Jayd didn't want to trouble Ladorak or his mind but she had to admit that she loved being fussed over by her husband. It displayed to her that he indeed did love her, another aspect of a relationship that made it a healthy one. She watched as he slowly sauntered over to Caden, glancing back with a concerned expression on his face. Jayd simply smiled assuringly at him.
It was when Jayd mentioned getting drinks that Ladorak then really expressed his concern. She 'would' be very careful and she would allow him to fuss and protect as much as he wanted. The femme simply nodded and took a few steps before he told her exactly what he desired to quench his thirst as he stopped by her side.
Jayd giggled a tad bit and then took his paw, giving it a soft squeeze, even though she wouldn't be joining them right off the bat. She wanted to get them a drink. "I will get the drinks and 'then' join you up at the helm but I promise that I will be careful." Jayd planted a kiss on the end of his nose and then sauntered away, her arm stretching out until she finally left go of his paw with a smile.
The femme retreated below to the galley. It was remarkably clean and very organized to say the least but she wasn't surprised. Ladorak was a very clean male stoat and he ran a tight ship. It was easy for her to find what she needed. She made a nice cool gin and tonic for Ladorak, which she had a habit of making a little on the strong side but he never seemed to complain. Jayd also poured some apple juice in a tumbler for Caden with a smile. She thought of the young male and her conclusion was that he was just adorable. From there she grabbed an cold water for herself, knowing that Lad would have a bird if she drank anything with alcohol in it, and then a small round tray to place them all on.
Her large eyes squinted when she got back to the deck. Immediately she headed for the ladder with the tray full of drinks balancing in one paw while the other rubbed her tummy a little. She smiled at a nearby crew beast. Her facial expression and her bodily movements silently requested assistance. He needed no second bidding. Promptly he grabbed the tray, allowed her to go up the ladder first and then followed at a distance that would allow for him to watch the femme so that she didn't trip or fall.
Once Jayd got to the top she waited for the generous beast with a smile and then she took the tray. "Thank you kind sir." The young male blushed, nodded and then was on his way to perform some specific instructions that were given to him by the captain of the ship. Jayd only for a moment watched him retreat and then turned to Lad and Caden. She held out the tray with a grin. "Here you go my dears."

Ladorak lined Caden up with the wheel, showing him how to properly hold the wheel so that he wouldn't break his wrists if the wheel were suddenly jerked to the left or the right. "So you turn right to go left and left to go...."
"Starboard?" Caden asked, to which Ladorak nodded.
"Yep, that's right. So it's inverse from driving a cart. Here....you try it." Ladorak slowly released Caden from his grasp, moving back and back so that the albino marten could get a feel for how to steer the ship on his own. "It's simpleĀ...keep her pointed straight, as the wind is coming in off our larboard quarter, so right now we're on the larboard tack. Keep your eyes on that wind indicator way up on top of the main mast and always make sure to keep it pointing in the direction it's in. Never steer directly into the wind unless you're tacking.....which means shifting the sails around to the other side of the boat....see?" Ladorak motioned with is arms to which Caden nodded.
"A boat can go in any direction EXCEPT directly into the wind. It CAN sail in that direction but it must keep tacking back and forth....back and forth....to make any progress. Making a turn when your bow faces the wind is called a tack, and making a turn when your stern is to the wind is called wearing, and it's more dangerous than tacking." Caden's head was spinning with all of this information. Wearing? Tacking? Wind? So much to remember! He shook his head, trying to clear it.
This brought out a laugh from Ladorak. "Hahaha! Don't worry so much about it Caden. You won't have to know this stuff right away....but you'll get darn good at it after spending months onboard a ship." The stoat explained with a grin. "Ah! Dear! There you are!" the jack exclaimed happily, taking his gin and tonic from Jayd's paws. "Thanks for being careful love." he whispered into her ear, kissing her upon her cheek as he delivered Caden's apple juice and set it down carefully atop the binnacle, which housed the ship's compass.
"Just reach forward for your juice when you want it" Ladorak said, to which Caden promptly did, taking a grateful swig of the drink.
"Thanks Jayd." the marten kit stated, keeping his pink eyes riveted ahead of him so as to keep their course straight.
"Well, that's one more thing I've shown him. Tell me Jayd......" Ladorak was backing up now, closer to his jill and giving Caden his space. He spoke in lower tones now. "If you could have me for an entire day.....what would you want to do?" he asked, the bespectacled stoat moving his head to look at her now with a hint of a warm smile.

