Jayd was cut off lovingly by her mate and informed that she should not run because she could fall and unintentionally bring harm to her precious cargo. She quickly agreed but still she kept walking at a brisk pace toward where Lad had gone for Caden. A worried expression etched her face causing her brow to crease and her cute nose to wrinkle ever so lightly.
Of course Jayd never reached the trio but instead Lad and Caden had met her on their way back. She had questions about this stranger that thought it was fine to approach Caden. Of course he likely didn't know better. But what if Caden was a lone lost kit? What would the older male stoat have done then? It caused Jayd to imagine his intentions.
Lad and Caden approached Jayd with an "As for you...." coming from Lad's lips. At first Jayd thought that he was talking to Caden but clearly what came next left her with no doubt that he was talking to her. Softly she chuckled. His concern amused her but she understood his worry. Jayd leaned into him as he brought his paw to her lithesome shoulders. "I'll try and be careful in the future. I didn't even think about it when I saw a stranger near Caden. I'm sorry Ladorak."
The family moved back toward their picnic area. It was then that Jayd just couldn't hold it in any longer. She abruptly turned to Ladorak. "Who was that? Do you know him Ladorak?" Jayd barely took a full breath, not really giving Lad time to respond before turning then to Caden. "And you.... You really need to stay closer to us. What if that beast was a kitnapper?" Jayd took a rather deep and unexpected breath as if she were about to hyperventilate. She placed the back of her paw on her forehead and gasped. "HEAVENS! I hate to think about what would have happened if he was!" Tightly she grabbed Lad's paw and squeezed. "Maybe we should turn him into the local authorities!" Naturally her motherly instincts were causing her to over react but Jayd just couldn't help it. After all she was a femme that was pregnant and hormonal.

Ladorak shook his head, and moved his wife around to face him. "No.....calm down Jayd. I think he was alright. He was....a naval beast. A confused naval beast but...well it's over now. Just calm down my dear." he said, trying to edge her down onto the blanket so that she could sit and rest. "Just rest Jayd.....it's OK....no need to get so worked up."
Caden didn't really think about this. A kitnapper? He...had been kitnapped before, but Helandria had managed to get him back. She had killed the kitnappers and had retrieved him....told him never to wander away again. This was different though. He had just been having fun right? Whoever that marten had been....well he was gone now.
"I think we should eat. Are you hungry Caden?" Ladorak asked the albino. Caden nodded. "And don't worry about wandering off...but BE careful Caden...you and Jayd are all I've got." the stoat said, making Caden consider this too. Well....Ladorak and Jayd was all he had too....right? "What's for lunch?" Ladorak asked Jayd, smiling over at her reassuringly. "It's alright now, we're OK. Caden's OK." he added, to allay her fears.

~Jayd Jasmyn
Jayd took a deep breath. If this was a just a glimpse of what parenting would be like with the new kit then Jayd knew that she would be in for some stress once the kit was born. But right now? Right now she just wanted to settle down. She wanted nothing more then for her heart to slow down and for all of them to be able to enjoy their time together. Time was precious to her. It passed so quickly. One day they would open their eyes and Caden would be grown. It was a little sad to think about and so Jayd simply starred into her husbands eyes, longing to savor every single second of their companionship.
The femme nodded and then finally let our her held breath. "Okay... Okay Ladorak. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get so stressed about it. It just scared me." Indeed his words did bring her comfort. It was noticeable to Lad when Jayd settled down onto the blanket so that she could begin to unpack. She peered up at the two males and smiled, hoping that they would both join her, trying to think of something to say so that the subject of kit-napping would be left in the past. "So what shall we do after this Ladorak?"

