarly, Monty seems to have an interest in Sveltlana, the lemming antagonist of his that even he admits from time to time bewitches his senses, but normally Monty strives to keep a clear mind and his sharp wits about him when it comes to her.
Bio: Montegu Sylver comes from a line of minor nobles in Welkin that can be traced back several generations. He has chosen to eschew his noble lineage though and only goes by the “The Right Honorable Montegu Sylver” now, his previous title, whatever it was, is no longer in use. There are many speculations ranging from Baronet all the way up to Duke, but he won’t personally comment on this either way. He currently lives his life in Welkin, solving mysteries and baffling cases that leave the police scratching their heads. Because of this, he’s often times come in to conflict with Inspector Falshed, the head of the police agency in Muggidrear, who sees Monty as nothing but a vigilante who has no business poking his snout in to the work of law enforcement. Monty, for his part, tolerates Falshed, but thinks little of the Inspector’s crime solving skills (or lack thereof).
Monty frequently crosses wits with his evil cousin Spindrick Sylver, a known anarchist and hater of authority, and the two come in to constant conflict with each other. Monty also must faces challenges from the dark lemming Sveltlana, another avowed enemy of Welkin who hails from the country of Slattland. These two frequently give the weasel detective a good run and force him to stay constantly on his toes in order prevent disaster from striking if either of these two ever had their way with the country.
Aided by his close associates Bryony, Maudlin and Scruff, the weasel has foiled plots, robberies, scandals and more in his career, and always looks to what the future may bring. He currently lives at 5a Breadoven Street in Gusted Manor, a primarily stoat neighborhood in Muggidrear where most of his neighbors are quite snooty, save of course for Bryony Bludd, who lives close by.