Jayd loved watching Ladorak as he taught Caden. She wasn't sure why but she felt happy when she knew that Lad was in his element. They were at sea! Surely the male stoat felt a bit more free now, which she was glad to be able to share with him.
Softly she was kissed on the cheek and thanked from both Ladorak and Caden. At least she was appreciated, she thought. Happily she grinned as she watched the kit take a long sip of his apple juice. "Your welcome Caden." Jayd folded her paws in front of her.
She could tell that Lad was happier here then inland. He was much more playful. Jayd laughed when he asked her what she would want to do if she had him all to herself for an entire day. Deeply she took a breath, her eyes shining as she spoke. "Oh gosh... A whole day? Well... I wouldn't mind taking a walk on the beach or maybe having dinner. Or maybe we could spend the entire day in bed just cuddling." She laughed as she tapped her cheek with her fore-finger. "But then again we could perhaps rent a cottage near the ocean and have a picnic on the sand. We could also...." She blushed deeply. "Well what would you want to do?"

It seemed his mate had quite a lot of ideas about what to do if she could get Ladorak alone for a day. Pretty soon Caden would be taking care of himself...or would learn that while at sea. Then Jayd and Ladorak could really enjoy this day when that occurred.
"Me?" he asked now, finally breaking out into a smile. "I can't think of anything else I'd rather be doing right now with you than taking you out to sea on a cruise." he said, his green eyes shimmering a bit. "To me....this is an ideal day....just like our wedding night was." he said, speaking so very softly now as both of them would know what he was talking about.
He turned briefly to watch Caden steer. "How is it Caden? Easy?" Caden nodding, looking over his shoulder, his flat cap still on his head.
"I think I've got the hang of it!" the albino called back over to them.
"Good! You're doing an excellent job so far!" Ladorak shifted his attention back to his wife. "Jayd....I've been thinking about something and have been meaning to talk to you about it. I was thinking.....that until I get employed by the Navy again.....well I AM employed but I mean back on the water....maybe I should...take up a job on shore temporarily. You uh....you had told me something a few months ago....earlier this year."
He rubbed his arm now. Oh this was so unjackly of him! Jacks were supposed to be strong, and hold the kind of naval jobs Ladorak held. Be a fighter or defender or something. But this....this was more of a jill's trade if anything. What he was about to say that is. "You said....I might make a good....teacher right?" there! He'd said it! He felt his heart twisting itself up now and his stomach sloshing around and around in nervous agitation. A teacher! Ladorak Fugate! What would his wife think? He had always wanted to present a strong, pure mate to her, a real prime example of what a jack should do in life.
Clearing his throat a bit nervously, he folded his paws behind his back and shifted his weight a bit, looking from Jayd to the deck to his boots and then back at Jayd again, a nervous, very tightly drawn smile on his lips.

Jayd grinned when he stated that their wedding night was perfect... and it was. The femme never wanted it to end but of course all good things had to end. But the fact that he mentioned it brought a soft blush to her cheeks, wondering if anyone else heard it. Her eyes darted around a bit but there was no other beast there except for Jayd and Ladorak. And of course Caden but Lad was talking soft enough and Caden was having a time of his life steering the boat and drinking his juice.
Then Lad revealed something about what he'd been thinking about, which proved that he really did listen to her when she spoke. The femme smiled with wide eyes. "You want to teach?" Jayd could see that about Ladorak and he did so well with Caden. "Well I think that would be great! I mean you do so well with Caden. But... What would you teach?" Lad now had her fullest attention. This would be interesting to hear.

"Well...truth be told I haven't really thought a great deal about that." the stoat shifted his paws, clearly a bit nervous that he'd come out and said that. "I just....well the thought occurred to me several times every since you first brought it up with me but I....well I I mean...." he stopped now, walking a bit closer to her so that he could keep his voice down...as if this were some secret or something.
"I'm a bit embarrassed by it I admit. I've always wanted to be your strong, self-assured mate after all. The hero of your household who protects you from afar aboard a ship of war and well....teaching isn't exactly that exact image....nor is it normally a jack's profession." Ladorak rubbed the back of his neck fur, running his claws anxiously through the soft pelt.
"But....I think teaching is something I could do. I have more of a bookish appearance to my face anyways." he gestured at his pince nez spectacles. "I'd have no idea what I'd teach though. History maybe. I love to read books about circumnavigators after all.....it's always been something that's captured my imagination. What...." he stopped, trying to form his words and swallow that lump of anxiety he could definitely feel in his throat.
"What do you see me teaching?" the stoat asked now, his voice very low and almost meek in a way. He was happy he'd said this though. He was just feeling a bit less of a jack because of it. He knew Jayd probably wouldn't think less of him either way.