"Hmm?" Ladorak had suddenly found himself distracted....daydreaming it seemed. He was caught up in the beauty of the ocean....and how he was no longer upon it. "Oh.....what are we doing after this?" he asked, fixing her with a gaze from behind his spectacles. "I think we need to head into town and find you a suitable doctor. It's a shame I don't live here...but couldn't afford it even if I wanted to. I'd live in Gusted Manor....where my chum Montegu Sylver currently lives. But still, it'd make things easier....regardless though, even if we can't get you to a doctor in time, at least he could instruct me..tell me what it's like, and what I can expect, so that a month from now, we'll be ready."
He smiled thinly, but it was a sincere smile nonetheless. There was something....sad in his eyes though too, but it was hard to really determine what or why. Caden was eagerly digging into a sandwich, but Ladorak did not partake of the food. He helped his wife set up, but that was about it.
"Once I learn, I figure I'll be as prepared as I can be to help birth at home." He said, that sadness flicked away, as Ladorak had sensed he wasn't looking all that good and quickly changed his demeanor. Sitting back a bit, he watched Caden eat, then looked again at his wife. No...there was no point in bringing up right now. He'd just tell her later. He kept a calm, even expression on his face as he watched his family, using his forepaws as balance as he placed them behind him, leaning back on them a bit.

Jayd did indeed see the moments of sadness that was written on her mate's face. They were fleeting and unwelcome by their host but there none-the-less. There was little that the femme stoat-tess missed when it came to her husband. She was a very attentive female but being with Ladorak and the sickness that afflicted him from time to time also taught her to keep a concerned eye out for tell-tale signs of the ailments return. Jayd knew though that his whispering expressions of sadness wasn't from any sickness. There was something emotionally tormenting him. For now though Jayd decided that she wouldn't bring it up. Silently she simply turned to Caden and watched his healthy appetite with a motherly smile. She herself was merely picking at the food, her stomach feeling a bit off balanced today.
Her own sufferings were something that she learned to bypass. Coming from a large family it trained her to overlook personal hardships, even if it was physica, in order to care for others. Jayd had younger siblings that needed her parents attentions more than she did. The femme simply toughened up and pushed herself onward and this day was no different. Jayd took a deep breath and then laid on her side, propping her head up with her paw while her elbow was firmly planted in the ground.
Jayd's eyes intently watched Caden but soon were drawn to her husband as he informed her of his plans. They had discussed them earlier but there was no harm in confirming them. Jayd smiled broader and began to rub her aching belly. It was hard for such a small creature to be 'so' very pregnant. "That sounds lovely but I also don't want to take up to much of our day. I really want Caden to enjoy himself as well." Jayd groaned softly and then finally allowed her head to fall down upon her arm. "I think that I'm getting growing pains and... Heavens this kit can kick! Ladorak.. I don't want to alarm you but I think that we are going to have a very lively kit on our paws in a month." Jayd gasped and then chuckled. It felt like the kit was churning inside of her and merrily kicking her in the ribs.

Ladorak finally smiled, looking over at his wife now rather than down at Caden. "Alright....we can take Caden out on the town and do some shopping for him maybe....not too much mind you. Still waiting for work after all." He said, taking a sandwich at last and beginning to eat.
"You know in all honesty though." he said with his mouth full before he swallowed. "The livelier the better. I want it to be active......eager to learn. Might make for a good kit." he of course could not suspect what his wife was really brewing up, but it made him excited all the same. One more month! One more month and they'd know what gender it would be. Ladorak wasn't sure what sort of kit he wanted right now, just that the anticipation was killing him. He had practice with Caden but in all honesty, Caden was almost 13 now. Not a toddler at all.
"I have to say, this will be your first Christmas too right? You mentioned your family didn't celebrate it. Well.....I'll be looking forward to it. I've...always celebrated it alone. But.....we'll make it a Fugate family Christmas.....as this will be the first time I can fully say...Fugate family." he said, his eyes filling with joy now at the thought. Him, Caden, Jayd, and the new one. It WOULD be a family....a family he'd never had.
"Christmas!?" Caden asked, his pink eyes lighting up too. "I've only heard of that! I've never been able to celebrate it though! But I've heard it has a tree and presents!"
"That's right Caden...we'll go and pick out a nice big tree for our home.....and yes everyone gets presents. It's time for another holiday soon though....one where you wander through corn mazes for hours on end and carve pumpkins but....I'll keep that one a secret for now." the stoat answered the kit, beaming now as the thoughts about his growing family filled his head. Their first holiday season together....it was something he was surprised to be thinking about, but one that filled him with pride all the same.

Jayd smiled warmly up at her husband. The way that he was looking at her made her feel like she was wrapped up in a warm blanket on a blustery winter night. "We'll need to think about preparing for the kits arrival as well Ladorak. I haven't gotten anything yet. We have no crib or newborn clothing. Perhaps there's a thrift store in town... a place where we can get things cheaper." Jayd took a very small bite of a half of a sandwich. She wasn't feeling all that hungry today, just very tired.
So this was what it felt like. It was a wonderful and very fulfilling to feel the way everything was coming together for the Fugate family. They 'were' a really family. Plans were being made for future times that would be spent together. It made Jayd feel alive and it gave her a renewed amount of respect for her mate. Jayd could tell that he was getting excited about the kits arrival as well. "Well believe me when I tell you that he or she is going to be very active. I think that my insides are bruised from all of the kicking that's going on in there." The stoat-tess laughed but it really did hurt at times.
The femme did her best to sit up so that she could lend to Lad's enthusiasm when he mentioned spending the holidays together and what they would do. It seemed like Lad would be the one that would enjoy it the most. Jayd loved to see her mate happy. She recalled how he looked when she first saw him. His total demeanor has changed for the better. "Doesn't that sound fun Caden?" Jayd wanted to kiss her mate but the effort in this position would be to painful. Instead she just gave him a grin as she wore an extra sparkle in her eyes.

"Oh yes...cheap stores. Well......I suppose we could try to find some. My friend, Jal Montegu Sylver might be able to point me in the right direction. Not that he shops for that sort of thing, but because he knows Muggidrear quite well, and is a friend to the...well not the poor...well he IS but we're not poor just....you know have to watch our budget." he said, shaking his head as he knew he sounded awkward. They weren't poor...just lower middle class.
Caden nodded, finishing his meal as he almost knocked a glass of water over, but caught it in time. "Yeah! It does!" he exclaimed, nodding vigorously. "Are there any corn mazes around here?" the marten kit asked, hoping beyond hope that they'd get to experience one.
"Yes....in fact there are plenty. A lot of local farmers turn their corn fields into mazes this time of year before the harvest. I think.....maybe we could manage one today." the stoat responded, smiling over at Jayd just to see her reaction. "Well...I guess we'll head into town first though." pushing himself up to standing, the mustelid headed over to Jayd and reached out a paw. "Ready to go then?" he asked, offering to help her up. He also wondered what she thought about the maze idea, but wouldn't push it if she didn't feel up to staying out much today.

Jayd was liking what she was hearing about how their day would go. Really if they spent no money that would be fine by her. Her motto was that 'the best things in life are free'. The femme wasn't a big spender anyway. Normally she only bought the things that she absolutely needed, which would explain her scanty wardrobe.
The female slid her paw into Ladorak's larger one with a large smile as she began to stand. "Yes... a corn maze sounds really fun. I've never actually been in one but..." Ladorak was probably accustomed to doing such things but she really wasn't.
After standing Jayd took the opportunity to softly fall into her mate's arms. She hugged him deeply and buried her cheek into his strong chest, lovingly reassuring him, without words, that everything would work out for them. Eventually money would begin to flow in and their worries would be a thing of the past.

Ladorak wasn't so sure, even with his wife leaning into him. It wasn't just the money that was troubling him either. It was other things too. Things like what the future held in store for him when he did have to go back to work. Was taking his wife with him wise? Wouldn't she be safer on shore? But why bother worrying? While it seemed likely that he MIGHT get work soon, it wasn't certain. That was dependent on whether or not Welkin went to war with Rosferia. The two nations were traditionally enemies after all....and current events had left Welkin protesting the overthrow of Rosferia's King.
Caden finished eating and hopped up to standing beside Ladorak and Jayd. Ladorak looked down at his wife and tried to take solace in her embrace, and found he was about half able to do so, before finally giving in and just relaxing. Oh....everything will be fine. They'd have a kit soon.....big responsibility for the stoat at this rate.
"So...where would you like to go first?" the bespectacled stoat asked, looking behind his wife and towards town. Lot of options....shopping, the doctor, and of course the maze. Then sail back in the evening...and off to a late bedtime it seemed at this rate, as it would take them awhile to get back. Caden would probably sleep on the way, was Ladorak's prediction.