Lad stepped closer to Jayd and she to got nearer to him. He talked as though he wanted this to be a secret and well... anything that her mate talked to her about she kept it between them. Who would she tell anyway? She didn't have any female friends or any family around here, not that she was the gossipy type of stoat-tess anyway. She respected her mate to much to misuse his trust like that and truthfully she wanted him to trust her as well.
Jayd cleared her throat and gave him a few eyes blinks before taking her opportunity to respond to what he first said. "Well quite frankly my dear I will always see you as my strong, self-assured hero and nothing could ever change that, especially not a job where you could make the difference in young ones lives. If anything it's a commendable and respectful occupation." Jayd then grabbed the paw that he was using to run through his neck fur. She held it firmly and lovingly with her own smaller paw as she listened.
The femme shook her head and then chuckled softly. "You are right Ladorak. You do have the appearance of a teacher." Again she blinked at him. She loved the fact that he was even confiding in her about such thoughts but also that he was interested in her opinion as well. "Well... I could see you teaching history but you could also teach them about ships as well. Think of the cool field trips you could take them on!" She giggled.
Jayd was growing even more excited about the prospect of him being a teacher. Perhaps one day he wouldn't go out on war ships and battle anymore at all. She would love to have him home and to never have to think about him leaving her side... ever again. Excitedly she squeezed his paw. "And the children and I... when we have more children... could come with you on your field trips. So you could spend time teaching but at the same time be with your own kits, and wife, as well." Her mind was clearly churning and bubbling with ideas.

"Well....admittedly it was only an idea. I'd have no idea about how I'd actually go about implementing it. Burnham Thorpe has no actual schoolhouse. Those are mostly in the bigger cities like Muggidrear and such. I'm......I'm glad you're supportive of it though." he said, nodding more firmly now.
"I was thinking it could hold me over until I have to ship out. Could be another few years at this point...." he said, slight regret twinging his voice as he spoke these words. "But yes...as stated....I wouldn't know exactly how to go about doing it as there aren't any real schools in Burnham Thorpe. Population's not big enough."
The stoat's voice was rising now, getting back to it's natural tone. "Sorry...didn't mean to bring it up here....guess I couldn't help myself. I REALLY wanted to tell you what was on my mind. It's something I've never done before but....in reality....being a Captain of a ship is very much like being a teacher...because all the kits onboard who newly enlist are supposed to be taught mathematics, navigation, history and the like in between their work. A warship serves as a floating schoolhouse in a way....and well....being a teacher on land would just sort of serve as an extension to my job at sea...right?" he asked, trying to connect the two of them.

Jayd's hopes got a little high. She was hoping that he would never go back to the sea but in her heart she knew that Lad would probably die serving in the military. The femme sighed but kept her smile. "Well maybe you could take the issue up with someone important or something like that." Jayd wasn't fluent in the art of what went on in politics or the like. She wasn't even sure how education worked where they lived. Jayd patted his paw with hers. "I'm sure that you'll think of something to get the teaching job started." she smiled fondly at him.
She never really thought about being a Captain as being a teacher but she could now see the connection. Many young thirteen year old creatures probably get the itch to join the navy and to be free from their parents law. Jayd looked at Caden when she thought of this. He still seemed to be having a good time. "It's okay that you bring it up here. I 'want' to know what's on your mind. Anytime is a good time to talk about things with me." Yes unlike Lad she wouldn't be out on a ship and in battles. 'Her' life would be a bit more laid back.
Jayd turned from looking at Caden and then spoke to Lad. "Do you think that it's possible for me to open a flower shop back home? You got me to thinking about what 'I' will do to help our finances out and I really want to work with plants." Yes flowers and things made Jayd happy. It was her passion and really the only thing that she's felt so passionate about, except for Lad of course and as they speak she's growing a very special seed within her womb.

"Ahem, yes well....thank you Jayd." he said in response to her first part, still a bit unsure of himself but feeling a lot better now that he'd discussed it with her. He felt reassured too by her next statement. Yes....of course he could always confide in her. Anytime and anyplace. He of course knew no thoughts about her inner anxieties or worries over his safety, and perhaps her fears would be realized one day.....but they wouldn't be today. Not here....and not now.
"A flower shop you say?" asked the stoat, glad the conversation was off of his career choice now. He just got the feeling that somehow Jayd disapproved of his choice to live a life at sea and of combat. To him it's what kept him fueled....kept him feeling alive. But to her it probably seemed dangerous. But still....even if he didn't have that desire to be her strong, powerful mate (which he did), it was in his blood. He was practically born on the sea and might die on it someday.
"Well....I think that would be a great idea!" he said, wanting to be supportive and glad his wife wanted a job as well. "We would need capital for a shop though. Once I start regularly working again, I'll send you the majority of my paychecks....and oh! Don't forget....a Captain of a warship is entitled to a rather large sum of prize money if he captures an enemy vessel. he receives a portion of what the vessel is worth. That will go a long way in helping us build perhaps a bigger house....your shop....our dreams." he said, smiling down warmly at her.
"Yes I don't have any problems with it. You seem quite good at it....and admittedly it's a hobby of mine too. Glad you're into something I like." he said, flashing a grin now.
